Curios to see pics for anyone that may have their hands on the Focus 160. I've seen the show pics, etc, just interested in real world pics from people who may have them setup at home. Thanks!

I saw the Moccha C1s at my dealer today. I'm afraid to listen to them. Very, very afraid.

I know this is off-topic in a Dyn thread and as much as I love Dyns, if I were in the market for a small monitor in the price class of the Focus 160s, I'd be getting the new Evolution Acoustics MMMicroOnes for $2000.00:

I heard these for over an hour last weekend at the CA Audio Show with one of the best set of electronics and digital playback systems I've ever heard, and I gotta tell ya, they were frickin' incredible. Hands down, these are the best speakers for $2K I have ever heard, and by a long ways. They were flat to 35 Hz, also, BTW. Also had an absolutely stunning gloss finish...

And if anyone is interested, I can tell you what I'd use the $900 I'd saved for...

Accuton drivers, nice You like them more than the 3.4 or a different presentation? Could be nice to have for speaker rolling.

I've been hearing great things about these since they first showed at CES. Production got delayed and I think they won't be out until the Fall, but I'm still interested in hearing them. Jonathan says they could be used for nearfield, though certainly they are much taller than your typical 2-way.

Are dyn frequency range specs acquired through measurements in an anechoic chamber?

Dynero,
I wouldn't say that I liked them more than the 3.4s...it's hard to top the 3.4s for dynamics, as you know.

But they could be really fun for speaker rolling. They are incredibly transparent and musical, but with virtually no glare, etch or edge. They image like a hologram and you can listen to them near-field and still get incredible soundstage depth. I heard them with the amazing DarTZeel CTH-8550 integrated and the Playback Designs comnbination DAC/CD player, which is the best digital front end I've ever heard, hands down.

But I think they could be really magical with some nice tube gear!

BTW, Rob Robinson, the developer of Pure Music, was there serving up tunes...he played some vinyl rips at 192 Khz via Pure Vinyl, and some digital files at 384 KHz and some 2 X DSD sampled files....amazing!

One other item on the MMMicro One (and then I'll drop it so as not to derail this thread) is the personal concern that pops up after seeing feedback like this:

http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showth...ll=1#post49647

I wonder if this is the kind of subjective experience that will be different from user to user. I've run into listener fatigue/:treble harshness with Wilsons before, so I'm sensitive to the possibility of any speaker that creates such a reaction. More recently, I ran I to this with the Special 25 during extended listening even after loving it 8 or so years ago. I still love my Focus 110 and my C1, so it's interesting how that could happen for me within the same line (Wilsons seemed to have that effect on me across the board). I also wonder if the issue isn't something that developed over time as I've aged. Regardless though, it's an issue I have to be on the lookout for with every speaker. It doesn't mean that I'm assuming they'd be problematic for me based on one person's opinion, but it does raise the question.

Well, you've been hearing right. They got a write up from ToneAudio and Robert Harley at TAS as the best sound of show at CES. Having heard them first hand, I can see why. i talked to Jonathan and he said there were some driver development/production snags that put them behind about 3 mos, but those have been solved, they were expected to be ready to ship in the fall.

How does one rip vinyl at that resolution. I have the NAD PP-3i, but that is limited to 16/44 (CD resolution). I looked around a bit for AD convertors otherwise and didn't really find anything.

Jeff, while I completely agree with you about Wilsons (the Wilsons in the Music Lovers' room literally drove me out of the room in five minutes).

I think it could partially depend on the source content and the electronics.

The sources I heard were all very high-quality, hi-res files, and personally, I listen to a lot of analog, so I'm not sure it would be an issue or not.

My dealer provided me with some OCOS (one) cables to try out.
I like them so far. They make my Van den Hul cables sound muddy and warm with a smaller soundstage.

I'm always skeptical about manufacturers recommending a brand they are related to, but so far I can understand why dynaudio recommends these cables.

Pretty sure those are not Accuton drivers.

Sorry, Accuton lists Evolution as a client, thought they were used for this speaker

You get a $2000 pro audio A/D! The one Rob Robinson used was a Lynx Aurora 8. It will rip to 192KHz.

They are not Accuton drivers, they are Accuton-like. Apparently Jonathan had some driver development issues when trying to ramp to production, and had to source from another cone manufacturer. The higher level Evoluotin acoustics speakers use Accuton drivers, e.g the MMMicro Two and up. I heard the. MMMicroTwos at CAS in 2010 and at RMAF in 2010, and they were phenomenal. The only other speaker I would consider owning outside of Harbeths or Quads, or Zus for high efficiency speaker. The Zu Essence and Soul Superly are pretty dang sweet, too.

Easy answer. A new boutique power cord.

Awww I thought that price was too good to be true, I've only heard Accuton drivers on Lumenwhite speakers ( wc were fantastic by the way, amazingly effortless and neutral ) and I've always liked their sound and look.

Also a little prestige factor there, all the speakers I've seen this driver with cost an arm and a leg.

I'm sure it still sounds amazing though, So PC now you have to figure out if it's the speaker or the source

Well at least you know when you buy a Dynaudio speaker, you get a Dynaudio driver. The Accuton drivers are world class and the drivers alone would cost as much as that speaker. That would be like putting the C-1 drivers in a pair of Focus 140's, the drivers cost as much as the speaker retails for.

Gotta admit that finish looks much nicer than the previous S25 finishes I've seen!

Hey Robert. They arrive tomorrow.

Monday night I took my stands apart to perpare for the new speakers. No fun at all since they were filled with sand and I attempted the reconfiguration without removing the sand. My S1.4s were bolted to the stands. I had to unbolt them and add the stand top plate so the S25s can sit on top.

Got a bit of sand on one of the S1.4 tweeters too. Those tweeters are a bit sticky. I'm hoping that a little play time will vibrate the sand off.

I'm debating keeping the S1.4s. Love them still. Lot of good times with them, hard to let them go.

I'll post some pics of the S25s once I've got 'em all setup.

Have you ever had the experience where you go to the doctor after suffering with something for awhile and wouldn't you know it, when you get there your symptoms suddenly abate?

Or you take your car in and when the mechanic is looking at it, it refuses to make the funny noise?

That's kind of what I've been experiencing with my S1.4s. Since I pulled the trigger on the Special 25s, all of a sudden my S1.4s sound bloody perfect! They always had great performance, but it's like a new level. It's just my neurotic personality playing tricks on me. I'm the type of person that second guesses the hell out of every big decision I make. Drives my wife nuts.

Your S1.4s are perfect. Just send the S25s to me and it will all be OK.

It was when I had the c1 that I was truly impressed with Dynaudio driver technology. I remember shaking my head in disbelieve at what that tiny driver could do. The bass and dynamics that would come out of the c1 while keeping it's clean sounding composure were incredible.

I have absolutely no doubt that if Dynaudio were still an open OEM even more of the world's best speakers would be using their drivers.

Btw Mick what drivers do the Sapphire use? Are they based on the Temptation/Master or Confidence?
