Is anyone able to get constant output from their d-pad on the 720? Using the Nyko IR USB receiver, I am unable to get "turbo speed" on the XMB, but I am not noticing that holding the arrow down for ANY activity continues to output (it shows output for about one second or so and then the transmit indicator goes out), so I'm wondering if this a limitation of the 720 or if there is a setting to adjust this maybe...

Everything worked flawlessly from the get go, including the HDMI handshake with the Toshiba HD DVD: we didn't even have to custom set the buttons for any of the activities!

Like I stated previously, many Samsungs do not detect the HDMI input until the HDMI device is on, many other TVs do not do this. When my A2 was set up initially through component, no probs with the 720 out the gate. When I got my HDMI cable from monoprice, that's when the timing issue came up bc it tries to switch to HDMI before the handshake, you'll only get a "input not available" error, hence the 10-15 second wait stage.

Anyone else run into this problem where nothing you do will turn off the backlight (which obviously drains the battery rather quickly)? Oh, and yes, I have given it a series of "light" taps in various positions........... nada!! Thanks in advance for any help.

Update on original post: Well Logitech finally determined that my 720 is bad and they are sending me a replacement. Seems that one of the internal timers is defective. After some additional troubleshooting, I noticed that the "clock" on the 720 display was not advancing and according to Logitech is an indicator that one of the timing circuits has failed. I now await my new 720 so that things can get back to normal around here. Had to drag out my old remotes and that is not good!! Grrrrrr.

Interesting... mine loses time rapidly... sometimes several minutes a day, other times it will jump several hours overnight.

Guess I should call them.

Why not still use the remote until you get another one, and just look at a watch or clock for the time.

About to pull the trigger on the 720.. just have a few questions for the experts here in this great forum..

1. I mostly use my Comcast DVR.. does it program/map all the buttons by default, like when i schedule a recording i have to press the "A" button to confirm, or press the "C" button to go back to a list of programs i'm viewing in the On Demand menu.
and the "Live" button to return to live TV after i rewind a show.
or the Comcast remote control has its own Picture in Picture buttons also on the bottom as seen in the picture

Are these mapped automatically, or do i have to manually program all of these?

2. Same with my TV Remote, the additional buttons like aspect ratio, the couple of Picture in Picture buttons like "Twin" , "Swap" "Index" etc..
do these all have to be manually programmed or learned to the 720?

and lastly

3. My local Sears has it for $179, that seems to be the cheapest i have found anywhere local, not online.
seems like people were finding it locally cheaper a year ago.. not sure why that is

thanks!!

1. I'll leave others to comment in detail on the Comcast remote settings.

2. In some cases, everything is set up correctly by default. In other cases, it may be necessary to use the software to tweak and/or add buttons (not very difficult, but may require some "trial and error" experiences ... can be a bit tedious). I have never yet had to IR learn any functions to a Harmony (but it can be done).

3. Target is still selling the 720 for $200, so Sears is not that bad. Costco stores recently reduced their price to $120 (which includes a $50 instant rebate). Amazon.com pricing has been coming down gradually and now stands at about $150 once you add shipping (you may save on sales tax though).

That is exactly what I have been doing even though it quickly runs the battery down. No worries now - the replacement one just arrived via DHL from Logitech. Back to normal !!

I would give them a call and talk to tech support. I am really surprised, given the state of tech support (or lack of) these days, that my problem was so quickly addressed. They even returned phone calls when they said they would ... almost unheard of now days Now that I have my replacement 720, I am a Happy Camper once again. BZ to Logitech on this one.

i finally picked up the 720, and i'm loving it so far!

I also have it controlling my original xbox, but i had to learn the commands from the original XBOX add on remote, as the XBOX didn't have a built in IR port.

It works fine but when i select the XBOX activity it won't default to the learned IR commands for the XBOX, i then have to go into devices and select the XBOX.. now my learned commands work.

Is there any way to get it to default right to the learned commands for the XBOX?

thanks

EDIT:Think i figured it out....

Man this forum really slowed down from late last year.. i guess i just got into the 720 scene a little late..
Is this remote still considered one of the best out there? and its still very hard to find locally.
So far its been awesome, but i'm still kinda pissed I had to pay so much for it, considering people were getting it for under $100 last year!

I don't know how much you paid but I bought one for $170 in December '06 and another for $140 in June '07 (both were gifts). They are now $120 at Costco (in stores) but still sell for $170 at costco.com, and $200 at Target.

As far as being good or not, if the Harmony software is working for you, it really is the best there is IMO, and the 720 only differs from other Harmony models in its design and because of the rechargeable base it has. It is an excellent choice, I think, so if you are happy I would not worry so much if I were you about "could'a ... should'a ... would'a".

On the First Page, I had listings #1,3,4,5,6 filled in--and Listing #2 was left blank--That was where the remote automatically placed Favorite Channels when I originally programmed it weeks ago. After I updated tonight. position #2 is now blank, and Favorite Channels was moved to the end of all buttons on the third page all by itself.

How do I get it back in that 2nd position on the first page? I had figured that the first blank entry would be the Favorite Channels button because that was how it was orginally programmed.--but now it's just tacking it on the last page behind all other tasks--I want to be able to place it where I want it--

Also--should I upgrade the firmware and software if updatse are available?

Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Remote

I do apologize for the delay in getting back to you on this issue, and I do apologize for any inconvenience. I have spoken with the engineering department and they have brought to my attention that this is an issue on our end. At this time they do not have an ETA for the fix. The earliest a fix will be implemented might not be until the 26th of July, 2007. Again, I strongly apologize for the inconvenience.

i just ran into this issue myself.. anyone got any updates?

Just got a 720 from Costco and love it. However, there's one "feature" missing, or I can't find how to make it happen. - I have a cd player and a Slimp3 hooked to my AV receiver. The volume coming into the receiver varies greatly between the two, so when I listen to the Slimp3 I turn the volume up on the receiver and when I listen to a CD I have to turn the volume way down.

Can you have auto volume adjustment per device in an activity, so when i press Play CD the 720 will turn on the CD player, turn on the receiver and set volume to volume 5 and when i press Play Slimp3, it turns on the Slimp3, turns on the receiver and sets the volume to 9?

Been looking and I can't find a way to do this. I'd like to stop scaring the pets everytime I switch between the two. Thanks.

^^^
You can issue number of commands at the beginning, and the end for that matter, of any activity. Add "Volume Up" or "Volume down" over there. You need to go to manual adjustments of the activity.

Silly Question...

720 seems to be working fine so far but I am curious on how to set up the following:

I use the 720 to power up my VIP622 DVR and LCD TV..all is well.

The wife then she decides...Lets watch a movie. I have set up an activity to watch a DVD but it's from the power off condition of all my components. What do I do if the DVR and TV are on. What is the best way to say turn off the DVR leave the TV on..turn on the DVD player and then turn on the yammaha reciver.

Am I making any sense a all

Joe

it would probably be less complex to just go into the setup of your receiver and adjust the input levels for those two different inputs, thats what i've done, with my setup (dvd, aux jack, game system inputs) rather than trying to have the remote send extra commands and have a longer activity swap period

You don't need to do anything special: the remote remembers the last state of your components and is not going to turn TV off if it's needed for the next activity.

Joe, that is a silly question, but there is an easy answer! You just need to press the "activities" button to display the main menu again (the same as when all devices are off) then press the "Watch DVD" activity (or whatever you called it). The 720 should then automatically power off the DVR, power up the DVD player, adjust the inputs and you will be ready to go (as long as you set up the activity correctly in the first place).

Can ya tell I just got this thing...Very cool. I'll give it a try. The Wifey is getting pissy cause I keep turning things on and off while she's trying to watch the tube

You need to tell Logitech software wizard how to switch inputs. They allow 3 different ways. Carefully read each of them and select proper one. I remember somebody had the same issue as you on this forum.
Some TVs have discrete codes - directly select the right input - even if they are not present on a remote. Do more research on your model.

Not sure what I did but I got it working...woooohooooo
post #983 of 1732
I tried a quick search but there is too much stuff and I want to head back with this if it is bad!

I just purchased a Harmony 720 from Costco.

I believe it may have charging problems. I don't know what to expect but when placed in the cradle, nothing seems to happen. I don't see the battery icon changing (from its initial ONE BAR). Is the charger supposed to show a light? Beep?

Anything suppose to show signs of life vis a vis charging.

The remote itself appears to work and I even got it setup, I think. But no indication that charging is occurring.

Thanks in advance.
With my 720, when I place it on the cradle, a "slide show" takes place and then the remote "goes to sleep." No light on the screen, no sounds - just "sleeping" and charging.

Have you used it enough for the remote to go down to at minimum - two bars?

Do that, and then try charging it for more than an hour or so, and then see if it has gone back up to three bars - a full charge.

Have a little patience.
Nothing appears to happen when I place the remote into the cradle.

If I keep it level and the lcd is off, it stays OFF. No slide show starts. The cradle does NOT light up.

The adapter plug does not appear to warm up (most of my ac adapters - the wall wart part for other devices show signs of warmth or even)

......................

Well, on with Customer Support right now - appears that either the cradle or charger are NOT working. I'm not sure that I want to wait for them to ship a new whatever.....

(Costco did not have many of these left so I may be out of luck)
The battery bar on the remote should be blinking if its charging. It'll stay green when it's fully charged. Maybe try reseating the remote on the cradle?
On another note, is anybody having problems with the "favorite channel" button?

I know that the location of the button is a glitch in the software, as stated in this thread.

However, what about the numbers of the channel showing above the channel icon? That is, i see both the channel number for that station and the image i provided for the button at the same time. So the channel number is covering up the image. anybody?
Yes, mine too!

Not that way with my 880.

I'm glad it's not just my remote... but it still sucks. I hope logitech fixes both issues on the next update.
Searched through my JUNK drawer and found another wall wart and it barely fit the plug and suddenly my cradle's Logitech Logo lit up. And the remote started its slideshow and the battery icon was active.

Funny, looking at the wall wart, it was from my logitech mouse. So it is a bad wall wart.

Now to learn more about the remote altho, frankly, I don't like its shape/buttons compared with my Tivo S3's remote, but it definitely does more.

It could use a manual of some sort to explain stuff rather than having to try using the software.

Nothing really explains the "soft" buttons and what some other buttons do in a generic context. If I run an activity, most based around my TV-Tivo, what buttons are effective?

I will probably try reading this LONG thread......

edit:

Went back to Costco with just the wallwart which turned out to not be the best idea but I did not want to lose the programming. I had to purchase a second unit (getting tough as they are running low), Customer service then opened it, took out the wallwart, give it to me and then returned my purchase so I left with just a new AND WORKING wallwart.
