Dynaudio Owner's Thread - Page 568

I am planning to get a pair Focus 160 speakers which has IEC Power handling > 200 W (as indicated in the technical specification). As for the amp, which following amps with different output watts should I get? Creek Evolution 2 (output 110 watts into 4 ohm) or Creek Evolution 5350 (output >200 watts into 4 ohm). Is Creek Evolution 2 output 110 watts sufficient enough to drive the Focus 160? What am I missing if I use the Creek Evolution 2? Do I really need Creek Evolution 5350 to fully drive (bring out its full potential) the Focus 160? For now, I am leaning toward Creek Evolution 2 but I am concern that it's output watts is not enough to power the Focus160.

Edit: I might place the Focus 160 and amp in my bedroom which is 4x4x3 meter. I might also place them in my living room which is 4x7x3. Hope this info is useful.

Big difference between the two rooms (size wise and acoustic qualities).

How loud do you listen?
Is there a subwoofer involved?

About 70 to 100 db. No subwoofer. Both flooring carpetted.

Big room, big volumes...no sub, well-damped; you'll likely want/need the extra juice.

Thanks for the replies. I have loaned a Rega Brior R from a local dealer and tested it in my living room (4x7x3 meters) with a pair of 87dB sensitivity speakers. The juice is enough to fill the whole room. I only need to crank up the volume knob to 10 o’clock (8 o’clock is volume 0). For now, I’ll stick with Creek Evo 2. I’ll probably upgrade to a tubes amp in the future.

Edit: Rega Brior R output 73 watts into 4 ohm and Creek Evo 2 output 110 watts into 4 ohm.

Same homogenized, dull uppers and mids, colored Dyn sound? LOL

Racetripper, It had a box 1/box 2 designation, so it's probably a big speaker, I'm guessing the updated Evidence platinum that was on static display at the last hi-fi show?

I've compared the Dynaudio X32 to other high end speakers, and I think the Dynaudio sound great. I'm sure the higher end Dynaudio would sound fantastic.

Perhaps it was just tongue-in-cheek on his part.

He's just not willing to pay for the high end Dynaudio (or any high end brand), which is understandable. Diminishing returns is always an issue with anything in life.

I believe that if he listened to a pair of Dynaudio speakers in his own house, especially paired with some high quality subwoofers, he would enjoy the sound very much.

Did anyone ever get the scoop on this?

so what have you been able to compare them too? You have some great speakers there, some that are pretty expensive, how do you feel the X32s compare to the others you have?

One thing to consider, the other Dynaudio speakers use a larger voice coil resulting in better bass. Ive been playing with a buddys Focus 200C center channel, I told my wife Im getting lots of ideas.

I think the midrange and treble sound great. I prefer always using multiple subs, so I don't compare the bass in the speakers.

When I get the Focal 826v in a week or 2, I will compare.

I don't think it's fair to compare the X32 to the Phil3 or the other speakers I own because they cost a lot more. The Phil3's base price is $3500 + piano gloss mahogany is another $1600 + grilles is another $150, so total is $5250.

The KEF 201/2 are $6K/pr. Orion are $15K/pr, etc.

All I can say is, the X32 sound great.

Dynaudio speakers sound great.

I am considering a pair of C2s just as seriously as I am considering winning the lottery.

A quick google search shows IG1 3BA is in Ilford, UK (London). I wonder if that price is really in £? It would make more sense.

I agree that may not be in USD but I would think the seller should state that. Sure are pretty though. C2's just don't work out in my room though (tried them).

My Contours will have to do for a long time to come (I don't see that as a problem).

It'll be a tempting item, for someone to take a flyer on; but that's a real high-wire transaction...that I personally wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. C1s will just have to do.

I would never do a foreign transaction on Audiogon, period. The only foreign purchases I do on eBay are for vinyl or small parts (like WBT connectors I just ordered from the UK). That is, stuff I can afford to take a hit on.

I did recently (last few months) sell a Naim power supply on Audiogon and that went very smoothly.

Not really a sneak preview, but indeed the new Evidence Platinum.

Mick, speaking of the Platinum, what are the odds we'll see it at RMAF? Or will it be the C4 and the C1?
