If you have an input device like a computer or STB that uses a DVI connection then you can use a cable with a DVI connector on one end and a HDMI connector on the other end.

That will work fine for video, but there will be no audio signal because the source is DVI. One of the HDMI connections has a stereo RCA type analog connection for audio to the TV. That HDMI connection is labeled for use with DVI.

Do you know if it has dvi on this set? I would be happy if it did, that would give me 3 dig inputs (2 HDMI and 1 DVI) for my 3 things I want to connect to it. It would save me the trouble of getting an hdmi switcher for the third thing I want to plug into it.

Anyone know if this has DVI (in addition to 2 HDMI inputs) Thanks, Jerry

Just saw a pic of the back that answers my question. Thanks, Jerry

All Samsung 1080p HLS models have two HDMI inputs. None of them have a DVI input.

Look at Specifications on page 115 of the HL-S6767 manual and you will see that there are two component (analog) and two HDMI (digital) inputs. There is also one VGA (analog) input that can be used with computers.

Page 23 shows the two HDMI input ports. The lower one has an associated stereo audio connection that you need if you are connecting a STB with a DVI output.

Either HDMI port can be used with DVI but you need a separate sound system if you use HDMI #1. They both can be used to connect a computer to a HL-S6767 model even though the manual says otherwise.

your exactly right HT. Thanks for the help. I saw a pic that confirmed it for me and checked out the guide also. Do you know what the "RS232C" is? Theres a pic of it on page 12 of the manuel. Its number 11 on the picture and says service only. Whatever that is, thats what I was mistaken for DVI.

Appreciate your help, Jerry

It's an older type computer communications port that Samsung must use for some process during manufacturing. So far there isn't any known consumer use.
It was a serial port spec (what mice and printers used to use before USB)

I guess firmware updates can be done thru this port.

But don't try it guys, you might regret it.

I sent it in on March1 or 2 by express mail, haven't got it yet. I expect "regular" mail.

what 70" jvc lcos model from costco is same price as this tv? i guess u mean 3k not 2500 but still good.

i think the jvc just dosnt have a vga port so not good for 360. but could put the sammy 67 in bsement for mostly 360 use while jvc wuld be for tv viewing & maybe later ps3.

i wouldnt regularly be thinking aout a new tv already but the sammy is getting a lot uf use/hours put on it being main tv b movie viewing plus eeing heavy 360 usage.

i have a 2004 60" 720p/1080i panny rp lcd in basement but im spoild by the the 1080p sammy & the extra 7" plus panny doesnt have vga i dnt think which is the best wa to cnnect 360 for upconverting games ad movies plus hddvd player would be not reaching full potential on 1080i.

so its not going to cut it for 360 but not only do i need to breal up the usage on the samy 67 i need to move 360 to basement so i dont wake my prego wife up when im on live at night. but cant see moving panny back up to fam room and she doesnt want it either.

cant believe a 60" 720p/1080i isnt good enough anymore heh when to think some yeara ago biggest tv we had when first moved into out first place togethr was a 27-to30" crt till we got a 42" ed plasma (back when plasms were super expensive & ed was the way to go cus u saved some & side by side it looked exact same as the hd plasmas of same make) but then the hdtv addiction grew from there over the years.

anyway if im worried about hours & lap life i could wait for 61" samy led dlp coming soon. thinking about that but then where to put it, basement or fam room. either wa is going to be a 6" drop in either tv viewing if it goes in fam room or in 360 gaming if goes in basemen plus i cant see putting brand new arguably better then the 67 tv in basement just mostl for my 360 playing. ( i do watch 24 down there because i never saw it so finally decided to start at season one and rent all of it on dvd hopefully using discover rewards for free rental cus 6 seasons or whatever of rentals would add up) i figured especialy season one came out what 6 years ago so maybe wasnt worth watching on newer better largr tv on upconvert player. i like the prog scan panny dvd player i have down there as it lights up blue but will prob get another upconvert player for down there. meantime denon 1080p upconvert player & 36 are upstairs on sammy 67 even though i know the 360hddvd (& even the 360s regular drive) can upconvert but i save it for hddvds & keep it unplugged during gaming to preserve it.

