While Sony recommends viewing distances of 6.2 ft and 6.6 ft for the 46 and 50, I'm not sure if I should go bigger. I only have 8 ft and want to minimize SDE and SSE.
post #122 of 3322
At a max of 8 feet, I would definitely not go any bigger than 50" with a 720P set. If you do, you're quite likely to see the screen door effect from the space between pixels. If your max range is 8', I'd probably go for the 46" myself.
post #123 of 3322
I sit 11 feet from my 50" and I can see SSE. I cannot see SDE unless I get about three feet from the screen.

so you are telling me the a10 will have a HIGHER resultion picture because of the number of pixels vs the new model

Bull the only reason that some LCD RPTV have more pixels is because they actually use 3 LCD panels ( one Red one Green and One blue) which are mechanically aligned with each other, this does not result in a higher resolution display image since the signals from each of the 3 different LCD panels are superimposed on each other. It is all Marketing Hype.

Same here. I sit about 10 feet away from my 50E2000, What Iris setting are you guys using? I use Auto 2, I was using Low.
post #126 of 3322
I use Auto 1, Picture 65, Brightness 45, Color 50, Hue 0, Color Temp. Warm 1, Sharpness 15, NR Off, DRC Mode High Density, DRC Palette Reality 10/Clarity 75, Black Corrector Off, Gamma High, Clear White Off and Color Corrector Off.

Hi all, I'm new around here but have been lurking for some time. I've picked the 46E2000 as one of my choices to get my feet wet in the HDTV pond and was hoping some of you could help me out. I was in a store today and really liked the set (so did my wife).

The space I'll be using is a armoire/entertainment center that has about 45" of space. According to the specs, the set is 43.15" wide, which would be a squeeze and probably not allow for the use of the side jacks, which I can live with. My concern is heat. Is this enough room for circulation? It will have plenty of room in the rear.

Also, I have an Xbox 360 and from what I can figure this set is perhaps one of the best for gaming in HD, is that true? Thanks.

This set will own for Xbox360, ive been playing all night its fantastic According to the owners manual, its 12 inches from the top of the set, 4 inches left, right and behind is recommended for cooling

Also,

Does anyone know the service menu code, i want to look @ overscan adjustment, but i think the set is almost dead on
post #129 of 3322
Just picked up the 46E2000. Slight pincusion at the lower edges. 3 dead pixels. Other than that, it's good, so far. Considering returning for a new set due to these 2 problems.

So should I opt for last year's 42" A10 so I have more ventilation room, or do you think I can get by?

I think its your call, i mean, you can turn the cooling mode up one notch, but other than that, i really dont know. I'm sorry

btw, i have 1 single stuck blue pixel, not a big deal really

I don't have my HDMI-to-DVI cable yet, so I am watching my HD receiver with component cables. It looks pretty good. How much improvement in the HD PQ can I expect once I get the right cable?

I dont think a whole lot, if any at all. Ive read many discussions about hdmi vs. component, and it usually ends in a virtual tie in quality, with the debate just ending in.. " well hdmi is digital :P " haha

once again, what is the service code to get into the menu

So the bad pixels are not very noticeable from viewing distance. The screen geometry is a bit annoying, and there is a bit of a high pitched noise coming from the rear. Too bad, I really like this tv. I'll give it a couple more days.

Maybe you got a bad one I dont have any high pitched noise. Did you happen to raise the cooling level on the sets options by accident?

No, the cooling level is normal. Maybe I just hear that normal high pitched buzz you get from all tvs.
post #137 of 3322
If you can notice the bad pixels at all, I would exchange it. If you bought from a place like Circuit City they have a no questions asked 30 day return policy. I returned a plasma, then a DLP before I settled on this set. And I was prepared to send it back if there were any bad pixels. I had the delivery guys wait while I put up white, black, red, blue and green screens looking for bad pixels. My set is completely silent, and I notice no pincushion. But I never use 4:3 mode, and that is where I would probably notice it, with the black bars up.

