Harmony 720 Official Thread. For all info and FAQs - Page 48

After you get the initial setup done it should ask you if everything looks right. There should be a selection that says something like "Yes but I want to add additional commands". Click on that and it will run through the initial setup questions again (I don't know why, and I find that very annoying), then it will take you to a screen where you can add a command to any of the devices used in that activity. Select your TV and send whatever command you need to send to change the aspect ratio.

Before you do this, you may want to look in your TV's manual. Most TVs have a setting where they can remember what aspect ratio should be used on each input. You might have this setting turned off. Turning it on may keep you from having to change your remote setup at all.

Much appreciated, will give both items a try when I get home this evening.

In the Logitech Harmony Remote Software 7, select button "Settings" for the activity you want to add the command. Then, select "Review the settings for this activity", then "Yes, but I want to add more control of options and devices for this activity", change nothing and click "Save". Click "Next" until asked "Please review the actions for your xxxx activity:". In the "Add action for", select the device you want to send a command at the start of the activity and then click "Add>" and follow the wizard.

My 720 has worked flawlessly since I purchased it last year. I began experiencing problems updating the remote yesterday, after I set up a new activity. Telephone support was excellent, transferring me to second level after the first tech exhausted his ability and resolving the issue immediately at the second level. I had read that was the case, but was impressed to find it's true. Way to go Logitech!

During my last device add my Harmony 720 started selecting the wrong input on my projector instead of HDMI for all related activities. Everything in the wizard showed it would select HDMI, but it always selected the wrong input (PC RGB). I tried everything to no avail.

I emailed tech support one night with a detailed, one paragraph description of the problem. The next morning an email from a tech instructed me that he corrected the problem. He asked me to login and update the remote. Sure enough, everything works perfectly now.

Great service.

Has anyone actually purchased a 720 for 129 at costco? Online it says they are 179 -- membership has nothing to do with it -- price online assumes you have a membership. If you don't then when you check-out they will add 5 percent to the cost of the ITEM.

Best price I am seeing now is 179 - and for that price I can just about get a "ONE" - does anyone have a better deal?

They just went in and corrected the problem. I was trying to add a new activity and accidentally indicated there was a new or different A/V receiver. They were able to delete this and everything worked fine.

I guess I lucked-out when I picked up mine. It was about a year and a half ago and I was at Wal Mart. They had the 720 clearance priced for $89. I should have gotten 2 at that price (hindsight is 20/20.)

Our Harmony 680 just went kaput (after unlimited number of drops on the hardwoord floor by the kiddos) and I am thinking about getting The One to replace the 720 in the media room, then using the 720 to replace the broken 680... only problem is that the wife hates the 720.

Back on topic- try your local Wal Mart.

Just picked up the last one for $99 at my local Costco.

Returning the 720 to Costco. I tried to like it but the clicking from the directional/volume/channel buttons drove me mad. I thought the software and programability were excellent, however. Maybe the Harmony ONE will have quieter buttons.

EDIT: It does (a little, anyways).

Light Dimmer Lutron MIR-ITFS no longer working with my harmony 720

I just replaced my DVD player and while updating my 720 I upgraded to the latest software and now my Light Dimmer no longer works. I had it set up where the light came on when pausing my sat, dvd or tuner card and going out when hitting "Play". The light now comes on and stays on when I select one of the above "Activities" and doesn't go out until I exit that activity. Pause or Play doesn't do anything. I've had my 720 since Dec. 06 and never had a problem programming it but I can't figure out how to get this to work right. It still sees the light dimmer as a device. I noticed the new software allows setting a "Sequence". I tried adding a play and pause sequence to the above activities but that didn't help. So if someone would be kind enough to let me know how to program the 720 for my light dimmer I would really appreciate it.

Thanks, Louis

You would have had to have a sequence programmed to do this before. It's likely that the sequence or links to the sequence were lost with the update. Can you confirm that the "light controller" device still controls your dimmer? If it does, create a sequence in each activity (which it sounds like you've done) and then customize the buttons for that activity, ensuring you set the new sequence to a function button. So, for example, in your "Watch DVD" activity, add a sequence called "PauseBright" that pauses the DVD and then brings the dimmer to full bright. Then, customize the buttons for the "Watch DVD" activity, select the Pause button and select "Sequence" as the device and select "PauseBright" from the list. That should do it. Remember, you'll need to do this for each activity.

