no not saying that , I just saying if you cut your speakers off from using the signal below 80 (example my CornScala rolloff @ 30) you are not using the woofers in the speakers to their full potential .
a external amp just supplies all the needed power that the woof would need for using that added signal IF a AVR did not have the capacity to handle multiple channels .
the key is multiple channels consume power & capacitance that your AVR might not be able to supply .
some people have the idea that if you have a subwoofer then anything 80 & under should be passed to the subwoofer . If that were completely true then why buy speakers with large woofers
as for small vs large AVR brands are different on how they use that setting with room correction software . I mysef do not use room correction due to my room being good with acoustics & my speakers are set at large . Audyssey XT32 just couldn't get my room sounding right at all ( I musta run that a 100 times ) & I used all the tricks to get a good reading as well (tri-pod, noise isolation for the mic , plotting a grid , optimum mic placement ) I just got a lifeless sound that lacked dynamics , detail & separation (Audessy Never got the distances right as well ) . When I manually did the cross settings ,set distances & level match everything my system came quite alive . I go to alot of live music venues , I have my whole life , I was looking for that same sound & feeling , I found it by doing all the above manually, room correction never ever got near what I have now . This will not work for everyone as no one's room is the same as mine,no one's system is the same either . Speaker placement also makes up a large part of all of the above as well .
Don't get me wrong I have seen Audyssey do wonderful things in other peoples rooms , So I am not a Audyssey hater at all . Audyssey works Great in my bedroom , way better that what I could do manually as I did compare the differences after what I went thru in my HT room . I spent days in the bedroom testing just to make sure I wasn't losing it
I am Not advocated everyone turn off their room correction software
I am Not advocating everyone buy a power amp
