Well even after the update 1.4 my Toshiba TV and the HD-A1 have stopped talking to eachother... this happened 1 week ago today and now the damn thing won't even accept HDMI, no handshake no nothing (and this was before the update, i though the update might help, last time i put in a new HDMI Cable and that worked... this is amazing!!!)
Did you press the V.Output button to switch back to the correct output for your TV?
Remember, it is very common
for the Toshiba to change its video settings after the firmware update. When that happens, all you get is a welcome screen on the inactive output. Switch the Toshiba back to the video output (hdmi or component) you are using by pressing the V. Output button.
Probably 95% of reported firmware update "problems" relate to this issue. A customer updates the firmware, no longer gets a picture, and then they think their Toshiba is hosed, when all they have to do is press the V.Output button to change the player back to the appropriate output-- or if that doesn't work, unplug the unit for a few minutes, plug it back in and let it boot, then hit V.Output again.
