Thanks again. I made the room as dark as possible and I don't see any glow at all. I could not see any image using a flashlight. The only indication that it is on is the green power light and the glowing "Sony" emblem. Looks likes it's time to shop around for a new one and see if I can figure out how to dispose of this one.

There seems to be more going on with the set. If the backlight assembly or inverters failed, you should still be able to see a very, very dim image onscreen, because the video processing is still functioning. But seeing nothing at all, means either multiple failures (video proc, backlight, inverter(s), or some combination of the three which is really unlikely. It seems as though there's a power supply problem, since more than one condition is present. You may be able to get a supply from shopjimmy.com, if you're technically inclined and comfortable enough to swap it. Again, not sure of price, but it may be worth a shot.

Unfortunately, that would be beyond my abilities. I'm afraid that having someone else do it would end up costing more than the TV is worth. I really appreciate all the assistance you gave with this, but unfortunately, I need to bite the bullet and replace it. I suppose I can look at it as an upgrade since surely things have improved in the last 3 years.

Hey Skyyton,

Same thing happened to my 46" XBR2 yesterday. Just the green power light shows. Did you get it fixed or just replaced it. Just wondering if it is worth it to get it fixed.

No, I did not get it fixed. It costs $145 just to have someone look at it and I'm afraid that would be throwing good money after bad. I have not decided what to do with the set. I hate junking it if it's an inexpensive fix. Right now it's sitting on the floor in a spare bedroom. What are you going to do with yours?

Just happened last night so haven't called Sony or anyone else. Would hate to just throw it out.

I can get a new NX801 46" for about 1299 CAD so I am not inclined to spend too much to fix it.

I hate throwing it out too. It's sad that large screen TVs have become disposable items. They should last more than 3.5 years. Please let me know what you find out about yours.

The technician from the local repair service center came and said the panel needs to be replaced. Quote was $1800 plus taxes. Went back to Sony and they asked for the origianal receipts and the extended warranty receipts.

Emailed those to Sony last week and today they said the file has been sent to the warranty dept. Hopefully, they will provide some resolution. They said 10 days.

Thanks for the update! That's what I was afraid of. Mine is 3.5 years old so no chance of getting it fixed under warranty. Guess it's time to dispose of it.

Apparently they have something where they will help you as a goodwill gesture. Hopefully, a discount on a new TV. Mine was exactly 4 yrs old.


My warranty ran out a year ago.

So here is the update. I was given a 46HX701 for about for about 50% off the street price. Not sony style price. I guess something is better than nothing. I already bought 55NX810 so now have to sell the HX701.

Anyone know a fair price to sell a 52" XBR3? I'm finally upgrading and was curious. Sorry to bump an old thread but I really have no idea what to sell it for. It's in excellent shape with lower than average hours on it. Thanks for any comments.

My 46XR3 died last night. The picture went out while using a PS3 but the backlight still stayed on(then after power reset it didn't). The tv is almost 5 years old and has been running for 10-15 hours every day since I bought it without one problem. I hope I can fix it cheap and not buy a HX929.

More info on the TV problem.
1. The backlight stayed on when the picture went out and even turning the tv on and off gave the same result. After doing a power reset the backlight no longer turned on and I don't see any image(with a bright LED flashlight) or sound.
2. None of the LED's blink to show their is a problem.

I just ordered a 55HX929.

Hey there -- I have a XBR2 46". I just switched over my PC's input from VGA to HDMI and I'm noticing a lot of artifact pixels next to high contrast areas. For example a dark line against a grey background produces a bright white line that's noticeable around the line.

The only option that seems to help is the "noise reduction" setting for the TV when it is on High. But it really doesn't do that much.

Anyone else run into this issue or know of a possible solution? Thanks!
