One other problem is when I gave it a test run with a clip form Pearl Harbor my wife yelled down the stairs that I was shaking the house. All from adding two 8 inch drivers to my existing system. When I built my basement theater I was young and naive. Green Glue wasn't on the market so I have a large room without a fully executed sound containment strategy.
I often get yelled at by my wife when I play anything with deep bass. Before the navy sent me to Cambodia, I was running a sealed Maelstrom-X 18" subwoofer (24" cube enclosure) and an old Paradigm PDR 12 sub in my basement HT (loosely defined as an HT, really an open basement with a 5.2 setup and a 110" screen mounted on the wall). Unfortunately, the speakers are very close to the HVAC system, so sound gets into the ductwork and transmitted throughout the entire town home. Not awesome!
Perhaps when the Navy decides to return me to the US I will move back into my town house in Frederick, MD and I can arrange for you to give an assist visit to develop a removable front wall for the space. I need to do something beyond just hanging a screen on the wall; the light reflecting off the ceiling is distracting but wife will not let me paint it dark as the space is also used for my daughter’s play area. But as this is a temp home (when retire will not stay on the East coast) so everything has to be removable with minimal repair.
Here is my totally stupid question of the day: Does the front stage serve any purpose besides looks?
