Official Sony 40",46",52" XBR2, XBR3 Lcd'S NO PRICE TALK! - Page 25

Preorderd a 46" XBR3 yesterday at a sony store in Toronto. I also paid for, and managed to get first on the list for a Playstation 3.

Since the comparable X series in Europe has solid reviews (have read posts saying it was the best lcd), we can only surmise that our XBR2/3's will be as good, and with DRC 2.5, even better.

Why would you doubt the XBR2 would be anything less? The XBR1 still kills all sets even 1080p ones in every way except resolution. Add the resolution, and bam!

Don't know if it's part of the extra cost, but the finish trim is different...piano black vs. the silver finish on the XBR2.

When I see pictures of the 46 xbr3 i notice that the Sony name is actually illuminated is it my eyes or does it actually light up? I know on the the Qualia's the Sony name did illuminate. just wondering

How much did you pay for 46" XBR3, the price in Canada is crazy. Sony must believe the conversion rate between USD and CAD is still 1.3 as it was 1 year ago. So buying XBR3 is pretty much paying around 15% Canadian tax on top of 20% Sony tax.

I'd order one, but being overseas, I want to wait insure it's worth the hefty dime (I'll be probably take a credit card out in my son's name to pay for it...jk).

I wouldn't disagree with you as far as the XBR1s being the best LCDs on the market last year. However, from perusing the forum and review sites (like C-Net, Consumer Reports, etc), it seems to have been overtaken by the new Samsungs, JVC and Sharps as far as performance, while the allure of low-priced alternatives like Westinghouse and Syntax make it a completely different situation for Sony than last year.

Also, LCD technology is still young (black levels, NTSC gamut, refresh rates, contrast, etc), so sometimes being the best might not necessarily be a "great" thing. Kind of like the winner of an event in the special olympics...

And that's why I'm waiting with anticipation to find out how these sets perform. We've already heard reports of the X screens, now lets see how coupling them with the DRC 2.5 may create the best television set of the year.

even though sony is overpriced... is it certain that sony is the top lcd maker?

I guess that quick start guide pretty much confirms what we already suspected... no CableCard slot. Oh well... I guess I need to get a cable box or wait longer for the Tivo Series3.

They have the connections using a cable splitter to go to the display and one to the Cable/Satellite box. What would be the point of splitting the signal if you have a HD STB connected via HDMI? QAM?

I don't see any buttons on the remote for PIP. Any reason to think there is still a chance these sets will have some form of PIP/P&P/TwinView?

Sonystyle has stores in my state and thats over $300 in tax. Hopefully reputable online retailers will carry the 46 XBR3 in a few weeks. Keeping an eye on Crutchfield as I just returned a Westy 47inch 1080p which was crap with banding. Huge price difference but I pursume I;m getting the cream of the crop with the xbr3.

On another note... in researching the SonyStyle extended warranty for a 46XBR2... $319 for 5 years... the terms state that 21 or fewer "missing" pixels per inch of usable screen space are not covered... now, I assume they mean diagonal "inch" and not square inch... but that is still 966 pixels that must be bad before the Sony Extended Warranty will kick in... granted that most pixels will fail within the base warrnaty period if they are defects... but my understanding is that store warranties like BB or CC will cover the set for far fewer bad pixels... has anyone done any real research into how the Sony Ext waarranties compare to BB, CC, Tweeter for these LCD sets?

Not sure, but owners on the UK forums have been very happy with the XBR 2's black level performance.

Any more word on larger models? I'd hate to buy the 46" to find the 50+" right around the corner. (Corner meaning before the end of the year.)

When I hang this XBR2 on my wall, whats the best way to hide wires?

Drill holes in the wall or buy tubing and paint it the same color as my wall?

Ya see, That is not an XBR question, that is just a flat panel question. Theres nothing about the XBR that makes wiring it totally different than any other flat panel. I dont mean to be rude but its nice to keep the thread on topic. Thanks

No question the 1.3 exchange sucks but buying in the US you have to pay 14% tax plus 25% duty which is more.
