Maybe . . . Depends on your hearing. If you have exceptional hearing, then probably a big fat "yes" for titanium diaphragms.
I bought a pair of La Scallas with a blown tweeter. Wasn't a hard call for me to mak to buy the Crites CT125s . . . A couple of screws and a push on wire . . . A few like Beyma tweeters; bit Bob and Mike have engineered better than original drop in tweeters. The sound was amazing!
The, I picked up some more Heritage speakers with K77 tweets (for which there is NO replacement phenolic diaphragms that work as good as originals.
The K77 tweeters were original and good in the new Heritage speakers I got. But, here is what I noticed . . . The CT125s did not sound better to me . . . The sounded the same as my old K77s. I could not figure out why I was not getting better performance out of the CT125s, especially since they go up IiRC to 20Khz.
Then I figured it out . . . My hearing as a middle-aged guy who played with a lot of guns and music, well, my hearing does not go above about 14K . . . so, for me, I was not getting benefit from the best tweets out there. So, I got some original working K77s and dropped them in. I have ket the Cat125s for a project for one of my kids in their 20s with perfect hearing. Want them to have the best!
So, will you hear a difference upgrading diaphragms? Absolutely, if you have the hearing for it.
If I did, I would not hesitate to upgrade . . . My HT and music is for me . . . . My infrequent guests do not drive my long term speaker purchases.
I sure wish I had my youthful hearing back, but it is what it is and 14khz gets me about everything I want.
Bob & Michael Crites have been amazing to me and a host of others! There would be much lesser enthusiasm for vintage Klipsch without them . . . They have never sold me something I did not need, have answered even the dumbest of my questions when a noob, coached me through some of my own mistakes, and when selling me a product, always was the best.
Everyone else is measured by the Crites . . . Other great sellers out there? Sure. But Bob and family are an immeasurable gift to all of us who love Klipsch speakers of any ilk.Edited by Rhetor - 8/9/13 at 4:58pm
