I think this is the first must-must-gotta-have-it-now TV of the HD era for me. I think we're in for something really special this fall.

i've been thinking about the hole 3 hdmi and what is sony going to do with them all. it looks like they want one for blu-ray player, one for vavio pc with blu-ray and have 1:1 pixel mapping on one or more hdmi (DVI-D to HDMI adaptor will probably be needed unless they have hdmi out like the vaio blu-ray notebook has) and one extra for PS3.

also i am still going with xbr3 because the small squares all over the screen in the bezel does not look good

I was thinking about getting the 50 SXRD but my wife wanted a flat panel, we watch tons of SD and have a very bright room. The XBR3 looks like what I have been looking for as a replacement. I only have to decide to place my order now or wait for someone to see one in person!
Just as I finally settle on a Samsung 96 1080p.

Arg I really hope samsungs is the same panel as the XBR2/3 not the lower one. Arg, I think 3 was over kill. should have only 2 lines.
I understand completely the whole samsung 96 series had me almost dead on for a purchase but now after seeing the new sony will only be a little bit more i'm thinking of waiting. I also have a ? If you were to hook your ps3 through a receiver that was able to to accept hdmi would you lose any quality in sound or picture as opposed to directly hooking through the tv. I really want surround sound.
Should have no affect.

I agree MUGEN. I also do not like the look of the squares on the XBR2. One thing that concerns me about the XBR3 however is the Piano Black finish. I know that this was especially distracting on some of the previous Samsung models. I guess only time will tell if this will be a deciding factor.

Never know because the new Samsung 57 1080p that just came out is 10k.

XBR3 FTW!

Ok, but is this the only difference? Just a black piano bezel? Anyone have a comparison?

It also has a black table top base. Check the very first post,on page one of this thread, someone listed the differences. There is only a 300.00 difference(msrp), between the xbr2 and xbr3 line. From what I have seen it seems like you just paying a little extra for a nicer finish(IMO, some people may like the silver better).

I know this may be a little off topic so please forgive me...

If you play the xbox 360 on a 1080p capable set like the XBR3 will you lose any quality in picture as opposed to playing it on a native 720p set? I'm pretty sure the PS3 won't have any problems but the 360 I'm not so sure.

.....by the way I just love the look and design of the XBR3 but that price...

I can't wait to see how it looks.

i hate the floating glass design. i prefer the other design they had on the xbr1.

Nah, DRC 2.5 will just upscale it to 1080p. If anything, 360'll probably benefit from it.

To each his own - I have the Sony XBR950 - 50 inch Plasma with the FLOATING GLASS - it's quite a beautiful set. Many people that see it also comment favorably on the design.

I can't wait to put the 46" XBR3 along with a BLU-RAY into another room -- pleasantly surprised when I saw the floating glass on this LCD!!

The floating glass design is so pimp.

(And your point is.....Sometimes if you can't say anything nice, its better not to say anything at all)

Sony's product design has been SO lackluster and blah as of late. Totally lacking their attention to detail and good design.

Even the X series that we'd been seeing for the past few months has only been passable.

I'm SO happy to see this (XBR3) much cleaner, more refined design come out of them.

PS: Back when I was looking at the older floating glass design plasma's and LCDs (which I thought were classic... as, apparently did everyone else since all the other manufacturers bit off that design a generation or so later) ALL the reviews I read ALWAYS mentioned the floating glass design (and how awesome it was). I'd have to agree.
While it might be "pimp" the floating glass design must add a lot of weight to the set... I like the set nice and light for both mounting to the wall and or moving around on the stand.

Hrm... does it really add that much weight? I don't think it is actually made of glass?

I've seen the floating glass design (plasma's) mounted on walls (including their biggest one, at a local korean bbq place), so I don't think it's really an issue.

46" weights 90lbs with stand and about 78lbs with out

40" weights 80lbs with stand and about 68lbs with out

now to do some measuring to see if the 46" really is worth the extra $1,000

According to SonyStyle the 40-inch XBR2 weighs 80 pounds while the 40-inch V2500 weighs 55. It's hard to say how much of that difference is the glass, though.

For those who don't like the silver bezel on the XBR2 but aren't sure of the piano black either: Maybe try an XBR2 with the black color insert? It looks like it might be matte, but it's hard to tell based on the SonyStyle pix.

It also looks like the colors of the tabletop stands matches the bezel inserts; do you get a covering for the stands also?

the inserts look like just like the silver one but with different colors, the pictures are pretty small though.

i have no idea how they are going to work the color options for the stand. it looks like the stand will come with the tv or it may be extra.

i will have to give these questions to my dealer and see what i can get back.

Here's a question for those like me who are in the market for a 32-inch and are weighing the XBR2 against the XBR1.

The XBR1 has the old Wega Engine with DRC version 1. The XBR2 has the New Bravia Engine but no DRC at all, apparently. We still watch quite a bit of SD and my understanding is the DRC will help with that.

Plus, IMO the looks of the XBR1 are nicer with the black cloth-covered speaker vs. the silver plastic on the XBR2, which is styled like the larger V2500s.

Am I better off with the XBR1?

(Options 3 and 4 would be the Sharp LC-32D50U coming out this month, or waiting to see what Sharp's fall lineup looks like. But given how the 32-inchers are being rapidly relegated to commodity status I'm not optimistic.)

Would anyone venture to guess is the XBR3 or XBR2 40 inch have cablecard slots? I have looked everywhere and it is not mentioned. Thank you in advance.

I believe the Sammy reports 8mms. Do we know anything about the response time on the Sony?

Note that I was talking about the 32-inch XBR2, which does not.