funny thing is basement is newes nicest room in house but wife still watches in fam room & only i currently mostl use the basemnt home theatre with in wall speakers.

if i get 61" sammy led, that could go in basement for 360 use where i could put a ton of hours on it & not worry about lamp and while it would be better & 1" bigger then the 720p panny 60" rp lcd there now, its still would be 6" smmaller then what im used to playing 360 on & i need that big screen to see other players in the distance in graw2 & lost planet so i can snipe them, heh.

maybe just breaking up the tv & 360 use to 2 sep tvs will prolong the bulb life enough?
if i can get the sammy 67 down basement stairwell that could become basemnt tv for mostly 360 use & hddvds (which is rare cus our closest blockbuster doesnt have them).

then i can get 70" jvc lcos from costco (.com only?) for fam room for fios hdtv/dvr plus reg dvds on 1080p upconvert player.

thats prob way to go except fact tha the space is filled up by the 67 in fam room b its a tough corner spot. cant fit any large stand & corner fit stand woud be ideal but is a cornr with a shorter wall on the one side before window so corner stand may not work or help anyway. the 67 sammy was actually equal or less wide then the panny 60" cus the panny has spaeakers on side but i cant go much wider then the 67 unless the bezel is reallly thin. 67 is really best size for hat room unless i go down to 65 which shouldt be much diff if the 70 wont fit.

its a tough space because its longer then wide room with fireplce on one long wall so cant put tv on that ( unless flat screen mounted above gs fieplace which is too high bgets too hot) or the opposite wall cus then sofa has back to fire. windows on the one shorter wall with sill almot to floor s no no tv there. only other plce u can do is the opposite side short wall with sofa up againt/with its back to windo like my neigbors have (townhouse so same layout). tha gives u a long distance to tv justifying alarger screen size plus a flat wall to put it up against instead of a corner instead of a unequal corner woth one side stopping short before window & the other going a little further in corner but then there is an entrance to kitchen.

problem is we dont want to cover nice almot to floor windows & have our back to them plus we have huge huge sectional sofa going all he way along the long wall and wraping around the angled/rounding corner which fits perfect & wnt fit as good if properly at all on other side. not to mention would hve to reroute the cable wires/outlet plus fiber optic interenet ethernet cable/outlet which would be major pita & expense to prob need electrician. so its not that viable a solution.

at 2500 i thought about it but i dnt want to get another 67 sammy
but like to hve something different stead of two of the same besides it bac up to 3k which supposedy i can get the 70" jvc for?

so i think thas way to go. just hope it fits otherwise will have to go with a 65" cus there is no othe 67's right? and if i cant get sammy 67 down basemen steps will have to go with 65 for down there. mitsu maybe.

i want to entertain the idea o the 70" jvc first. ayone hve link to thread about it or to costco page with it? how does it compare to this sammy?

(sorry for typo & missed letters in this & any other posts as this was dne using a samsung blackjack smartphone which hs the wors keyboard & sme others with other ppc phone which is a liitle better but still prone to mistakes)

Damn, that's impressive. You typed all of that on your phone? BJ, but still!
you love your tv but are concerned about heavy usage, so you contemplate paying thousands more to replace it with a different tv???

why not just enjoy the thing you spent a lot of money on and seem to love - and set aside a couple of hundred bucks to replace the bulb sometime in the next 3 or more years?
yes I typed all that on a samsung blackjack & other equally long emails, posts etc on that and this HTC Hermes/TyTN. the latter has a larger nice r keyboard so is easier & pretty quick while the former misses a lot of letters if you are at all fast. I guess I'm just a fast typer on all keyboards from pc to qwerty phones and even phoneswith just numbers using stuff like T9 text support.
that being said I'm not sure if you really are being nice in some way or sarcastically trying to flame me for long post from a smartphone but either way you don't offer much suggestion in the line of an additional tv to coincide with the 6767 to break up usage.

