My HK is the AVR-325 and the Denon I just picked up a few months ago is the bottom of their line, the AVR-588. I just grabbed it to go with my new LCD in the bedroom. I should have thought about it more before I bought it and spent a little more money, oh well. I am going to upgrade the theater system with some real power by either going with a nice pre/pro or a new AVR for a pre and then add an amp. I need something that can decode TrueHD and DTSHD.

Thanks in advance for your advice... I have been researching Klipsch setups for the past few weeks, reading both here and at the Klipsch forums, trying to learn all i can. Unfortunately i havent had the chance to audition any of the reference line, i work a best buy that is Non-Magnolia(i'll avoid price talk for courtesy) My issue stems from what specific models of speakers are available to me that i can choose, below are the reference models i can get. Bookshelves RB-61 and RB-51 Floorstanders RF-82 and RF-62 Center Channel RC-52 only (yeah i've heard all about the RC-62) Surrounds RS42 only Subwoofer RW12d and RW10d I've gone back and forth about 5.1 vs 7.1 or even 7.2, but regardless i want to buy everything at once seeing as i dont know how much longer i'll work at the store and wouldnt want to miss out on a kickass system. Seeing as the reference series is not too much more than the synergy series i left those off. This will be part of a home theater that will include a Samsung LED 750 series, an XBOX 360 and a PS3, possibly DirecTV HDDVR I think i'm pretty sure about choosing the Yamaha RX-1800BL, since i get that for a good deal too and it should be more than enough for whatever setup i end up with. So, after all that, what i'm wanting to find out is because of the limitations on choice in the center and surrounds, what would give me the best matching setup? Could i still do the RF-82's if i'm stuck with the RC-52? Bookshelves vs Surrounds in back? which sub works with different setups? so basically i'm looking for everyone's opinion on a few different speaker setups and basic pro's and con's for it. i Did see the Klipsch speaker packages but my choices didnt match up completely. Budget isnt really a concern, this should be kickass for a long time based on all your stories of older models holding up extremely well. The only big question mark besides the above, is i'm moving to a new place soon, so i dont know dimensions or back walls, but i want to go ahead and get the best speakers i can and roll with the punches if i have to do 5.1 for a while. Your answers will help me when i go listen in the next couple days.

well i would for sure get the 82's at least - i cant help you with the rest - since i am not 100% sure which is best - if you go on the Klipsch site - it will show you the complete package for the 82's - matching center and rears etc.

i am not using Klipsch other than the fronts - 82's and i love them - i already had bookshelf rears and a Center and sub - before i got the 82's - so i kept them -

i am sure someone else will post back with better advice - but i think BB only carries the 82's as there top model - which not sure how long they will even carry the RF line -

so i would get those at least -

i guess i should also mention its main purpose is movies/video games, thats why i'm leaning more towards the 7.1, although i will probably grab the yamaha bluetooth so if i'm on my macbook or iPhone, i can listen to iTunes through the system, i'm sure since i'm not a speaker afficionado i'll hardly notice any "imperfections" that might be there, or just switch it to 2-channel through the floorstanders

I wouldn't worry too much about a 7.1 system. 99% of the media available only offers 5.1 audio.

Definitely go with the RF-82 fronts, I love 'em! Don't skimp on the center speaker though. Yes, you won't get your employee discount, but I would recommend buying at least the 62 to match the 82 fronts.

Whether to use bookshelf or surrounds for the back speakers depends on where you're placing them physically. Ideally, they would be the same model as your side surrounds. IMO, they're rarely be used outside of a LotR marathon.

Fwiw, I have a 7.1 Home Theater and although most of the material I listen to is 5.1, my Denon AVR allows me to appreciate in Sublime 7.1 with considerable info coming from the back. This may not be an ideal situation for people using 2 sets of WDST speakers, but those of us that prefer a direct radiating speakers at those locations are getting the benefit of a separate Rear Soundstage.

hi - i think this is working - i uploaded some pics of my setup - some of the early stages with KG3's - and with the most recent 82's - i hope this link works -

Yo "Expresso"!

The system looks good, man! I know you are truly diggin' the 82's!
Congratulations!

damn the best buy that was supposed to have the Reference line doesnt have them any more, so i cant audition them. as much as i wanted to listen first, i'll take everyone's word for how nice these speakers are. I know i'll be blown away either way. now the debate i have is towers all the way around or not
If i were to do bookshelves, would the RB-81's or RB-61's match better with the RF-82's?

Both should work, although if you want to listen to music in more of a multiple channel configuration, (5.1 for example), and you can place the book shelves in an optimum position closer to ear level, the RB-81 would be "the cat's meow" with the RF-82.

