Has anyone compared the rf-82 to the rf-83? I have bad upgraditis and I want this setup to last. I have an rsw-15 sub but my speakers are the synergy B-3 and s-3 They sound good for movies but leave a lot to be desired on music. I am not as particular as a lot on this board but I do want better sounding music.
On another issue, my sub has a bad driver I believe and was wondering how quick Klipsch does warranty repairs? The reason I think the driver is blown is when I listen to really bass heavy scenes the sub rattles pretty bad at high volume. This sub was the flagship for Klipsch until the rt subs came out. I've tightened all the screws until I'm afraid of stripping them and it hasn't gone away.

I have both RF-83 and a RF-82 for rears. Had the RF-83 first then bought the RF-82 month later. Did a side by side comparison between them. The RF-83 are much more refine sounding speaker, especially for music. They are over twice the price but the are worth it if you can aford them. There nothing wrong with the 82s the 83 just sound better. Not sure on the sub could have bad drive or maybe you are overdrivng it. You also could try the Kilpsch fourm too. Hope this helps.

I've sent it in to Klipsch. I took it in to BB and the Magnolia guy helped me set it up. When you play a frequency sweep going down ward from 200 hz at abou 35 hz it starts a nasty rattle that just gets worse till it cuts off @ 20hz He agreed with me that it sounded like a blown driver. This was a demo unit from Ultimate Electronics and still under warranty from Klipsch so I hope they get it back soon. I must say BB impressed me that they would take the trouble to send in this sub when I didn't buy it from them. I know a lot of people Bash the big box stores but great service will make me come back every time.

Had a tweeter go bad in one of my RF-25. Russ in patrs at Klipsch was very helpful. Received the new K-137 yesterday and went to install. To my surprise the bad one had K-130 stamped on it and had a flat backing to it. I called Russ back and told him. He said they had a bad run of tweeters in the 25s back in '04 and they went with a different vendor. So he is now sending me out another tweeter for the other speaker and new crossovers. Has anyone out there ever heard of this problem before? Sounds kind of crazy.

Never had that problem and it does sound crazy but that's a sweet upgrade for free!! How cool is that. Just one more reason why I love Klipsch. One hell of a company that stands behind one hell of a set of speakers!

No dought about it. Was easily convinced on Klipsch back in '85 in Germany. The master plan is to upgrade to heritage line evetually and go back in time! I also found cheap, new RC-35 upgrade over syn C-1 which should hit ground tuesday. Should be all set when its all done. Cant wait to hear blackhawk down on BD with everything new. COOL!

Hey guys. I bought a new pair of Klipsch RF-7s a couple months ago. Recently when I play some songs with pretty low bass one of the 4 woofers on my speakers makes some type of garbled sound. It only does it at certain levels like from 30-50hz. The lowest bass does not have that problem. Does anyone know what the problem is? The beasts of speakers are in a small room and have not been turned up really loud before so I doubt it can be blown. It sounds completely fine with a lot of songs, its just some level of the bass makes one woofer act weird. The woofer is in perfect condition and never been touched.

I'm upgrading my home theater after 10 years and would like some opinions to help me decide on a sub woofer.

Currently, my setup includes the following: Denon AVR-5600, Pioneer SD-582HD5 CRT RPTV, Klipsch Legend series speakers (2) KLF-30, (2) KLF-20, (1) C-7, Sunfire True sub Mark II and the usual other compliment of DVR AND DVD, etc.

Next month, this will all be replaced with a 7.1 setup: Denon AVR 5308 CI, Mitsubhishi WD-73833 DLP, and Klipsch reference series speakers: (2) RF-83 Fronts and RC-64 center, (2) RS-62 side surrounds, and (2) RF-83 for the back surrounds.

I'm trying to decide which sub woofer I should get. I can't decide between the Klipsch RT-12d or the Definitive Technology SuperCube Trinity Signature Subwoofer. Check out this review:

www.avrev.com/equip/definitive_trinity_sub/

I'm leaning toward the Trinity, but I am having trouble deciding.

