Your set has the same internals that the "87" models have only there hasn't been an upgrade for the HL-S6767 service menu.

Here is overscan information that I've collected.

OVERSCAN for "87" series models:

There seem to be problems when you turn overscan off if your HL-Sxx87 set has the new firmware.

A Report From cricks

If your HL-Sxx87 model TV has a build date of 12/11/2006 or later turning overscan off will be easy, but it may not be what you want (See cricks above). If your set is older than that, turning overscan off isn't practical without also having the TV professionally calibrated.

For overscan and pre 12/11/2006 HL-Sxx87 sets start here.

The Long Overscan Story

The folks who like the "overscan" off feature the most are HTPC users.

I would not want to be without 1:1 pixel mapping because of my HTPC.

One problem that you may have is that there is still "physical overscan" that will cut off some of the Task Bar in Windows. There are two ways around this problem. You can double the size of the Task Bar. That's the easy work around.

Turn off overscan and adjust vertical and horizontal image location with these instructions.

Provided by scsiraid

You can also use a program called PowerStrip to customize your desktop resolution. I haven't used PowerStrip myself but it's very popular with HTPC owners.

You can get PowerStrip 3.7 here.

If your set was built on or later than 12/11/2006 then the instructions for turning overscan off are different, but the setting will hold when the set is turned off.

New "87" model firmware/SM dated 12/11/2006

From the Main SM screen select SDP62(SCALER). The overscan switch is located at the bottom of the right side column on the "SCALER" screen.

I hope someone can help me with this. I've scoured the internet and this thread and I'm stumped. I am experiencing something someone earlier may have referred to as an Orange Peel Effect? So here goes, it's kind of hard to explain, but when I view my TV from direct center, there is a strange kind of bright color breakdown effect that occurs. It's not noticeable from side viewing angles. I have tried to photograph it but its not perceivable in photos. It's most prominent on light colors, and much less so on darks. It permeates from the center of the screen..like a hot spot and out to the edges of the screen. For example: If I were looking at a solid white screen, the effected area would not appear solid white, rather it would have have an almost orange peel textured blur of white, very distinguishable from the rest of the screen. It seems as though the white is broken into very very tiny spots of different colors of the spectrum. Almost as though it's overly bright. I see it any where from between 2 feet to around 20ft viewing distance. Ambient light has no effect on it, and changing the menu settings does not effect it. Other people can see it, so I know I'm not crazy. My best guess is that it may have something to do with the screen. Would a screen that is not perfectly flat possibly cause this? I notice a small amount of pincushioning on 4:3 content, but it seems that everyone experiences that. Any help would be appreciated, I am considering returning it to Costco for a replacement or need to know if this is something that a calibration could remedy.

Jaeyden,

It sounds like you are seeing what has been referred to as the silk screen effect, or SSE. Its' perception may be reduced by reducing the overall light output of the display. Ultimately though, it is a factor of the design of the screen.

Good Pictures!

Hello Everyone,

I picked up this set from CostCo about 3 weeks ago and was very happy to see my XBOX 360 output 1080P through component to this tv and it is accepting it. The detail is amazing even compared to my previous view using a 26" tube tv at 1080i. I can not believe the extra amount of detail in such a large picture.

I also picked up the Samsung DVD 1080P7 for upconversion of DVD's and so far it looks good.

The only thing I need to do is buy a new calibration disk for digital devices. I have an old AVIA which I have not used to calibrate.

So far this set seems excellent and I love the 67" size since I have a 15' viewing distance.

David, how does the 67" look at 9 or 10 feet?

We're at about that distance, and it looks great! EXCEPT.. for those moments in movies/tv shows when it goes to a completely white scene.. my god.. it's like staring at a spotlight!

Still love my set. Hope everyone is still enjoying theirs.

Gurn at 9 or 10 feet I still feel the set looks wonderful especially on ANY HD source or DVD. On Standard Dish Network it does depend on the specific channel etc. (I have yet to decide on Dish, Direct or Cable for High Def I am using rabit ears for OTA which looks wonderful)

I concur the light output on Movie in a dark room with a commercial which is all white is VERY bright!!!

I think calibration may fix some of that but this set is well suited to standard daytime family room sports viewing.

PS the box recommends 8'-16' viewing distance which I think is about right.

Very nice info. I'll have to think seriously about this set again.