hey - thanks - i wanted to add a link like you did to go to my pictures - but it ended up with the pics posted in my post - - anyway - thats my room that i have to deal with - its not ideal in anyway - as you can see - its open on one end going to the kitchen and the hall to the bedrooms etc. - i redid the autosetup again - but i raised the Center up a few dbs - i think 3 or 4 db over what the setup did - because i didnt feel it matched the 82s enough - now i have to watch some movies to see how it evens out - i still havnt yet to see good action movies to see how the sub is now - i think i raised that up a few dbs also - i watched state of the union which is stupid - but had action for sound effects - i watched this other stupid movie last night - forgot the name - but the main guy was Scott Baio ??? cant remember last time i seen anything with him in it - so you know it was a stupid movie - i got a few movies in today - i think they are blu ray - have to check them out tonight - but it sounds nice - i just have to even out the center and Sub -

and use different surround modes also - some give better Center voices than others - but for now to be honest - i have watched 2 movies with DTS MA audio - and yeah it was good - but i dont know if its that Great over the older audio formats - i havnt been totally convinced yet - i have to give it more time with more movies to judge better -

i been talking with Klipsch email about cleaning the 82's - turns out that they never got asked about that and didnt know for sure - its been a few days now back and forth and i was told today in my email that - not to use amor all - and they wont fade over time - which i was worried because one is near the window - but i pull the shade down now till the sun passes anyway -

and i was told that it is OK to use Pledge if i wanted -

so evey now and then - i may just spray a little on a cloth and wipe it down - if i see fingerprints etc. - so according to Klipsch Pledge is ok - but i wouldnt soak them down and use very little as needed -

Looks good expresso! Sounds like you are happy.

Those are strange looking speakers ensmarcum. They look like three subwoofers in a row.

yes i am happy - just have to fine tune a little - and yes the bass is kicking !! - much more than i expected - i am really surprised - they over power the sub in music - which is what i wanted - i wanted the fronts for music to handle deep bass on there own - and i got it - i am more than happy - for the money - - i paid just a few hundred more than i did for my KG3's - 15 years ago -

well i am trying to keep the place looking nice also -
it works better for me this way - or else i would have to switch the right speaker with the audio rack - that would keep both speakers on each side of the tv - which may work keeping them both straigth forward - but i am limited with space as you can see - and i have them angled so they dont stick out past the audio and tv stand - plus i would have some issues with the remote to control the units since i would be sitting away more and would make it harder to use the remote - it makes things easier this way - for the times i have to roll it out to check wires etc. - they are about 8 feet apart i would say - plus - who the hell feels like moving those 82's around now - i am finally done for the most part - and want to listen to it now -

Hello All... I'm a newbie here. I've been lurking around and reading some threads here and there trying to find information.

My husband and I have decided to make some upgrades to our home theater by purchasing a Pioneer plasma PDP-5020FD. We also decided that we needed a real surround system (we currently have a "boxed" set of Sony speakers that were a whole $300 for the set of 6 speakers, a receiver and a DVD player and haven't been used in a while because they were so bad).

We've pretty much decided on getting some Klipsch speakers after a demo at Ultimate Electronics. They were awesome! The speakers that we are looking at are the following:

Back: 2 RSX-4
Front: 2 RSX-5
Center: RCX-4
Woofer: RW-10d

These are not the "Super Greats," but they are still an investment. Especially when purchasing the Plasma TV and a receiver all at the same time.

What I'm wondering is what you all would recommend for an A/V Receiver that would work with the TV and the speakers. We've looked into the Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K, the Pioneer Elite VSX-91TXH (the speakers were demo'd using this one), or could get a demo model of the Pioneer Elite VSX-94TXH for the same price as the 91. We really don't NEED all the functions that the Elite models have, but not sure if there is a difference performance wise.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

P.S. Not sure if I'm adding this to the right place or not. Let me know. Thx

Considering the amount you've already spent, (I know, I just bought a 6020 myself), I think you should have a look at the Onkyo line. The 705 has quite a big bang for the buck and even if you need to step down to the 606, you'll find it's very capable.

I purchased the Epic CF-1 speakers as fronts back in the mid-90's. A few years ago I retired them to the rec-room and bought Paradigm Studio speakers for the surround system. About that time we also changed our furniture and decor.

Ever since then I have not enjoyed listening to rock music (especially 70's rock) in there. Something was missing. It sounds great when listening to jazz and orchestral music, but not with rock. I upgraded the Amp (5x120W to 5x200W) and upgraded the sub (MK V125 to JL F113). Still something missing for rock music. I thought maybe room acoustics.

Anyway, a couple weeks ago (by suggestion of Bryan Pape of GIK Acoustics) I brought the CF-1's back upstairs and A/B'd them with the Studio 60v3's. I got that enjoyment back! The drums, especially tom tom's, were much more punchy with the CF-1's. The high's seemed more airy.. like live music. Seeing as rock (and country) is my favorite music to listen to, I now have the CF-1's upstairs and put the 60v3's in the rec-room.

Now I want more. I like the Klipsch sound for rock. I'm wondering how the new Reference series speakers compare to the CF-1's for rock, especially in the punchy bass and airy treble?

My room is 21' wide x 17' with a cathedral ceiling and a large opening (10') to a 21' x 12' kitchen.

Any and all comments appreciated.

So will the BB magnolias be getting in the W series soon? Im interested in this newer speaker line, they look beautiful and i hope they sound better.
Nice setup you got there expresso. Ill post pics of mine later when I find time to.

Bye-the-way, does the cat sit on top of the AVR after a movie to keep her warm and toasty. I would hate to see that cat use it as a scratching post....OUCH!!!

srckkmack, I think you'll only find a relevant answer to your question by finding a local Klipsch dealer, going in and giving a listen for yourself.

Personally, I trialed the RF-82's at the local Magnolia store and compared to the speakers the sales guy was pushing at me, the Klipsch made Norah Jones sound like she was in the room with me!
They are the front speakers of the THX U2 setup! They are pretty big but not huge. The sound great too!