Any input would be helpful, particularly from owners of the items mentioned.

Thanks!

I don't have an opinion on your subwoofer selection, but If I had your current HT, I would consider upgrading the AVR and trying it with your Legend HT before "upgrading," to the newer Reference speakers. My 2 cents.

Fwiw, between 30 to 50 Hz IS low for the RF-7 (it's rated down to 32 Hz on the spec page) and my guess is that you are having some room resonance (possibly the RF-7 is too close to the side walls) in the LF range where you are having problems.

I am a fan of Klipsch speakers but I wouldn't call this situation an upgrade as much as making a situation right....;-)

It's actually only one woofer that makes this strange garbled noise though. I've put my ear right up against all 4 of them and only one makes this sound. I know it's coming from the woofer. I just don't understand what is going on with it.

Well I finally made the jump and bought myself a pair of RF-82 and a RC-62 and I am very impressed with what these speakers can do. I know I have a while until they break in (any one know how long this usually takes?) but they are on a totally different level than my older B&W's. I am using a Onkyo 805 to drive them but does anyone think that getting a seperate amp like the Emotiva or Outlaw amp would do the speakers better justice? Does any one have these speakers bi-amped?

1) Welcome to the Klipsch community.

2) I don't think they need or benefit from a break-in period.

3) In most situations I wouldn't think so.

4) I don't, but wouldn't think this step necessary.

hello, i'm a newbie overall to the forums & this is my first post re: speakers for a home theatre setup. i'll be purchasing a 50-60" plasma shortly & i'm looking to start a home theatre system in my condo where i will be living for the next 18 months or so, after which my wife & i will hopefully be moving into a new house. i just picked up an onkyo sr-605 & i will be setting up the home theatre in a "living room" (~ 10'Wx14') that is part of an open living space including the dining area/kitchen. admittedly, i'm no audiophile & will be using this setup primarily for enjoying movies. to prove my point, my primary music source will be my ipod

i have been spending the better part of the last 3-4 days researching this site & various hi-fi websites, including sound&vision, hometheatrehifi, hometheatre, ultimateavmag, & others; i've read on those sites & on this one about wonderful brands/speakers such as PSB, aperion, Atlantic Tech, AV123, & radiient but at this point i want to go w/ one of the "mainstream" companies (& at this point my head is spinning!)

i had a couple of generic questions before looking for specific suggestions:

1) what are monitors? are they any different than L/R speakers?

2) i've read that a 3-way speaker is not necessarily better than a 2-way, true?

what i'd like to purchase at the moment is a pair of speakers that i can use alone for at least a couple of months before adding a subwoofer/center channel & eventually 2 surrounds; obviously i'd like a pair that will provide me w/ sufficient bass to carry me over to purchasing the subwoofer. i'm also aware that i should be trying to listen to the speakers which i'm definitely going to try to do before making my final decision.

my eventual plan is to add a nice ("timbre-matched" & expensive) pair as my front L/R speakers & rotate the rest of the speakers accordingly (to make my 5.1 setup a 7.1 setup)

some of the speakers i'm looking at currently (as this point i'd like to spend no more than $400-500 for the pair & i'm leaning towards either polks or jbls):

JBL
jbl L830
jbl stage
jbl stadium

Klipsch RB61
(i like the aesthetics on the Klipschs)

Infinity: (unfortunately there are no authorized Infinity dealers in MA)
infinity BETA 40
infinity P362
infinity P162

Polk:
Monitor 40
RTi6
RTi A3

would love to hear your thoughts/suggestions; also, do any of these companies have better "resale" value than others in case i want to start over in a couple of years; are "refurbished" units safe to purchase? (i.e. from jbl & infinity)

looking for some advice on speaker stands for my RB61's. Currently have them sitting on the floor which isn't good, just need to bring them up to a normal height when sitting in a chair/sofa.

Ran across this site: http://www.audioadvisor.com/products...&view_all=true with a bunch of options, but not sure how I should attach the speaker to the stand. It seems on some of them you have to drill into the bottom of the speaker.

