New Elite Models?

Does anyone have any details about the new elite recievers?
I was just going to ask the same thing. My local dealer is attending a Pioneer demonstration on Monday (CDN head office is just up the road) to listen to / see the new models which he stated that the new models will fall under the 80 series (example VSX-84...) and that the 74 series is done and will be discounted heavily over the next few weeks as he believes the new models will be announced sometime in June.

Don't know if this is common knowledge or not - just passing along some comments gleamed from my discussion with my dealer today.

I noticed one site advertising 3 new models but don't know if I can really trust the inform. It claims one new model with sell in the $700-800 range, 110w per channel and have HDMI switching and 1080p ability. If true would be very attractive.

well that pretty much sucks. I just bought a new 72 for full price in February..

Any guesses on what the 74TX might be priced at a month from now?

I was about to pull the trigger on a 1015, but if the 74 is discounted enough it might be worth considering.

Somebody had previously posted a link to website.. which had these as the new models. I have no idea if they are the real thing, or made up though.

The site-online retailer I mentioned above said the new models would be available in late June or early July. I believe the model numbers were different from those in the link. They were in the 80s. and there is 4 new models listed.
could you share/tell us what site that is
post #10 of 125
It was posted in a prior thread, it's somewhere in Romania or Poland or thereabouts. Try searching for "Elite" over the past month or two.

OT: M Code heard any more about Denon's Flagship offerings?
I wonder if these bad boys will do 7 channel PCM over HDMI so we will have pretty much all we need for hi res audio.

In the US it's called the 5805MK2, http://usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/3157.asp
And in Europe, and in other places it's now called the AVC-A1XVA

Present Elite AVRs (72 & 74) will do multi-channel PCM over HDMI now..
This is part of the HDMI 1.1 compliance specs.. The latest HDMI specs 1.2a adds SACD capability provided the DVD optical SACD player also is 1.2 compliant..
So an older HDMI DVD player with SACD capabiltiy, such as the Denon 3910 or 5910, could not send SACD DSD data over HDMI at all, even if the newer receiver allowed it?

Correcto..
SACD DVD player must be 1.2 HDMI compliant..
@ this juncture I am not aware of any players yet on the market ...
As SACD is sinking as a format as Sony shifts its emphasis to Blu Ray...

Found some links for the new Pioneer Elite Receivers, biggest changes looks like a new low price model, additional HDMI inputs and (maybe?) HDMI 1.2 compatibility.

vsx-84

vsx-82

vsx-81

vsx-80

Note that I am not recommending these merchants, just a place I found some info on the new Elite models.

Looking at the specs of the 84 it does not list SACD as a format for HDMI, it does for i-link though. Hopefully the specs listed are not correct and that it does have HDMI 1.2. It also does not list the new HD DD and DTS formats that were shown on a Pioneer site in another thread. If the 82/84 does not have HDMI 1.2 (which I think it will) or the new HD formats (which I think it will not) it really will not be that much of an upgrade over the 72/74. We should know next month if the new models are released at that time.

The 74 was on my short list, so this is great news, keep it coming!!!

I imagine a PS3 will likely support SACD via HDMI, perhaps other blue ray players will as well.

Of course what I'd really like is a prepro and a source capable of handling transmission and reception and decoding of ALL popular and semi-popular formats.

I guess I mean a source component that can read/play HD-DVD/Blue-Ray/SD-DVD/SACD/DVD-Audio/HDCD/CD/Dolby and all new Dolby/DTS and all New DTS, etc via HDMI. And a prepro or receiver capable of receiving and decoding all those formats via HDMI as well.

Apparently right now those receivers are having problems with low frequency effects over HDMI and the problem is with the receivers and not the HD-A1.

I was under the impression as well that no receivers could do 7 channel pcm over HDMI. This is not a limitation of the HDMI spec but of current pre/pros and receivers. I could be wrong.

Any AVR that is HDMI 1.1 compliant or higher can handle 8 channels of PCM..
Also this how an HDMI 1.1 compliant DVD player outputs Dolby Digital, DTS, DVD-audio output digitally to the AVR (1.1 compliant)..

You better look again, because they also have other updates/additions to them besides just that.
Which is also why the MSRP is now $1000 more.

Understood. I think I was confusing this with downsampling 8 channel PCM at above 96/24, which most receivers do.

googled vsx-2016 and a site in England had a page for it, also said details were tenative, and it was due in July.

Can't wait!!!
