Anyway, congrats on the baby, Dynlunatic!

Are you saying that the New Excite and Focus lines are essentially the same now? (Aside from the magnetic grilles of the former.) Same cabinets? Same drivers?

Interesting to see how the lines merge now...

New Excite X14 50hz-23khz $1500

Focus 160 / 40hz-25khz / $2900
New Excite X34 / 37hz-23khz / $3400
New Excite X38 / 34hz-23khz / $4500
Focus 260 / 32hz-25khz / $4900

Focus 340 32hz-25khz $7500
Focus 380 30hz-25khz $9500

It gets really interesting in the middle there. An X38 vs. Focus 260 comparison is definitely in order! But then again, once in the Focus line, stay in the Focus line.

No offense GT, but those numbers don't mean much at all regarding speaker performance. The only thing I would take away from those numbers is how low they can go....so, with the posted values...I'd say about an octave above those are where I would consider cutting them off.

If anyone is going to Cedia or the RMAF show we will have the new Excite on active display, Rocky Mountain will obviously be the better show for serious auditioning. Thanks for the baby congrats, she is amazing and since we already have a 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son life has become very interesting.

Rgds,

Congrats Mick, and welcome back.

Do any of these take place by chance in the DC Metro area?
I think it's a Colorado only event.

Congrats on the new baby Mick!

Who would've thought a baby would cause such a stir among the Dynaudio crowd? But seriously, congrats smile.gif

S3.4s can be had for less, and you would still need a preamp/psu. The NAP300/300PS is power amp only (but a nice one). Nevertheless, some nice equipment.

But the NAP300/300PS is an amp/PS combo, yes? But yeah, would still need a pre.

The 300PS is a PSU for the amp only. It will not power anything else. You will need a preamp and another PSU for that. The usual partner for a 300 is the NAC252/SuperCap, but something like a 282/HiCap would work too (note the 252 is higher end than the 282).

So...

NAC252/SuperCap
NAP300/300PS

or

NAC282/HiCap
NAP300/300PS

and either way would be a great setup for the S3.4.

Yea he is way overpriced on those 3.4s...especially in the cherry finish. I think some Cherry 5.4s just sold for less than what he is asking for not to long ago.

Which finishes do the best for resale value???

I have only heard sometime this fall.

I am sure my local dealer in Bethesda, MD will send out an email when they arrive...if they order them to sell...

I'd imagine the gloss finishes, black, and rosewood sell the best but I'm just guessing.

I believe my dealer was less thrilled about accepting Maple finish for trade. For standard finishes Cherry is pretty mainstream and common, at least it used to be.

If I were buying new I'd be tempted to get Piano Black.

For a standard finish on the contour models and up I actually prefer the maple (which I realize is probably the least popular). My 3.4s where maple and I about had maple c2's/maple confidence center but those plans didn't work out in time. My least favorite is Cherry because is just appears so dull to me and I'd think its demand would be right there with the maple...however I'm just guessing. My preference is gloss white. Maybe Mick can fill us in on what finish is the most popular among the Dynaudio lineups.

My Contour S1.4s were Maple and I thought they looked great, especially after I changed the baffles from the stock silver to the charcoal ones used for all the other finishes. When I got my Cherry S3.4s my wife repainted our listening room to match. eek.gif

I think the Walnut should be the most popular just because that's what I have tongue.gif
Seriously I really like the walnut on my 160s . I wanted cherry but its not a option for the 160s surprisingly .CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), default quality

I have Maple S3.4s and I think the color looks fantastic on this speaker.

Walnut seems to be the most common finish on the Focus line.

In my case, the GF played the deciding role. It just so happens that we both boiled it down to either maple or gloss white. Maple fits the best with our home decor. Gloss white is the most modern of the choices. We more or less flipped a coin and landed maple. Maybe next time it will be the gloss white.
In this order:
Rosewood
Walnut
Cherry
Gloss Black
Gloss White
Maple

Cherry is obviously not in the Focus series or the new Excite but the order for the other finishes are the same.

The Confidence series is different and the order is:
Mocca
Bordeaux
Rosewood
Gloss Black
Gloss Rosewood
Cherry
Black Ash
Maple

Home decor is a big deciding factor for most . I really liked the Rosewood/Rosenut but would stick out way to much and clash with my furniture . Cherry would of been perfect so had to choose the next best as far as matching what I have . Now that I have it I'm very happy as it looks much better in person and in my home then pictures .I think that goes for most finishes .

Thanks again for the congrats on the new baby, she was a few years and a few surgeries in the making. You should see the blanket that Borderdog knitted for her, it is definitely her favorite! Ok, he didn't knit it....his wife did but I bet he could if he wanted to.

Mick,
You're too kind with your praise. There is no way I could knit that blanket....I don't have the patience.
Knitting is my wife's therapy and hobby. She listens to her books on CD and knits away. She's so good at it that it's automatic for her. A true craftsman/woman.
When you told me you and your wife were expecting, I asked Cyndi if she could knit a baby blanket for your newborn. She was happy to oblige, because she knows how much you've helped us over the past couple years with your support and input.
The thanks come from me and Cyndi.

there seems to be a lot more wood grain in those veneers then what i have seen in the past of the focus and excites. is that a zebra wood woodgrain?

no surprised about that list. i know at sunils it seems like everything is either mocca, gloss black, walnut or rosewood.

if the original excites had the walnut finish i probably would have all walnut speakers (except black dm2/6s). however the wife and i were tired of all the cheap black ash speakers we had, neither of us a big fan of cherry, rosewood was like a breath of fresh air. however i did not buy the walnut 160s because the x22 was already in rosewood, so getting the rosewood 160s went without saying. then the rosewood 2/6s were just icing on the cake.

although if any of the birdseye colors or bordeaux had been available, i would have jumped on those. always liked that burled look.
