Hey Mugen,

Thanks for this info.

How did you get the Aug 14 ship date. I didn't see it at the XBR3 page.

Cheers.

click pre-order for ether model then click continue and you will see "ship on or about august 14,2006"
xbr2's still have the same date august 1st

On the official SonyStyle.com website the XBR2 says "Preorder Model - Available on or about Aug 01, 2006."

As of today Friday, July 28th:

Best Buy: only has the 46" XBR2 in the system at MSRP. they said usually when it's in the system it should be coming out within a month.

Circuit City: has no XBR2s in the system yet and said that they will not display them until they get rid of the current XBR1 models. He also said around late August to early September.

So.. i guess the quickest way to get a hold of this TV is to go direct with SonyStyle.com.

Just placed my order for the KDL-46XBR2 with tapeworkstexas.

Since my unit will ship when tapeworks receives its second delivery of XBR2s from Sony, others will likely report before me on the 1:1 pixel mapping over HDMI.

One request for those reporting on this before me:

Please indicate the video card and OS of your PC. I think these factors are not to be ignored.

Sony wants to avoid the embarrassment from the past when other stores (BB, CC) got their products before the Sony stores.

With these new products they are shipping them directly after they are clearing customs without going to the warehouse, which will make the whole process quicker.

SONY wants to make sure that if you order from them (Sony Style, SONY Stores) you'll get the TV first...at least that's what I've been told.

Once the XBR2/3's are out, does this mean no one will sell the XBR1's?
As far as I know, the XBR1 is discontinued.
For the 40" XBR1 the compairable set is the bottom 1080p set, internally its essentially the same thing as an XBR1 but has a 1080p panel instead.

The for the 32" there is a 768p XBR2.

Sony will be the first company that offers only 1080p in its lineup

Does anyone know if these sets support 24-bit color without dithering? And what about the XBR1s?

The reason I ask is that I am considering a 32-xbr1 at a good price, but I detect some weirdness with solid colors which I assume to be a dithering artifact. It's sort of like a screen door effect turned diagonally. TIA

i just pre-ordered a 46xbr3 at a local high end av store. no release or shipping date is known. also i'm #1 on the list

something weird the sales man said was they were going to get 50 of them, my guess is it's a mixture of 40" and 46" xbr2's and 3's. i will ask about this when i go there to pick up a dvi to hdmi adaptor next week.

Does anyone out there know if the XBR2 or XBR3 40" have the swivel feature. I found the XBR1 swivel feature very handy.

Sales of Bravia LCD TVs contributed to their Q1 profit according to this CNN article:
http://edition.cnn.com/2006/BUSINESS...earnings.reut/
To my eyes the XBR3 is drop dead gorgeous. If they can put enough of them on the shelf next month that should go a long way toward continuing the Q1 trend.

Yet another dc metro person... lots of us on avsforum... probably because we tend to be a a bit more advanced. Well, this is great -- go ahead and order one and I can round the beltway to nova. I'm heading to ocmd in early Aug, so don't delay Seriously, that's good news... and it's on sale? I'll have to stop by or give them a call. Thanks.

I really like the 40" XBR1 -- was just looking at one yesterday and thought the pq and the style of the set itself were great. The only thing that held me back is that I'm a 1080p holdout... though I was tempted. If the v2500's have that quality in 1080p, then that's what I've been waiting for... let alone an xbr2... both seem excellent choices at this pre-availability stage.
Which begs the question of when the XBR2 will appear on the sales floor for first hand evaluation.
this thread is about the XBR2/3, try the XBR1 thread. Thanks

Just a quick note to say thanks once again to everyone here. Not only did I order my 46XBR3 because of everyone's posts, I also bought my cables from monoprice.com as suggested. I could not be more impressed with an online vendor. Not only did they conifrm my order, but I received a personal email saying it would come and no more than 30 minutes later email confirmation of shipment arrived.

This is better than Newegg!

Thank you everyone for your help.

Now if I can only find suggestions for which in wall speakers to buy.

Bill

Don't push it there, buddy. There is a whole forum dedicated to speakers.

Speakers Forum

Post there and people will be more than glad to help, including myself.

Just got back from BB. The Plasma/LCD area was empty just waiting for new arrivals. A few weeks ago the sales guy said at the end of the month new models are coming

Absolutely, but I warn everyone I am not well versed in this arena. My review will be novice at best. I can only tell when 1 picture looks better than another. I was shocked at how much better the Samsung 1080p set looked than 720 sets at Best Buy. Since my wife is Nihonjin (aka Japanese) there was no chance I could get away with buying an "in stock" Samsung.

Anyone know if I can buy the Sony Warranty direct from Sony even if I buy the TV (46xbr2) at a local store? Even the best local warranty I found (Tweeter) was $450 for 5 years... the Sony Warranty, I read somewhere, was only $349 for 5 years. If yes, how long after TV purchase can I add on the warranty from Sony?

I was quoted $249 from a Sony Style representative for the 5 year service plan for the 46" XB3 (which I believe was a discount offer), but that was if I ordered the LCD TV direct from Sony. Just call Sony and find out for sure.
