Why would you doubt the XBR2 would be anything less? The XBR1 still kills all sets even 1080p ones in every way except resolution. Add the resolution, and bam!
I wouldn't disagree with you as far as the XBR1s being the best LCDs on the market last year. However, from perusing the forum and review sites (like C-Net, Consumer Reports, etc), it seems to have been overtaken by the new Samsungs, JVC and Sharps as far as performance, while the allure of low-priced alternatives like Westinghouse and Syntax make it a completely different situation for Sony than last year.
Also, LCD technology is still young (black levels, NTSC gamut, refresh rates, contrast, etc), so sometimes being the best might not necessarily be a "great" thing. Kind of like the winner of an event in the special olympics...
And that's why I'm waiting with anticipation to find out how these sets perform. We've already heard reports of the X screens, now lets see how coupling them with the DRC 2.5 may create the best television set of the year.
