My A1 does not show an error. The display still shows the current position in the movie.

I guess that proves no TWO Devices can comply with the
protocol in the same way. Everyone gets different results.

Are you connected via HDMI or COMPONENT.

My error displays HDMI ERROR. So perhaps via component which I have never tried displays no error?

All connections (2) are HDMI. And, actually, I just tested mine. The "HDMI" in the display blinks whlie the input is not selected but the movie keeps playing. I swear I had been switching around before and come back to find that the movie had stopped but its been playing for over 10 minutes now and is still going. Maybe before I had just hit the end of the movie and not realized it.

Anyway, I'm sure this behaviour depends on what the intermediary device does when it switches away the connection. My setup appears to work how I would expect it to.

I'm about to get a HD-A1 player and I'm sure none of the firmware has been updated. However, my TV doesn't have HDMI on it but it does have DVI and is also HDCP compliant. Should I have any issues as far as getting an HDMI to DVI cable AND also updating to the latest Toshiba firmware v2.0? the only thing I heard so far is that I should turn on my tv before turning on the player for it to properly handshake.

Final question is Toshiba going to release any further firmware updates?

edit: almost forgot to say that I have a LT27HVX Olevia 27" widescreen TV.

I received an HDMI/DVI cable fro cablewholesale.com and it works like a charm. Cost is reasonable and delivery is fast. Never had an HDMI Error message. I had no problem updating FW with the official CD.

I am trying to determine if I need the new firmware, I looked and it seems to list 3 versions all in a row, does that mean it is already 2.0? I think it went something like this 1.0/1.2/2.0
post #3069 of 3260
Duke107,

What you have is version 1.0 (1.0/1.2/2.0). The first set of numbers are the important ones.

YOU SHOULD Upgrade - there are lots and lots of things
that have been fixed since Version 1 which is what you have -

ALSO a lot of NEW HD DVDs REQUIRE the version 2 software to even play.

I downloaded 2.0 from the internet last night. It took a while (30-40 minutes) which wasn't bad. After that, I popped in MI3 and Army of Darkness. Still not entirely pleased with AOD, some sceens look great, others look fuzzy. MI3 on the other hand looked better than ever. Sound also seems a little more full but distinct.

I may be imagining things, but it seems like it helped with picture and sound quality.

I just got my xa1 and I am trying to upgrade to 2.0. I have some pretty stupid questions so bear with me. I just can't seem to figure it out.

First, do you have to connect your toshiba to your tv thru DVI using a DVI/HDMI adaptor? Is that the reason I am getting nowhere with this?

If that is not the answer then I guess I just don't know how to navigate the tosh menu. I have read the manual and went to their website and used the search function on this forum but I am sure I have missed something.

I have my xa1 hooked up to my tv via hdmi currently and I have the xa1 hooked up to the internet. I read in the manual about how to setup the internet connection and I did not understand. Are these settings you are supposed to change in the xa1 or your computer's internet options.

Feeling pretty lost here. Somebody please show me the way.

Jedimastergrant,

In your XA1 Owner's manual, go to page 44 and 45 and do these settings in the player.

For the purpose of the Internet Update, using the V.Output key on the remote, you can select Component (with resolution 1080i) or even the Composite connection (with 480i). Not important, whichever is easy for you to use... not much to see on the screen anyway during the update.

Make sure the disk tray is empty during the Internet Update and that A/C power will remain untouched.

thanks for the fast reply, I am trying this now.

Just to clarify, can I see what I need to see on the toshiba led? so I do not need the dvi thing right?

I'm SO sorry, but I am looking at the manual now and I can't figure out what option on the remote will get me to this menu that the manual is talking about to set the dhcp, proxy, and ntp whaterver those things are. I think I must have pushed every button on the remote but nothin helpful happens. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong. Sorry, but I guess I need more detail than most people.
Press the Setup key on the remote.

Then select Ethernet and visit each section.
Still trying, but on p45 of the manual it states that to change the DHCP setting, the first step is to press the SETUP button. I don't have a SETUP button on my remote. Where is this found? I just don't know how to get started here. Many thanks to anyone who can help the village idiot here.

OK you can laugh now because I just found it. Thank you so much. I am going to see what damage I can do. Thanks again.

After confirming that I want to upgrade I get a message stating "Cannot Find Server".

The only possible problem I know of is I did not know if I needed to put in anything in the proxy setting. I just set it to on. I don't know what a proxy is or how to find out what mine is.

I feel like you when it comes to some of the computer aspects of this stuff. In my case, I just figured it wasn't worth hassling much with so I just ordered the 2.0 disc from Toshiba and waited. When I got the disc, I had read so many problems with the upgrade, I waited longer, hoping for 2.1 . Finally, I went ahead and loaded the Tosh 2.0 disc, and it updated very smoothly and so far without any glitches. King Kong now plays, and so forth.

Took me forever to slide the stupid hidden thingy down too.
Warren.
I fixed a few things, but now I get a message that states "connection with the server was terminated".

Is this still because of the proxy setting?

Be back in a few hours to see if anyone has replied. Maybe I should call Toshiba too.

Gotter dun,
thanks
Jedi - set proxy to "off". You don't have one, I'm sure.

Firmware 2.0 fixes 720p output with HDMI, right? Does it have any effect on 720p for those of us using component? 1080i looks significantly better over component to me with my HD-D1 with 2.0 but normally, like on my set top box, 720p is superior.

Did 2.0 affect component output of 720p in any way?
I'm trying to make a copy of the 2.0 firmware. I have sonic copying software and i want to know do i burn it as a data disk or what do i need to select for it?? Thanks