speaking of which to the last poster, you must have misunderstood as I never said I was looking to "replace" my hls6767 but rather add another tv of similar size and feature but diff brand and tech type (dlp, lcos etc) to coincide with my 6767 to break up the heavy usage. who said I wasn't enjoying it? I use it a ton. I haven't been like some ppl who like won't turn it back on again after its been off or purposely use a diff to preserve it etc etc.

its just I realize its getting heavy use and if I got another tv and made the 67 just for cable hdtv/dvr etc & upconverted reg dvds while the other would be for 360 & hddvds would split the usage up nicely & not go through the lamp on one set as quickly.

I see your point that a bulb is cheaper then a second tv, I explained that I want to move my 360 to basement anyway for several reasons which I explained in more then enough detail (more comfortable sofa with reclining lounge & more straight angle to tv then fam room both ideal for gaming plus factor of wakingup pregnant wife from the noise of playing games @ 1920x1080 on ht surround sound & talking loudly with opponents & teammates alike over the gunshots explosions & other sounds of warfare in games like gears of war & graw2, heh). bedroom is one floor up but not enough. two floors down in finished basement with glass basement door closed would be better.

as I explained as shame as it is the old (2004, heh) 60" rp panny lcd won't cut it anymore especially for 360 ( 7" smaller then I'm used to and spoiled by not to mention its only 720p) and wife doesn't want it back up in fam room.
hence if i need to sell it if I can & was just wondering what others might suggest as a good complimentary tv to the 6767 (S opposed to getting a second 6767 whih I think at least one guy did) with similar price size and features. a bit off topic but the 70" jvc lcos @ costco has been mentioned / compared several times so thought it was fair conversation/topic.

and will be curious to see what other tvs fellow owners of this tv get in addition or next as I feel its a benchmark in quality & value ( especially @ 2500).

in other interesting & semi related news considering a few months ago there was a significant amount of talk about use of the xbox 360 with this tv in that it was a great experience/killer app with this set which basically caused me to get one (damn you guys). a new black 360 is coming out next month with hdmi & 120gb hdd.

personally I like using the vga cable as it produces great pq & upconversion of games & dvds plus great hddvd playback and leaves the 2 hdmi slots free for cable box & upconvert dvd player but having hdmi competes with the ps3 better and means you won't need a tv that has vga now to get best pq with the 360 (i believe the 70" jvc doesn't have vga input)

also was wondering where might be the next best place to buy from now that costco policy change makes them not quite as attractive to purchase from in the opinion of the educated consumers of this thread.

in other words, costco and this set (@2500) was a no brainer before policy change. which set/merchant is the next great deal or will there be nothing this good for some time? guess its more of a ************** type of thing at that point.

one other more relevant question? does anyone else sometimes hear a creak from the set like when a house is settling or whatever. now and then hear a loud snap crackle or pop from the set during operation but no visible sign just audible. I assume its jst the cabinet or stand but still somewhat concerning.

further I could hold off on another tv for now & get the pro calibration. but I seem to be happy using the preset modes (standard for night tv viewing, dynamic during day, movie for movie, & pc/game mode for 360) will pro calibration mess all that up and have me stuck with one mood? if I'm happy with presets without even doing the suggested settings of early in the thread is pro cal still worth it for me or is there a chance I pay & end up lswitching back to presets anyway making it a waste.

I mean I assume I can show them my diff content (tv,hddvd ,360 etc) and have a mode with ideal settings made for each but still not sure its worth it fir me.

Ok guys bear with me my FIRST POST!! I just picked up this baby at costco (90 day return policy on costco_DOT_com, but IN STORE return policy is still "unlimited" until April 1, when 90 day policy starts..check your local store..it may be time to fire now and get an unlimited return policy! Like you all, it pisses me off that people abuse it, I just want it in my back pocket in case the manufacturer gives me the run around down the line...

