This is the exact type of post that continuously fosters a riff between the DIYs and pros on this forum.
No offense, but your post comes across as if you're an expert on video distribution and specifically Cat5 video distribution. If you think you are, then I must say you couldn't be more wrong. Video (and audio) has been transmitted over twisted pair wires for years and years with great success. In fact, most of the home and pro AV hardware companies make Cat5 twisted pair video and audio distribution products. And they work very well. Its nothing more than a balanced connection.
Now the technology is filtering down to the home environment and with products like the Audio Control balanced drivers, audio authority distribution system, Netstreams component switch, and even Crestron PVID its available to homeowners with modest budgets.
Yes, its an extra black box at the receiving end (or at both ends in the case of the Audio Control which is the pioneer of the home based cat5 audio/video distribution systems), but to think the quality is less than RG6 (which many pros would argue is the exact WRONG cable for this type of video distribution) or its somehow not a viable solution is patently wrong.
Now if me (yes I'm a pro) pointing out the truth and calling posts misleading continues to foster the perceived (I don't believe it) DIY vs. CI WWIII, then I would have to consider the wisdom and feelings of the people spreading the misinformation. I consider it VERY important that inaccurate posts be corrected so that people aren't led down the incorrect path as they come here searching for information.
To the original poster, look at Audio Control
, Extron Twisted Pair Products
and the Crestron Quick Media
products for twisted pair video and audio distribution.
