Several in this thread have expressed there like of this machine despite the difficulty of getting the program guide to work.
LP 4 hour mode is excellent!!! the 6/8 hour mode appears to be better to.
The hard drive will store 500 titles or apx 45 hours xp 90 hours sp 180 lp 345 in 8 hour mode.
took a few minits to learn the navigating thru the menus as different for the e55 & e50 I had. But worth reading the manule carfully.
once you have the program guide & interface to direct tv hooked up when recording a timed event all you have to do is use the tv guide on the eh55 remote it brings up the guide find the program you want to record, once you highlight it press submenu then record this program, can even set to start a few minits early & to run late, this unit communicates with direct tv so you do not have to set a second timer!!!!!!!!! soooooo Sweeeeeet !!!!!!
It even puts the name of the movie in the title area so you dont have to, saves a lot of button pushing!!!!!!!! This Is A Brilliant feature!!!!!
When using the high speed copy mode from hd to dk the unit does not automaticlly insert chapters, you have to do this manually, play back the program click status button twice so you see where you are time wise, then click fast forward 3 times, wathc the time lapse on the status and every 5 minits hit the create chapter button, a 2 hour film takes about 5 to 8 minits to do this way, then you can high speed copy to disk and you have chapters.
In real time recording it still puts chapters in when finalizing just not in high speed copy.
In sp (2hr mode) takes apx 14 minits to copy 2 hour program & finalize disk Great!
I even recorded a program from a ram disk to HD in high speed mode, however that program would not record back to disk in high speed, had to do it in real time. then put it on -r disk.
I am very happy with this unit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! however auto chapters in high speed mode would have been nice!!! Later Bruce