Hello. I am clearly an amateur so I will try to ask this question right: does the 6767 support 24fps via HDMI from a Blu-Ray Player? I am looking to purchase the Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-Ray Player.

Thanks.

Instead of a separate DVD player, why not buy the Xbox 360 HD-DVD player which also upconverts? One device, all the functions you need, and you get HD-DVD capability?

I have it and I love it. I don't know if you read my post a while back, but I also have PS3, and I have compared Superman Returns on BluRay and HD-DVD and I gave a slight nod to HD-DVD over Blu-Ray. Nothing you'd see without intense scrutiny, but it's there nonetheless.

Well, Costco dropped the price again. I'm concerned about how they handle returns. I spoke with a CS supervisor at Costco online, and they said that I MUST keep the box in order for them to pick up this TV for return. I explained that you can't really repackage this set, but he was adamant about keeping the box. I don't relish keeping this box for 90 days, but I will if I have to. I suppose that I could rent a truck and return it to a store, but what a hassle!

Also, the Concierge Service said that the 2nd year of the warranty is limited to half the cost of the TV when covering repair costs. He also wasn't certain that I could get in-home repair even though I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Can I buy a separate extended warranty for this thing through Repairmaster, Warrantech, etc? I may wait and see if Sam's carries this again (they did during Christmas). Sam's just started carrying an HL-T 61" (yes, it is indeed the T model), so maybe they'll carry the 67" again. Plus, Sam's sells a 3 yr warranty with in-home service for just $199.

Oops, I just saw that Samsung also lists an HL-T6756W on their website. Maybe Sam's will carry this soon. (fingers crossed)

Costco's Summer 2007 Passport savings coupon book has a Samsung 67" 1080p DLP set in there. The picture on the coupon looks like the picture of the HL-T6756W that is on Samsung's site. The coupon is for $400 off, valid Aug 6 - Aug 12th. The Costco item number is 226767 (The current HLS one is 116767).

If your looking for extended warranties, check out the warranties that are offered to the AVSforum through Texastapeworks, they have just recently pulled their powerbuy, but it would appear the pricing is still in effect. You can buy the TV from Sams or Costco or others and buy these warranties... Works out pretty well....

Now I've got me a good problem. I went into the service menu to adjust some settings and accidentally triggered the factory reset. Now, my Xbox 360, hooked up through the VGA port, has a 1-2" black bar ALL THE WAY AROUND the picture. The image does not fill the entire screen! It's highly annoying. I cannot change it through any of the settings in the TV's user menu, and nothing was changed on the 360. I think it was the factory reset, as it started at the same time, but I'm not entirely sure.

Does anyone know exactly how to fix this?

Changing the resolution on the 360 shows correctly when I hit the info button on the TV remote, but still no workie.

EDIT: solved my own problem. I was hitting the button above P.SIZE. Oops. I am still losing a small amount, but at least the screen is filled.

Just wanted to add that the HD-DVD Add-on doesn't upconvert anything, it's just a drive, it's the 360 that does that and thus it already does DVD upconverting over VGA with it's own DVD drive, the add-on changes nothing in DVD playback.

Yep, he's right. The only time that would be a potential issue is if you hooked it up to your pc instead of your 360.

Anyone know what the difference will be between the 116767 currently in Costco and the 226767 from the coupon?

My guess is that with the price drop to $2499, the new one will be this year's internals at $2999, but what are the changes?

Thanks,

Patrick
It could possibly be one of the new LED backlit models.
I am eyeing that exact TV for my next purchase. Sure would be nice if Costco would give us a price or model number at least.
and the coupon says nothing about an included stand...
I'm guessing it won't include the stand. The new ones usually don't. It seems that they through the stand in on the older models. Older being a relative term of course

The only bad thing I've read about the s6767w is that the DNIe circuit is permanently on,
that is, you can't turn it off. I've also read that one can supposedly turn it
off via the service menu, but there's a catch...it stays 'off' only until you
switch inputs or recycle the power, so in effect you can't really turn it off
at all.
Can anyone confirm from personal experimentation that the DNIe can/cannot be
turned off permanently?

interesting news on the HL-T6756W (Costco item# 226767 as opposed to 116767 for the HL-S6767).

I wonder what the HL-T series has that the HL-S doesn't and that would be pretty exciting if the HL-T6756W is LED but I highly doubt it as the largest LED based Samsung dlp is a 61".

