If you somehow figure out how to use a mirror, you'll see double racks....

RS62s are the better match. I would definately get him to come down on price if they are the same considering they are not made anymore.

Can you guys rank these speakers in terms of which provide the most power/best quality/etc?

VF-35,VF-36, KF-26

My thought is it goes VF-36, VF-35, and then KF-26. But I don't really know. Any thoughts?

I will soon have a pair of all 3 for my 7.1 home theater setup, and trying to figure how which pair goes where, keeping in mind that on my Denon AVR-890, when I use a 5.1 track (most things I watch, of course, are 5.1), the rear sound comes out of the sides and I cannot choose to have it come out the back.

My thought is fronts = VF-36, sides = VF-35, back = KF-26

Thanks!

Either will work fine as surrounds. The RS-62 is the "correct" match for styling, as the 62IIs match the styling of the other reference II speakers. It should really come to whether you like the pointed or round grille better. I bought a pair of 62IIs, but I like the 62s better. I prefer the pointed grille for some reason, so now I have a brand new pair of 62IIs with no home.

I did find out that the 62 grilles fit the 62II, so if one were unable to find 62s, they could get the IIs and order the 62 grilles from Klipsch if they like the pointed grille that much more. However, the 62II grilles do not fit the 62s.

As nezff said, you should be able to get the 62s at a pretty good discount.

Is there a reason you are going with that line?

It looks like you have it right after looking at the specs etc...

Looks like I will be joining the club on Wednesday...

Going with a pair of RF-82II's and a RC-64II for now. Hoping to upgrade to the 7II's down the road..

Still deciding on a sub to compliment them.

Hey guys, I want to start by saying how impressed I am with the amount of knowledge I've found in this thread. I've just recently found it but have already learned much more than I could've expected.

Now that I've buttered you up, I'm hoping you might give me a little advice...

I've started a build thread in the Dedicated Theater forum. My plan had been to use the RF-52II series as 7.1 for my ~17'x18' theater room. Because of design, etc. issues, I now only have ~16.5" for my front speakers. From what I've read, this may rule out the RF-52II because of a lack of rear port clearance.

Is this clearance (~2") an issue?

If not...
  • Would (3) RF-52II's and (4) RS-52II's be the appropriate set?
  • Is there a previous generation equivalent I could use at a better price?

If so, what do you guys think about these options as replacements...
  • F-30 HT System --> (2) F-30, (1) C-20, (2) S-20, (1) SW-450 on CL for $1500
  • (2) F-3's on CL for $425
  • (2) F-2's on CL for $300

As a note, the F-30/3 would have VERY little clearance from the front port to the acoustically transparent GOM. I don't know if this is a problem or not.

Sorry for the convoluted post. I just wanted to give as much info as I could.

Thanks for your help,
Cory

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I can't find any info on RB-82II. All I see is RF-82II but they're rear ported.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks,
Cory

Best Buy has the KF-28 8" tower speakers on sale flack friday for $225 each. This seems like a pretty good deal (50% off). I know they arn't top of the line but I was about to get RF-82II towers for $450 each.
These would be so much cheaper.

Would the sound quality be that big of a difference between the two to warrant twice the price?

Yes. To me the Synergy line is better than these KF's. I wasnt impressed at all when I listened to them at Best Buy. Also the lack of knowledge at Best Buy is sad. It did make for a little fun for me though...

Not sure about this years icon line but I have last years model of the Icon line and love them. I'm using 2 VF-35s for fronts and 2 for front wides. You can get the VF-35s for 169 from vanns.com

RB-81ii definitely looks like an option. They fit and they're easy to get.

Tony recommended on my build thread that I get KL-650 or a great used speaker like Cornwalls. As I've looked around, I've seen several items that look like viable options...

(2) Klipsch Chorus -$995 (edit: just found a pair @ $500 total)
(2) Klipsch Heresy II - $400
(2) Klipsch KG 4 - $400
(2) Klipsch KL-650-THX Ultra2 - $1799
(2) Klipsch Cornwall - $2200 (maybe out of my $ range...)

What do you guys think about these used options? Suggestions?

Again, these would be for fronts of a 7.1 HT system.

Thanks for your time and advice,
Cory

Spur Darren: So, considering you aren't impressed by the new KF line at Best buy, sounds like my thought of going VF-36 for the fronts, VF-35's for the sides, and KF-26's for the rears (The rears are the least used in my set up) is what you would suggest, right?