Hi all,

BestBuy has the Synergy III 6.5" 2-way floor standing speakers on sale - $272/par. After doing some light research it seems these are just below the "reference" series. I have a Sony STD-875 that puts out 100 watts per channel and these speakers seem to match up spec-wise...does anyone have them? They seem kind of inexpensive which puts me on alert-mode but Klipsch has a rep for being solid & affordable, and these would fit nicely into my budget.

I would consider pairing them with the S-2 sats and C-2 center as well.

I have the synergy speakers B-3 for fronts with s-3 for surrounds I like them just fine although I am looking to upgrade to the rf-82 or 83 I think the bookshelf speakers just don't give me enough for music. I did buy these to tide me over until I decided on better speakers. I also have a monster sub paired with them. But the synergy line are impressive for the money.

sorry, I meant each - I must've picked up pair from the listing for the satellites. If they were that price for the pair I'd be online at the store now, credit card in hand

What is the highpass on my klipsch subwoofer all about? Do I need to route any of my 5.1 speakers through it? Never used it before, so I wasn't sure if it would benefit me or not.
Jay,

I believe the answer is no unless you have their computer speakers (in which I don't know anything about). What subwoofer do you have?
I pulled the trigger on a rf-52 and rc-52 set-up. While I like the rf-52's, the problem/question has more to do with the rc-52. Its listed as the center channel for the rf-52's. Not sure if it's all center channel speakers or just the rc-52, Voices just seem more pronounced in the center than the rf-52's, is this normal?
I have calibrated each channel and had to set the center a (-3db) below the mains.

I have switched the rc-52 to play as a right channel and one of the rf-52's as the center channel. Center and left imaging was better but the right channel again stood out.(mostly with voices)
While the idea of having a third rf-52 is out of the question, does anyone have any opinion on trying a single rb-51 as a center? Has anyone tried it?
MikeLo,

I am not sure I understand your predicament. On movies most of the dialog comes out of the center channel. I am sure you could use an RB-51 as a center but I feel the RC-52 would be better.

If you are saying most voices appear to be coming out of the center of the Center channel, you may want to check and see that the woofers are working.
Zen Traveler,

On movies most of the dialogue does come out of the center channel, and yes the woofers are working, there just seems to be an extra "bump" with the voices. On pans from left to right its noticable, even more so with music. This is the reason why I tried the rc-52 in the right channel position. That's why I thought of using one rb-51 as a center for the idea of not having the extra "bump".

Have the sub10 (synergy bottom firing). On the back it has a highpass speaker connection. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to hook up any of the speakers to it for any reason.

On page 2 of your manual it says "This passes the "HIGH LEVEL IN" signal out to your left and right speakers with frequencies below 100 Hz removed." If you have your mains connected to your AVR (and sub hooked up through the RCA/line level connections and LFE out) and are able to do bass management there (i.e., set crossover and Large/Small settings) that is how I would leave it.

Hello,

I am looking for a center channel speaker and I was wondering if the sc-1 or the rc-52 would be a better match for my klf-30. I've been using the bose center from the acoustimass 7 and its crap. Space is limited and the rc-52 are the biggest that i can go. Is there anything else in this price range would be a better choice. Thanks
post #1469 of 22401
tmta81,

Either one should be better than the one you are using now, but imo wouldn't do your KLF 30's justice. Those are tremendous sounding speakers and the RC-52 may be slightly better, but tonally may also hurt panning across your front Sound stage (but has to be better than the Bose). Btw, The KLF- C7 is the center channel that sonically matches the KLF -30's, but I gather is too big. I would call Klipsch CS and see what they say.

I'm new to the club and wanted to say hello.

Just picked up yesterday :

All Klipsch Reference Series

RF-82 Mains
RC-62 Center
RB-61 Surrounds (4 of them)
RW-10d Sub

I'm looking forward to giving them a good workout ... commencing NOW!

Hope the neighbors understand