Maybe Harmony should pay you! I mean, you respond within EXACTLY 45 minutes and solve the problem. Heck, my touting Harmony's tech support earlier is now completely erroneous due to the fact that the software "upgrades" killed my projector's input select.

Dropped my 720 on the hard floor last night. Everything still works except that the LCD will not go out. Light is always on. Can this be repaired?

Does anyone know if there are discreet codes for an Onkyo 605 to set the volume level? All my components now reside at the back of the room and I have to crane my neck to see where it's at and adjust from there.
I know my Onkyo 805 has a volume setting you can set for when you turn it on, but there is no IR command that I have found that will set it to a certain volume level, which I think is what you are asking about. If it's not on the 805 I highly doubt the 605 has it.

Call Logitech and ask if you can warranty replace it. Long shot, but that seems to be the only option. I seriously doubt that they are "repairable.

Have you placed it back on the cradle and reconnected to it via your PC?
Then uncheck/check the timeout values for how long the LCD screen stays active and save the config and upload back to the 720.

Worth a shot. Then if it fails call Logitech.

The 605 has a 'power on' volume and 'max volume' setting like the 805. I've read of some receivers haveing IR codes that aren't published or not part of the remote... probably used for internal testing and such. I may contact Onkyo and see what they say. Worth a shot.

hello

I've had this remote for 6 months without problems.
Haven't changed the activities in a few months and all worked great.

Yesterday i noticed as it was lying on the sofa the screen would light up periodically, although it was not moving at all. I started looking to check what was hapenning...
While it's on an activity it will go back to the activity selection screen (as if i pressed the activity button)... then sometimes after a few more minutes it goes back to the activity screen again.
After going back, sometimes the commands will work then... sometimes not. I have to pick a different activity, then repick the original one and it will work.

Also sometimes it will start restarting on its own... saying testing, etc, like if i had removed the battery.

Can this be hardware failure? anyway to reset the software to try to solve this or only the tech support may help?
Almost seems like the activity button is broken and keeps pressing itself generating all these problems.

thanks for any help
cheers
L.

Have you checked the batteries? They could be dead, or not be making very good contact.

It wouldn't hurt to update the remote using the software. No need to change any settings just update the remote again. Every now and then the internal memory can get a little screwy, updating the remote will fix that.
So after doing my research here (and elsewhere), and determining the H1 was too expensive for me, I went ahead and bought a 720 over Ebay. It arrived yesterday, new in package, and one of the things I was curious to find out is whether or not the labels under the transport buttons would wear off (I figured this problem was long solved, and any units that had this early problem would be long gone). Well, to my surprise, THERE ARE NO LABELS UNDER THE TRANSPORT BUTTONS!

Everything I had read described how the label problem was fixed, and that labels were no longer wearing. I never read anywhere that subsequently Logitech removed the labels. Did I miss something (other than the labels on my remote)?

You missed the news, although it probably wasn't has highlighted as the original problem. Logitech solved the issue of the labels wearing off the case but simply not putting them there anymore.

I don't miss the labels at all, but my lovely bride doesn't use the remote enough for her to have learned the international symbols for the transport functions.

Well, my battery died after about a year or so of use. I found a replacement on Amazon.com for $21.99 w/ free shipping. Any better deals out there anyone has found? This is nearly half the price BestBuy is charging w/shipping and they list them as back-ordered. Most other sites with good prices list it as out of stock.

As you have already found, a quick check of Google Shopping shows that anyone that appears to sell the battery for less also says they are "out of stock". So unless other folks chime in with their advanced shopping skills, it would appear you have the best price.

FWIW: A year seems pretty quick to have your battery die on you.
I got my Harmony 720 in June of 2006 and the battery appears to still be going strong. The 720 is kept on the coffee table until the indicator gets down to one bar and then it is put in the cradle to charge up overnight. This is probably done every five days or so and I have vague memories that it used to be more than a week.
I thought it seemed quick too. All of a sudden the charge just registered one bar and the message "low battery" started showing up. I cleaned contacts but no change.

It typically ends up on the charger every night. Is that bad for Li batteries?

I think it's recommended to only charge when the battery is low and just for the time needed to recharge...so I do as Ladd does and only charge the unit when down to 1 bar on the screen. I only charge it for a few hours.

So far ( knock on wood ) It's been working fine.
