Bollywood on Blu-Ray?? - Page 30

Hi Srini

Thanks for the njmtv recommendation. Although I haven't received any movie yet, the initial interaction & support is pretty good. They are very responsive as well

In my best Jeff Spicoli stoner voice:

Hey dudes, what's with all the dancing!?? And like, where's the kissing 'n' stuff!?? There're all these, uh, hot Indian girls and no kissing, and that like really bums me out, okay?

I'm just sayin'... okay, well... catch ya later, dudes!

hey dudes..

my claim to fame: I own DvDs of each and every Aamir Khan movie ever released

'potential' claim to an even higher fame: going to India and meeting the man - Aamir Khan, in person!!..
Stumbled upon this- Lufthansa starting this contest Salaam Bollywood today..giving away round-trip tickets to India..
The contest went live just over 3hrs ago..here's the 'link':

I don't know if Salaam is out yet, but I've been going here ever since it was recommended in this thread. Good service.

When will Bollywood movies start coming out in dvd/blu-ray at the same time? Almost every time I loose my patience & watch it on DVD
post #885 of 907
I think the new ones are releasing at the same time, though not all of them. ZNMD just came out on bluray a while back and seems to have great pq.

I also got a copy of Band Baaja Baraat on my recent trip to India and it's has one of the best pq/aq's ive seen from bollywood.
Yeah I have Band Baaja Baraat in BD & PQ is great. Znmd was released on bd much later than DVD & by the time it was released in BD, it already came in TV ( Star plus & all) couple of times.

The latest one is Force - not yet in DVD/BD , but already broadcasted in Star Plus - in great SD quality & glamorous stereo audio

I've read that Force got pretty bad reviews overall though? I'm certainly going to get ZNMD on blu when i can, but really want at least Lagaan and Sholay to get released with good pq/aq in blu. It seems like we've been waiting since ages on them.

Yes, Force was not good. I am waiting for Desi Boyz now ( not sure when it will come in BD).
As mentioned in this thread, I subscribed to njmtv almost a year ago to rent Bollywood blu-rays, but I find I am almost exclusively renting DVDs only ( as BDs are coming months later than DVD). Only if I like one movie, I buy that on BD when it shows up

ZNMD Blu Ray is good looking and the film is good as well. Recommended purchase, and not just for Bollywood fans. The film is made for a world audience and problematic Bollywood formula treatment is lacking. There are songs but they are well integrated and flow with the plot.

I either don't get your inside joke or you can't spell the actor's name.
Salman Khan the farmhand? :-) The plot had the right speed for me. Don't know what a treacherous plot is. It was not too original but compared to the usual Bollywood fare it's very tolerable. The film is far from perfect, but quite decent nonetheless. What I missed most was a stand out superior song.
I'm looking forward to more films from Zoya Akhtar. She is talented, no doubt.

Couldn't agree more, a delightful respite from the usual Bollywood recipe. Unfortunately, it will never get its due recognition from the masala formula fed Bollywood enthusiasts.

BR authoring was excellent for a large screen presentation. No outstanding audio effects or LFE, but the one-liners still punched through!

Wishing for more of these gems.

Farhan Akhtar. The director of the film is his sister, Zoya Akhtar, the lyricist of the film is Javed Akhtar, his father (who is a legend in Hindi cinema). A very "filmi" family indeed. His step mother is the superb Shabana Azmi, a legend herself of independent Indian cinema. And of course he's the writer/director of the much loved film that brought a fresh breeze into Bollywood: Dil Chahta Hai!

ZNMD, as evidenced by mhafner's quoted post. Guzaarish seemed like another original gem until I saw the Spanish language "the sea inside" starring Javier Bardem. SLB directing from a plagiarized script...who'd have thought!

Guzaarish = Mar adentro + Prestige. It's Bansali's weakness that he does not use his own original material. His strength are the visuals/sounds for his films, the technique, the use of the tools of the craft where he sometimes reaches world class level, such as in the delightful song "Udi" from Guzaarish. Breathtaking how at the end he fuses the music/voice with the facial expressions of Hrithik. And Aishwaria blooms in this film, gets a dignity and seriousness she's usually lacking in other films.
