i may have missed this ( first time poster. yah! ) but is everyone forgetting the overly under appreciated "the fountain"? that movie had some of the best cinematography over the past few years. the end had me in tears. pure beauty. by the way this should come to hd all thanks to the total crap, total hd via WB right?
Star Wars(all of them)
Lord of the Rings(all of them)
Matrix(especially the first, but a trilogy set would be nice)

I guess thats my favorites, but there is plenty more I could really enjoy watching in HD.

The Last of the Mohicans - Fox - not yet
Kill Bill - Weinstein??? - possible

among many others.

Indeed a good visual movie. Hopefully when I get it on HD I be able to understand it better. I was hoping for more of a Sci Fi movie though.

The movie I want in HD now is Pan's Labyrinth. I thought that movie was excellent.

Nobody has mentioned Baraka?
This is a movie I once owned on VHS, LaserDisc AND DVD. I'm not sure where my DVD has gotten off to, but if there was ever a movie deserving of HD treatment... originally shot in 70mm, this movie NEEDS to be an HD-DVD

I actually think that, if the format wars don't settle out before Baraka is released, it will guide my player purchase

Fingers crossed that Paramount's special edition DVD re-release of Hitchcock's To Catch a Thief in May will make it to HD DVD and Blu-ray.

I was only partially right - the movie was shot in 65mm Todd-AO format - apparently a
"high definition" film format - then transferred to 70mm to accommodate sound tracks. So I think it would be an IDEAL candidate for HD treatment.

as i sit here and watch my non-anamorphic WS version of this movie, i realize how much i want it in HD-DVD

The Hunt for Red October

with a Dolby TrueHD track please

Top Gun.

Great list so far.

As for me...and from Universal..

I would like to see:

"Far and Away" [the Ron Howard Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman movie]
This film was shot on Super 70mm---it should look glorious on video..but the current DVD is from the LaserDisc master in my opinion. It's my guilty pleasure.

I was also like to see Walter Hill's "Streets of Fire" on HD-DVD.

I second "Mallrats"

As for the other Kevin Smith movies, who owns them overseas? Dogma was released on DVD by Sony in the US, and the rest are released by Miramax, so we won't see US HDDVDs of them...

have you seen the turtles ninja trailer from PS3 site? it's WB right? so why it 's on Sony site...the trailer looks treamendous!

Most of mine have been mentioned but the top ones that aren't obvious would be:

The Mission (have it on LD - the soundtrack is beyond excellent)
Dead Calm (This one needs a big screen)
The Lost Boys
Heavy Metal (the original - not the lame remake)
Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid
Barry Lyndon (soundtrack & cinematography are typically Kubrick - excellent)
Blade Runner
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (soundtrack in lossless should be pretty good)

"No sugar? Damn. Y'all ain't never got two things that match. Either y'all got Kool-aid, no sugar. Peanut butter, no jelly. Ham, no burger. Daaamn"

Just a little bit OT. What's driving me crazy is Columbia House has yet to offer either HDDVDs or BDs. Come on now. Netflix has been renting for a year now. Blockbuster has followed suit. What's with these guys?