WOW THIS TV IS AWESOME!!!!! I have a PS3 and confirmed 1080p connection via HDMI in the PS3 menu. I put on the "game" mode, and it was just incredible what this thing can do playing games, like F1 racing (no lag whatsoever..and F1 is one of the fastest response games ever made). Also playing Blu-rays was great (1080p) and standard DVD's (not upgraded by PS3).
HAS ANYONE WITH A 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 SYSTEM AND WITHOUT A CABINET FIGURED OUT A WAY TO MOUNT A CENTER CHANNEL SPEAKER ON TOP OF THE SAMMY??? PLEASE LET ME KNOW HOW. I SAW ON A MITS THREAD SOME GUY USED A COAT HACK PURCHASED FROM LOWES??!??
I do have 2 questions/concerns however, and perhaps some of you have seen this:

1. On two occassions while gaming, each for only about one second, the entire screen went blank. Once during F1 racing after crashing the car, and another time during Resistance Fall of Man (shooter game). This hasn't happened ever with my 50" panny plasma (i know, watch out for IR). ANY IDEAS ON THIS??? I'm thinking its not the PS3 since I've never seen it on the panny??? if i had it in game mode, would that matter?

2. During blu-ray movies (this happens also during standard DVD's but I expect it there), I frequently see (forgive me, I'll try and describe it) the pixels seem to "boil" like water simmering in a stove. I mean, for example, on a guy's brown shirt, the pixels all over the shirt tend to alternate in color and thus give this "boiling" effect? Its not EXTREME, but noticeable. My viewing distance is the minimum suggested of 8 feet. Is that contributing???

Thanks in advance. I'm still VERY SATISFIED, especially knowing I have an extended return policy should I have some issue which the manufacturer won't take care of. Thanks again!!!

This one I made to match the existing wall unit turned out ok. I put in 2 fans to keep rcvr and dvr cool now to sell ps3 and replace with pio blu-ray will post bedroom unit tomorrow as my wife is sleeping now. I moved the calibrated one to the bedroom. I bought this one right before the superbowl for that low price.

this stand is tall for prone viewing it was supposed to look like the black piece in the left of photo but I couldn't find the recessed pulls nor the antique brass angles which I thought would be easy with the power of the internet, but not yet . each took 80.00 in birch ply and a weekend or so to complete

Does anyone have an idea of how the Samsung compares with the 70" JVC that Costco sells? I've read the thread on the various JVC H-ILA models, and everyone there thinks that the JVCs are awesome, but I'm wondering how it stacks up against the Samsung since they're now the same price with stand.

I personally love the sammy's as do most people on this thread, IMHO Any set in this range will be impressive to watch with good pq . I went for the sammy's for the calibrated look as they calibrate closer to the standard than others, so Im told

HELP!!!!!
Ok I just bought my 6767W last week, I put it on the regular cable source and turned on the cable manager and autoscan feature to scan for channels (I just have rabbit ear antenna right now). After it completed, it said "no channels found". Then I clicked back to HDMI 1 to the PS3 menu, BUT THE RIGHT SPEAKER WAS STILL OUTPUTTING THE STATIC SOUND FROM THE STATIC CABLE CHANNEL!!! I TURNED OFF THE TV...STILL OUTPUTTING THE STATIC SOUND!! PLUGGED OUT TV AND BACK IN AGAIN, TURNED IT ON...STILL OUTPUTTING THE STATIC SOUND ON RIGHT SPEAKER!!.
Any ideas on this?? Is it repairable by Samsung?? Or should I just send it back to Costco?? Right speaker constantly outtpuing static! THANKS!

Answers based on my experience:
1. I haven't noticed any blank screens with Resistance or with Gran Turismo HD, though I haven't yet spent a lot of time with them. Are you running your HDMI signal through any other devices? HDCP signaling issues could be causing this.

2. I have noticed on a back to back comparison of blu-ray and HD-DVD on this TV that the pixels can be rather large and noisy in dark areas or dark scenes when compared with HD-DVD. This could be the movies and the compression they used, or it could have something to do with the PS3, as I don't have another Blu-ray player to compare to.

