If you are going with the RF-82, I would highly recommend that you mate it to the RC-62. The RC-52 will work, but from a timbre standpoint and dynamic impact, the RC-62 will be a better match.

I went and pulled the trigger. I tried to use a 12 percent off coupon but they wouldn't pricematch + coupon so I ended up negotiating 15 percent off.

I got the RF82s for $850, and the RB61s for $340. Not too bad I have to say, plus I get the reward points They get delivered on Wednesday.

Now to look for an RC62. Any idea what I could get for a used RC3?

Just thought I would chime in.... I have RF-35's, RC-53, RS-42, and a SW-12. The sub was the synergy series that was right before synergy series seemed to get downgraded and sold at Best Buy. Plus I walked out with it for $200 at the time.

I think the sub would be the next thing that I upgrade for my system. For that I will probably head the SVS way. But how do you know if/when it is time to change out the sub? I know a lot has to do with personal preference, but would a subwoofer ever wear down?

As with all speakers, subs can last a very long time with proper care. Typical causes of failure are overdriving it (can be minimized by careful level balancing with an SPL meter) and failure of the surround material (not as common these days---I once had a pair of Altec Lansing Stonehenge speakers that used a foam surround that literally disintegrated).

I have given away subs to friends as I have upgraded and some of these are approaching 10 years of use without signs of degraded performance.

As an aside, I am currently using SVS subs in my system and they mate very well with Klipsch.

Another place you all might want to look is Direct Buy. Depending on how much you are spending, and what you are getting, you can save a good amount of money through them. Got my klipsch, as a gift, from there.

My 2 cents

Alright I have a question about getting an amp. I have the RF-82, RC-62, RS-42 AND RB-51'S. I also have two klipsch 10" subs. So my question is, with my receiver, Yamaha 5890, I believe 140wpc, would it be worth it to get an external amp for the mains and center? Because the Klipsch are sensitive, is it going to make a huge difference in sound quality and clarity? I dont have any problems with the sound I get now, I get all the sound out of the speakers my WIFE can handle and then some, no hums, or pops, that I notice, is it worth an investment into an amp for more power? would that make a difference in sq? Also, does anyone know how to get the aragon pre/pro and amps? And this is a weird question but why do I see people that have a behringer feedback pro in their system? Is their feedback that needs to be destroyed in everyones system? what about an equalizer, would that make a difference in sq also? anyway, man these are alot of questions that I just have and was hoping someone with knowledge in the klipsch world would shed some light on them for me. Thanks alot. Rob
post #397 of 22403
Some people believe that an external amp provides extra headroom and often a higher damping factor to better control bass. I happen to be one of them. However, unless you have a really large room, or tend to play things at an unusually high volume, the receiver you have is quite capable of driving extremely efficient speakers like Klipsch.

According to the Yamaha site, your receiver has YPAO automatic optimization, so you already have an equalizer built in.

I'm going to buy a pair of RF-83s soon and also an RC-64.

Currently I have a pair of RF-5s and a RSW-12 connected to a Pioneer Elite VSX-84TXSi.

I plan on doing a 5.1 setup with the speakers mentioned above, and bi-amping channel 6 and 7 to the fronts to have enough power for the RF-83s (280 wpc bi-amp).

Do you think the RF-83 and RC-64 will match well with my RF-5's / RSW-12?

Thanks.

I like the idea of Bi-amping your channels 6 & 7 since you won't be using them. My question is how do you actually Bi-amp them so that you can send your power to your front main RF-83's? I assume your Pioneer Elite has a capability of 7x140 and your just re-routing that last two 140wpc to your front mains. How do you actually bi-amp? I have the RF-83's, RC-64, RS-62 and RT-12d and Yamaha RX-V2700. So if I could use that last 280watts on my front mains that would great since I am not running a 7.1, only the 5.1.

I just bought the F-1 speaker system yesterday, can't wait to get it all hooked up!!
Anyone have reccomendation on what subwoofer cable to use to hook up the 10" Klipsch subwoofer to my Denon 2307 receiver? I get a discount at Best Buy which is usually about 70" off of the Monster cables - should I just go with that?
I am not a big MC guy simply because they are WAY over priced. But at 70% off you will be ok!! Still over-priced at that however....!!!!

Darthswan I went to the directbuy site but it doesn't seem very easy to get info on without creating an acct. Can ya explain how it works?

If you can get a discount at Best Buy, maybe you look into it. I have heard nothing but good things from Blue Jeans Cable. See their ad at the top of the screen. Plus you help support the supporters of this site.

I can't wait to get my new RF82s and RB61s I will have to hold the fort with my RC3 until I can get some money together for the RC62
Does anyone know why the numbering scheme isn't consistent? The surrounds end in 2s, the Fronts end in 2 or 3, the rears end in 1...
Yeah tgenius, the number at the end is how many woofer there are in that size. so rf 82=2 8" woofers. rb61's= 1 6" woofer, and so on and so forth.