What did you use to get these colored screens?
post #139 of 3322
I used a very low tech approach, but it seemed effective. I use Graphic Converter to make solid color pics of the same resolution of the tv, then I used iDVD and made a DVD slideshow with all the pictures. Put the DVD in and played it, and voila.
post #140 of 3322
I didn't have the tv delivered. I picked it up so it's more difficult for me to check it. I'm sure they won't open it in the store for inspection.
post #141 of 3322
Maybe we can start focusing on Settings

Custom
Auto Iris 2
Picture = 90
Brightness = 60
Color = 60
Hue = default
Color Temp = Neutral
Sharpness = 20

Advanced Settings
Black Corrector = Low
Gamma = High
Clear White = Off
Color Corrector = Off

Those are mine...

What are you guys running with?

I found the 42" A10 for about $300 less than the new 46" E2000. The 42" would actually fit better, but it also would be nice to have that extra few inches for viewing because I'm a good nine feet away. But is the E2000 that much better of a set overall as well?
post #143 of 3322
I think I see image retention on my 50E2000 screen. I have a slight vertical line running down the left and right side, it looks like the 4:3 borders. I know these RP LCDs don't have burn-in issues but what else could it be. I have heard that powering the TV down for a few hours and the lines should go away. Anyone else know something about this.
post #144 of 3322
Burn-in is not supposed to be possible on LCD RPs, but the manual does describe image retention, which is a temporary condition which goes away after turning the set off for a while. They don't say how long, but I imagine no more than a few minutes. Are you still having issues? Occassionally you hear about someone with burn-in on LCDs, but it is not typical of the technology, from what I have learned.
post #145 of 3322
Most of my TV watching is 4:3 SD. I shut off my TV for about 20min but its still there. I've read that leaving it off for a few hours cures it. When I go to bed tonight I'll check it in the morning. I'm really not that worried, I have a great dealer which I bought it from and I still believe it is image retention.
post #146 of 3322
This is probably going to be the tv I end up with. Things are looking good so far. Just wanted to know if someone could explain SSE to me. I know what it stands for, but how could someone best describe it.

Thanks

I think that both sets are essentially the same with the exception of how the "iris" feature is handled in the user level menu. In certain picture modes in the A10, you only have access to varies levels in the dynamic mode. In the E2000, in those same picture modes, you can also go with a fixed aperature and different brightness levels. I don't care for the dynamic iris as its bouncing draws my attention, pulling me out of the show. With the fixed iris, during the day, you can have it on a fixed bright level and in the evening, reduced the fixed setting to a lower number. Is this feature worth extra money, that would be up to you.

Just returned my set with the bad pixels and screen geometry. The new set has 0 bad pixels and near perfect geometry. This tv is far superior to that samsung 4663w I got rid of. Now, on to the tweaks.

Just went and looked at the 55E2000. I cant wait to get this thing Aug 14th. It really looked good. I ran into a family trying to decide on TV's and they were being pushed to the SXRD by the sales person at best buy. The family asked me what I thought would be a good choice for them. So, I started asking them some questions and they didn't even know you had to get a HD source. So I explained a few things to them, that I learned on this site, and recommended the E2000 based on peoples reviews of the A10, which seemed to be a good television.

Anyway, can't wait for my 55E2000, and am still amazed that people are buying these tvs without any idea that you need to get an HDTV source. You think the sales person would ask them a couple of questions.

Anyone Else Have A Problem With Noise Coming From The Back Of The Tv.i Hear A High Pitched Noise Coming From The Left Rear Of The Tv Where The Fan Is.not Sure If It Is The Fan Or The Iris.when I Turn The Tv Off The Sound Goes Away Completely.therefore I Don't Think It Is The Fan Because It Is Supposed To Stay On For A Couple Minutes After You Turn Yhe Tv Off.seriously Thinking About Exchanging For A New One.if This Is Normal I Can Live With,otherwise This Set Is Great.
