I'm happy with mine but would love to hear the big brother setup. Is there a big difference from the 82's to the 7?
Yes in my opinion there is a pretty big difference.

Hey guys, just joined the Klipsch fam and am now on my first non HTIB setup. I got the following for a pretty good price:

2x RF-5's fronts
1x RC-35 center
2x R-5800-W in-wall rears

Few questions.

1. How are these pieces in the Klipsch line? Are they low end, mid, high on the klipsch chain?

2. Are the fronts and center matched?

3. Placement.. I will definitely be researching this more, but where should I be looking for proper spacing of the LCR setup?

4. Really doubt I will be going the in-wall route for the rears, thinking of just using my existing Onkyo HTIB speakers for the rear, no big deal right?

I have an opportunity to buy a pair for LaScala IIs for 1500. They are black finish. 3 Years old. Thoughts? Should I do it? Is that a good value? 3500 new each...

What center do I need to get to match.

that's a great deal on 3 year old La Scala's,
Center best match is a La Scala ..... But many have used a RC64II as well A Cornwall will work
I myself use a CS-1.5 from Bob Crites for my center
my speaks are the Modded CornScalas from Bob Crites

That's an AWESOME FIRE SALE price on LaScala II's, which don't come on the used market often. Much less for a steal like that.

I already have my three, but I'd buy those just out of principle! Let me know if you pass and they are in the southeast anywhere.

You can find single LS from time to time, and it is the best center option. Even if you buy another pair and store the extra it is still a bargain.

So I lied. They appear to be I not II. How much does that lessen the deal?

Still worthwhile.

Strange. A La Scala II wouldn't have come in black, but a La Scala (I) can't be 3 years old. They were made until 2005.

$1500 is steep for a 20 year old pair but a very good price for a 7 year old pair in great condition, so get the year and condition right before you make an offer.

the SN is 90006214 and 90007976

I cant tell what yea, I'm guessing 1990? (http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/61611.aspx)

I guess... Doesn't fit the expected pattern... Did the seller tell you they were 3 years old?

Find out what model crossover is in there. It's labeled on the side of the board and is viewable from the back of the speaker.

The La Scala and Klipschorn are peculiar in that some love the very recent ones and the very old ones (with type A and AA crossovers) but not the middle years (Type AL crossover).

Said his wife bought them three years ago. At the time I assumed that meant they were IIs and new. But I'll call and ask in a bit.

Do you suggest not wasting my time with type AL. its about 90 min drive, so I guess I need to just go listen.

Oh it's probably a subtle difference. If you have the space for these and have never heard them, it's definately worth it.

So here are the details....

built in 1990. great condition. two small knicks. havent been used in 2 years.

LaScala I in black. I'd be the third owner. It'll be a tight fit in my space, but I feel it's worth it. $1400. Right now it'll just be powered in a 5.1 setting on a yammy v371. I know its ultimate low end, but ill upgrade in time.

Any reason not to do it?
They will beat the crap out of anything new for that price, for sure.

Ideally, you would want to space these out by 18 to 21 feet and toe them in drastically to point directly at you, by as much as 45 degrees (mimicks Klipschorns). If not, they will still sound as great but may not image well. When they image, they -completely- disappear from the room and you can point at various voices and instruments. You might find them bass shy because they drop off at 53 Hz, but they would be sublime paired with a DIY horn-loaded sub such as the Table Tuba or Tuba HT.

No reason not to ! You can redo the Crossover's easliy anyway , that's about the only thing that ages on a Heritage Klipsch speaker .....

Thanks for your help everyone.... Going to pick them up Sunday.

Should be a nice improvement from my Synergy F-20!!!! What should be the next upgrade? Amp or new center? Should I move my f-20 to replace my rear RS-42ii? It'll be a mismatched mess for a little while, I know.
Just enjoy them for a bit! How big is the room? A Synergy to big Heritage is a major upgrade, let me tell you that much!
Rivlinm, I'm sorry I missed all the fun today. Congrats on the buy. I think you did on the good side of fair. The difference for you will be major. Crossovers are subtle. A few hundred bucks could change them if you decided. I would spend money on a center next. Almost any amp will do well for the interim. Just repeating Peter. A second opinion.

Sorry I'm speaking choppy. Thumb typing.

Definitely have a listen before you leave with them. I have a pair that are nearly 30 years old with the original crossover and they sound amazing still. That said, I'm sure its not the case for all of them.

As far as how to power them, I have mine being powered with an old mid range pioneer receiver and they sound fine with it. Don't get fooled with all the hype about needing more wattage to properly drive these speakers. They need approx 2 watts to reach reference levels on movies. And that 2 watts is for the pair.

As far as upgrading the other speakers, just hold off for a bit. I'd keep what I have and move some stuff around and see what you think. It all may work well together. If you don't like the sound after a couple weeks go looking for other heritage lines like heresy's or something bigger. I'm using 3 kpt-100's for center and surrounds. There's a member of the klipsch forum (rigma) that has about 60 of those left for sale. They came out of an imax theater that had been renovated and can be had very cheap.