Aha.. now I see.. at least the numbering has meaning.

I just put my RC-3 up on ebay in case anyone is interested. It's in great condition!

I just got my new speakers and I am absolutely loving it. I bought a new Yamaha 6090 last month then my speakers just weren't very good. I must have went to 20 or so stores to listen to different brands. I was about to go with Klipsch Floor standers but then I found a Klipsch rsw-15 sub for a really good deal. With that kind of sub I was able to get a smaller set of surrounds The sound is out of this world.

Yamaha 6090
b-3's for the front
C-3 center
rsw-15 sub
surrounds are optimus lineaum I will buy some F-3's later and Move the B-3's to the rear

Sounds logical. The RF-52 = 2 - 5.25" drivers, the RB-51 = 1 - 5.25" driver, the RF-62 = 2 - 6.5" drivers, the RF-83 = 3 - 8" drivers and the RF-63 = 3 - 6.5" drivers. Also keep in mind that that even though a lot of people prefer to buy the RB-61 as back speakers, (myself included), that they are, with their 6.5" woofer driver, really designed for main speaker duty as a bookshelve speaker.

I'm really looking forward to the rear upgrade, going from KSB 2.1s to RB-61s should be a pretty nice upgrade I think.

Im trying to find a good price on an RC62 now..

Do you have a sub to match with that system yet?

I currently have a KSW12 which I don't see myself changing anytime soon. With the RC3 up on ebay, the pain of the RC62 upgrade will be a lil less.

I think the KSW12 is a pretty decent sub. It's not outstanding, but not bad either (And mind you its an older KSW12, bought back in 99.)

If you listen to music at low levels, the KSW-12 will certainly be adequate. You may have to reconsider, however, if you plan to play your system at a higher volume level, specially if you are planing on filling a listening area above 2500^3 or so. The KSW-12 is only rated at 105 watts RMS, and playing it at higher levels will take it's toll on both sound integrity and the longevity of the sub.

I think your progression in obtaining the components that you want will lend you to get them at a very leisurely pace, though. You can use your RF-82 mains for two channel, (music), listening without a real dire need for a larger sub. And you can use your RF-82 and RB-61, (with the RF-82 imaging a phantom center channel), for HT applications while you wait to find your RC-62 center. You don't have to hurry to get any particular component, and your patience will pay huge dividends in the end.

To start, remember to give your speakers some space from the walls, and in particular, keep the horns from radiating directly into the side walls. And give your mains about a good 30 degree tow in for great imaging, (at least in my experience they seem to be a better working directionality than having them point directly at you). Finally, as a former Klipsch owner, keep in mind that the newer compression drivers of the new Reference IV line are redesigned and will be significantly softer, or more laid back, than previous lines. They will still be forward and detailed, but not as forward as those in the previous lines.

Enjoy your new system!!!!

I may go sooner with the RC62 since Im selling the RC3 to offset the pain. With regards to spacing, these speakers are OVERKILL for the room I have them in right now(I don't have room to tilt them 30 degrees currently).. however I'm going to be moving from my condo into a house so I was future-proofing

New owner here. I just bought a set of Synergy's. Two F-2's, a C-2, and four S-1's. They're a million times better than the set of mismatched JBL's that they replaced.

You do have to have a membership with direct buy. You have to pay the membership fee and then you can log onto there website. If you are doing a complete and other stuff, Direct Buy is the way to go.

Where would you guys recommend I find an RC62 for the best price (outside of Direct Buy)?

Funny, I sold my RC3 on eBay for my RC62 about a month ago. It got bids immediately and it sold for over $260. DO NOT HESITATE to get the RC62. I put both the RC-3 and RC-62 together, for a side-by-side comparison. No comparison at all. The RC3 sounded like it had a paper bag over it and only one woofer playing compared to the RC62. The RC62 is absolutely amazing. So much more low-end, mid-bass and smooth highs - much less bright and annoying than the RC-3.

As far as where to buy the RC-62...There's AVB Direct (eBay) or Ultimate Electronics w/15% off (happened to catch a nice salesman.)

Good luck.

How is it going with your search for the RC-62? You may want to pay the Klipsch site forum a visit. You may be able to make a suitable pick there.

I was looking on the forums but don't know where to address the question for finding the RC62.

Turns out my KSW12 is broke, so I'm gonna get an RW-10d instead through BB.. not the cheapest but rolled into my financing I can't pass it up... 12d is too much more $$.

Gotcha... may want to give HSU and SVS a look as well. You will probably get other suggestions as well for a suitable sub. Either the VTF-2, (or better), or the PB-10NSD, (or better), would be a better choice IMO, and the cost is within the 10d's ball park. Remember that you can use your mains to phantom image a center while you wait on purchasing your RC-62.

Either the 2 channel or HT boards would be good to inquiry on the center....