Hope this helps!

Call Samsung first. If it's going to be a huge hassle, exchange the TV with Costco.

What's the latest on this Surfdude12? Were you able to get Sammy to replace?
can someone please pm me the prices you are getting for samsungs 50< at costco or sams?
senor 360 - sammy conceded on two separate occassions that at least this TV (didn't elaborate about others) processes the 720P video game PS3 signal fine via HDMI but has issues processing the BR 1080p ps3 signal via HDMI, leading to the pixelation problem. On both occasions, the reps said the speakers can be replaced, which is not my chief worry, since if the image problem remains, who cares?? I read this blog, the 87, 88 blog and PS3 blog, and received a suggestion to turn off DNR and DNie, which I did. Turning off Dnie helped considerably. Also, I was watching BR's in dynamic mode, not movie mode, and punched in the calibrated settings at the beginning of this thread for movie mode (eg. contrast down from 70 to 52). That improved the problem also. THe problem now is bearable, but I have these two questions for you senor360:
1. How do your BR's look from ps3 through HDMI at 1080p signal?
2. What are your picture mode settings? I read everywhere how "Movie" mode and Warm2, with contrast 45-50, brightness 45, sharp 0, and tint 50 works best...but for some reason movies/gaming looks great to me on standard dynanmic...am I nuts????
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
by the way when i say "movies/games looks better on standard dynamic mode than movie mode", i mean that without considering the pixelation problem, and just based on color, etc, as the pixelation problem is slightly worse for dynamic than movie mode. thanks!
UPDATE: it looks like the pixelation problem was EXTREMELY reduced by turning off DniE, turning off DNR didn't reduce it that much. Also, it seems as though the problem was more noticeable with older BR's (T2, 1991 and Saw, 2004), I just bought the best HQ BR (Casino Royale, 2006).. HOLY CRAPOLA!!!!!!!!! Ok so apparently either (1) this TV has no issue processing the PS3 1080p signal via HDMI or (2) the pixelation problem due to 1080p via HDMI (NONEXISTENT DURING CASINO ROYALE BR) is a filming-technology-dependent problem??? ie. T2, 1991 worst, then saw 2004, then Casino Royale NO PROBLEM Regardless, I'm all smiles...to at least know SOME BR'S ARE GREAT ON THIS THING IS A RELIEF!!! I KNEW I COULD COUNT ON BOND!!
yes, a lot of the pixelation you will see will be the result of the chosen compression algorithm used. Older movies will definitely look worse. New movies shot on film stock will look better, but movies filmed digitally from the beginning will look the best, such as King Kong in HDDVD, sourced originally in digital formats.
I've had my Samsung HL-S6767 DLP since January, it looks Absolutely Fantastic when fed my Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD @ 1080i (King Kong-Happy Feet-Ray-Hulk-Phantom-Poseidon-Corpse Bride...etc)! The new HD Discovery series, "Planet Earth", is Also Breathtaking, as are other HD programming!!

This 67" has superb colors, sharp and crystal details, excellent depth and stunning contrast\\black levels...Never have seen better!! SD-Digital broadcast looks Great also, but when viewing HD sources, all I ever hear from guest are, "WOW-WOW"!!!!!

I am Very Pleased with this purchase and would do it all over again if it were still available, no matter What comes out in the HD display future!

I'm seriously considering purchasing an HL-S7178W since I missed the $2499 sale on the 6767W (along with the unlimited return policy) at Costco. With the current 2999 price plus tax, shipping, and concierge setup, I'm pretty close to the price of the 7178 from authorized online retailers who don't charge shipping and tax. Of course, I'll have to buy a stand. Does anybody have any thoughts on which of these two that they would prefer if price were equal or close? Also, I've scoured this thread, and I can't find whether or not the 6767W accepts 1080p over component. If Costco drops the price back to 2499 for, say, NBA and NHL playoff season, I'll definitely get the 67.
