You feel bad... I still HAVE the Fisher Studio Standard system that my parents bought over 19 years ago. Complete with the cabinet, turn table, EQ, CD player, dual tape deck, tuner, etc... and two monsterous 3 way towers with 15" subs.

It still works, and did it's college day duties quite well. It was even used more recently for LFE duty until I finished building an active sub. The speakers are pretty bad off, but the rest still works reasonably well. The Fisher cabinet is holding our current hardware, until we get our new furniture from Ethan Allen. The rest has been sitting in the basement for ages, awaiting garage duty or for a garage sale.

This is a little off the true essence of the thread, but imagine a tower with one or two of these bad boys in it. I crack up every time a see a picture of the Funky Pups!

The drivers were hot-glued in, but there were decals to make it look like they had metal frames! (Even screws painted on them!) Also, the backs were pressboard and held in place with staples (not even a nod to airtightness), and the scrawny wires came out of holes in the back so they couldn't be changed.
The experience of listening to these was unforgettable, just like a root canal.

I know which ones your talking about.

It's almost like they spent more money on trying to design the chea[est looking thing possible.

It might have been more economical for them to just put regualr speakers in it.

Also, wasn't there a passive radiator in there somewhere?

I know these are ugly...but I found a used set of these at a theater supply house at a great price. I'm in the process of refurbing them.

They also had three of these also and I'm refurbing them as well:

The lot should make for an interesting home theater setup.

The electronics were just as bad. They were an all-in-one unit (including turntable) with deep grooves across the front to make it look like a stack of separate components. There were also "controls" and lights on the front that didn't actually do anything. (The "graphic equalizer" was really a tone control. Each half of the sliders were yoked together and moved as a unit!)

I may not have had this, but I KNOW someone out there had this awsome Soundesign system in their home.

I bet it rocked the house down. lol

Sweet! Love the dual tape decks (wonder if they were both functional?) If you squint carefully, it really looks like the "tweeters" are cones.

I think Iraq used them in their air defence campaign. At the very least they can be used to scare off an alien invasion.

He was referring to these.....

Well, I must admit this is a cool idea, well, in a way I mean. Think about it though, you can have real ugly speakers and NO ONE will realize it. You can rest your drink on it and really make it "stealth" like.

I may have to get them for my Garage......

This sounds just like a system I got for free when I was 12 or so. Plenty of controls and lights that served little or no purpose....2 sliders that would slide together as one unit.....no CD player, but included a tray for a crappy remote that LOOKED like a CD player. I think it was made by Yorx or something like that.

Bose was always doing weird things to sell speakers.... err.... they still do. However, are brilliant at marketing. I wonder if Bill Gates works for them on the side. Very few people are genius enough to sell things that well, just do not work all that well.

WOW...... I wonder if it will make his monitor breaks when he "cranks it up". Would that fall under the "Wife will not be so happy" catagory?

I dunno, as ugly as they sound, the vast majority of people really like the look of the boxe cubes... There are definitely much uglier speakers, as can be seen throughout this thread.
