horns as always in most cases are best in or near a corner & toed-in
all horns work better wide apart & then aimed directly @ the M L P or just cross field either slightly behind or in the front to the M L P
the style of horn would affect which of the three are best
toe in does two things reduces the reflection off the side walls then adds a controllable sweet spot (done with fine aiming) which the above three different aiming schemes you can fine tune a sweet spot from narrow to wide on your needs
I like my sweet spot tight, just wide enough for me & the wife's recliners I have elliptical horns soo the dispersion cone pattern is wide , forgiving & they don't have a huge dramatic drop off when I move outta the sweet spot . Now some horn styles that drop off is very noticeable ,on those horns the cross field toe-in works best .
Best advice : trail & error
don't have preset notions on where they should be placed before you start , fit the placement to how best they sound in the room NOT on how they might look the Best in the room
Keep that in mind & you will quickly figure out where they should go , no room is the same & no one but You can tell where they will sound the best
remember that after the lights go down during a movie how the speakers look will not matter at all compared to how they will sound
My Guess is the option #1