P.S. To the extent it matters, the KF-26's as the rear's would be replacing a pair of VS-14's.

Right now:
Fronts VF-36
Sides VF-35
Rear VS-14
Center VC-25

Proposed:
Fronts VF-36
Sides VF-35
Rear KF-26 (pair already purchased)
Center VC-25

VS-14's go into storage or maybe another room's set up.

Thanks.

Maybe its just me but the Icon line has never impressed me. I had a Synergy F-3 setup to start with which was the lower line and to me the Icons look like they arent even built as well. To me the Synergy's just sounded better. Now that I have RF-7II's i guess maybe I am spoiled. I remember when I demoed the F-3's Transfomers was the demo material. I was amazed at how great it sounded. The new Icon's just didnt have that effect on me.

Cory, sorry I'm short on time this evening, but quickly...Cornwall is my pick of the group, and they can be found fairly often at around $500 a pair. Heresy or a bit undersized as mains, but many are happy with them. The KL650 is a better performer than Heresy, but not Cornwall. My opinions. I'll revisit the conversation tomorrow when I have more time.

I have close to the same setup as you. Below is my suggestion and I'd sell the KF-26 or cancel if you can.

My suggestion:
Fronts VF-36
Sides/Surrounds VS-14
Rear VF-35
Center VC-25

My reason is because I've tried the setup's below

Fronts VF-35
Surrounds VS-14
Center VC-25
Sub SW-350 x2

Fronts VF-35
Surrounds VF-35
Front Heights VS-14
Center VC-25
Sub SW-350 x2
On this setup, the heights were nice, but the VF-35s weren't the best for surrounds. I'm guessing because their more directional or whatever you call it. Also, they didn't surround like surround speakers should.

I'm now running this:
Fronts VF-35
Front Wides VF-35
Surrounds VS-14
Center VC-25
Sub SW-350 x2

In all of the setups I've tried, the VS-14s work better for surrounds then the Towers. Also, this is my opinion and everyone is different. But I thought they served their purpose better as surrounds.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the Reference line blows the Icon away, and I already have plans to replace mine with RF 7s when I can afford them. Before my Klipsch Icon, I had Bose, when I had Bose, I thought they were the best. When I branched out and tried the Klipsch, I found out Bose is nothing close to the best speaker, in my opinion.

From what Ive read on the Klipsch forum, the cornwalls are very nice. If you want to try your hand at Bob crites Cornscalas, he basically sends you everything you need to build two. $1200-1500.

On a side note, I heard some terrible news about Bama's kicker. He tried to commit suicide but couldnt kick the chair out from under him.

if you can work with wood OR have a local cabinet shop that will do the work the Crites CornScalas are a hella good deal . Bob cuts the motorboards for Ya the rest is making a box , can be done in a few hours by a pro
& you are getting better built drivers/crossovers than Klipsch is putting in the stock Cornwalls
I re-did my Cornswalls (4 of them) into CornScala's best money I ever spent on audio gear bar none they are that Good ..

nezff, I just looked into the Cornscalas. Sounds like a great idea! His website is pretty bad though, so it's gonna take me some time to sort through all the info. Thanks for the lead. Oh, and, yeah, our kicker sucks. Bad.

Thanks for the info, Mike. This may my #1 option right now. The price is a bit high but if I don't buy the cabinets (I have a great woodworker in the family) I could be getting a helluva deal. Thanks again. Really encouraging stuff.

Would 3 Cornscalas make sense for L/C/R? If so, what would be good matches for the remainder of 7.1?

Thanks everyone.

Two Cornwalls for fronts just like they are can be tuned with the Reference center(RC-62) and surrounds(RS3-II) for Bluray. Spoiled with them new in 1979 and just now
replaced the cross over boards with Bob Crites complete networks....
good as new again with the same drivers etc. Old school huge boxs with 15" woofers are hard to beat with any of the tall towers for music and no sub.
I have two Klipsch subs for movies but usually just play the Corns for two channel music. Call Bob and talk to him, he will take the time to explain any questions you have. I emailed him one Sunday and he called me back a hour later, I ordered my new C/O boards after out phone call.

From everything I have heard, I'd say YES!
As for matching surrounds, the cheap way out is two pairs of used heresy II for $600 to $800 total. The expensive way could be Crites CS-1:
