You are absolutely correct. Shamefully, I'm using a RC-42II (got a good deal on it though) as a center between La Scalas (12X30 room with listening position 7 feet away from each of the La Scalas). That being said, I am also seriously in the hunt for a 3rd LS to complete my front 3 and a LS can make a nice TV stand.
At "normal" (that being subjective because I don't have any measuring equipment) listening levels, the RC-42 works okay. Cranking it for movies, yeah it gets overpowered very easily and sounds very strained.
