I'd like to claim it was all Evidence but credit must also go to the D'Agostino components which managed to put a pair of Pass Labs Monoblocks and Audio Research 5 preamp to shame. In an AB comparison it wasn't even close, maybe poor synergy between Pass and AR?

I don't know if the D'Agostino components are that good or if it's just a special synergy with the Evidence but it was simply phenomenal, once thing that leapt to mind was sheer presence, the music was just there, hard to explain, you have to listen to it.

BTW in all fairness to Pass Labs please note that the amps playing aren't their top of the line and I think are actually their entry level line.

Update on my S25s, they sound better and better each day. The W4S uDac really really added base but when i got the Signal cable Ultra speaker cables they destroyed the much much more expensive Transparent MusicWave plus speaker cables. I couldnt believe how much better they sounded after burnin. I returned the transparent. Actually considering a REL 528 SE, but want to demo first.

BEAUTIFUL!!! Congratulations! It's a beautiful thing to see all that Naim stacked, that's a nice looking turntable as well.

Thanks. I would love to get a Naim Fraim setup for the stack.

Here's a better shot of the turntable. It has the upgraded Magnify arm and VTA Lifter (for adjusting VTA on the fly).

Dean...the thing I like best about your room...more-so than any particular piece of gear; is it just looks like a comfy place, to sit and listen. Congrats!

Thanks CD. It's where I like to relax and relieve stress. It is also designed to appeal to my wife and it does. She and I spent yesterday evening enjoying some nice wine and playing tunes. It was fun. She wants to do that on a regular basis.

My wife doesn't understand my desire to just sit, listen, and unwind, fortunately she lets me do it though!
She's the type of person where music serves as a background while other things are being done.

And I must agree with CD, that's a very enticing setup; maybe I just need to get some towers and a nice leather couch to listen from tongue.gif

My wife tells her friends my music is my soul. She also says I'm a nicer person when I get my dose of listening. Probably true because it relaxes me and relieves stress. She has her iTunes music she likes (country, etc), but in the 19 years we've been together she has learned to really enjoy the classical and jazz I like, especially the jazz.

Drove by VW's 'Glass Manufacture' in Dresden this afternoon and took a pic of the front entrance. Dyn fans should look up to the left and see what's in the windows of the semi-circular room.

Wonder if they'd ever let me in there?

Just went to my dealer Dynaudio Asia(China) today for something. While waiting they let me went to their theatre room to listen some music.

The room is literally a movie theatre, noise isolated. All walls have acoustic treatment except for the projector screen side of the wall. A big leather sofa for setting. They are having a MacBook Air with usb connect to the processor, a huge one i didn't go close to check out the model since I was totally hooked by the music. So, I happened to have my USB drive loaded with some lossless files, I just simply sticked it in and play my music; Mozart Symphony #40 and Concerto for Flute, Harp, and Orchestra.

Forgot to mention, the room has two pair of speakers. S5.4 as the main, S1.4 for surround. I was playing stereo files, of course I could only listen to the S5.4.

All I can say is the experience is truly amazing, as if I was in the concert hall and that whole orchestra is right in-front of me.

Edited, the room looks very similar to this pic, but scale to a four seat sofa size.

Seriously! Yesterday I went to one of my local dealers, he had some Wilson Sophia 3s powered by a McIntosh MC-602; those sounded pretty crazy! I'm hoping to get a listen to the 802d pair he has there next time I visit. The end goal is to buy a demo Naim unit of some sort, haha.

Super nice guy and great setups if you ever have a chance to visit Utah Audio in Sandy, UT. It's hard to find a good hi-fi store that focuses on stereo listening nowadays.

What is the deal with speakers in the sun?

My left speaker is in front of a window/shade but certainly gets a little more than the right speaker. Depends on the time of day/season of course.

The same deal as anything that gets exposed to UV rays, including your skin.

Yep. Ask anyone who does retail window displays. Left in the window too long clothing, or anything for that matter, fades and can be ruined. UV also causes rotting of foam driver surrounds.

UV exposure definitely changes the color of wood. I have a window to the left in the front of my room, so the left side of the left side of the left speaker gets a little sun. Every now and then I swap the speakers.

My record collection used to face a window. I have a lot of box sets where the spine is now a different color than the rest of the box.

However, you can UV-treat windows. Many are in public and work spaces.

Yes leaving speakers in a window even UV treated is not good as it will still dry out the drivers especially the rubber parts make them hard and crack! In addition the wood will also lighten up unless it is cherry, the it will darken.

Cherry is vain and likes to get a tan. tongue.gif

so that means if it sunburns then itll be rosewood, but as the tan darkens, it becomes walnut?

Hello all,

I would like to alter (lower) the treshold value of my sub300 for switching on from standby mode. (or actually rather to avoid it switches off when the LFE signal is low.) Anyone any clues on this one? I've never even taken the amp unit out to see what it looks like on the inside, but I was wondering if anyone on here has perhaps, and if it will be as simple as exchanging a resistor or anything. (NB: the ext. sub output value on my Denon 2808ci AVR already is at +15, which is the highest value and set to it by it's automatic speaker set-up function, and having the sub on factory reset values. The sub300 is out of warranty b.t.w.)

Any other useful tips on this subject are welcome too of course! Could the type/quality of the signal cable (resistance) have significant influence on this?

Thank you.

Regards.