Seems the HL-S6767 has only dropped $2,749.99 on Costco.com so not as good as the 2500 price during the holidays.

The $400 off the HL-T6756W for that one week in August is interesting and means that they will have that model by then. It still probably wont be as good of a price on that model that it will eventually come down to later like the hls did but if you want to get it new or early or are between the hls and upcoming hlt then the coupon will mostly likely lean you towards the hlt model.

If it is LED I will seriously be considering selling my hls for the led hlt but again i really doubt it.

lookwise from the picture on the coupon it looks like the same casing that the current model samsung 5679 led model and the 71" (not led) model have which was not the thin bezel casing that most hls models had this past year. the 5679 and the 71 " (forget the model #) were a shiny black bezel but not really any thinner then the hls6767 nor do they have the floating design of the hls6767 which the previous year models had.

This would go along with trend of Costco getting new models in teh previous years casing so my guess would be th HL-T6756W has the same casing as the Samsung 5679 led model and the 71" non led.

I do somewhat like the shiny bezel but shame they didn't do this model in this past years thin bezel that most HLS were. Also some feel the the shiny bezel especially when thicker can cause some glar. Other then that nothing really special about the casing and it doens't have the floating bezel/casing like our hls6767 which is at least an interesting feature that i still enjoy.

meantime I am waiting for the JVC 65" slim LCOS which I'm assuming Costco will get when it comes out as they have the 58" slim jvc lcos now.

I am interesting in what tvs owners of the hls6767 might get next or in addition to this set.

The 70" JVC lcos (not slim) was a direct competitor to the hls6767 @ costco in size, price and fetures but the samsung seemed to have a slight edge in both professional and customer reviews. JVC did come second to Samsung in a Home Theatre magazine roundup for rear projection sets. While being somewhat of a Samsung fan for tvs I am open to JVC as well.

At this point i'm looking for something more from a large screen rear projec. tv. Namely either LED which I think still only Samsung has put any of these out though other manufac. have been expected to (or laser as in the case of upcoming Mitsubishi sets) for longer bulb life, or a slimmer cabinet as in the case of the new slim line JVC lcos sets (again 58" at costco)

Ideally I would like both a slim cabinet and led or laser projection for longer bulb life but seems right now there is only one or the other with samsung doing led and jvc having the first slim line rear projection sets with their lcos.

I do also already have a 60" Panasonic RP LCD and of course the dlp hls 6767 so id' be leaning towards Lcos for that reason to try it out. I prefer the microdisplays because you get more screen for less money that flat plasma or lcd and there are 3 diff types of rp sets to choose from. As more companies use alt. bulb or form of projection liked LED and laser and make them thinner (like the JVC which btw is not as thin as plasma but still wall mountable) these rp sets have a decent future it seems.

picture on samsung webstie for the HL-T6756 shows a thin bezel and also a silver line at bottom where speaker is.

? I think that was about turning the overscan setting off and not DNIe. You do not need service menu access to turn off DNIe on these sets.

I'm not even sure if that is still true with the overscan on the newer sets. There was a firmware upgrade on the hl-sxx87w sets in December 2006 and I thought that there were a couple of posts in this thread saying that with the newer builds the overscan setting was staying off.

3d HD ready. The HLT generation of Samsung DLP® HDTVs are capable of displaying future 3D games, movies and other programming via 3D compatible glasses and hardware. Models included are:

HL-T4675S
HL-T5075S
HL-T5076S
HL-T5087S
HL-T5089S
HL-T5675S
HL-T5676S
HL-T5687S
HL-T5689S
HL-T6187S
HL-T6176S
HL-T6187S
HL-T6189S
HL-T6779
HL-T5076S
HL-T7288W

notice the absence of the HL-T6756W listed in the August 07 Costco coupon but yet another 67" model the HL-T6779 which has no S or W at the end of its model # but the fact that it ends in 79 like the HL-S5679 makes me think that it will be an LED model like the 5679 but now 67".

prob for another thread at this point but since i mentioned ideally gettin getting a slimmer cabinet then current rp sets (lcd, dlpl and lcos) plus having LED light engine in one tv it seems Samsung is doing this with upcoming HL-T DLP models. Largest models seem to be 61" (HL-T6189S and 6187) "the set's slim depth lets it fit where others won't"

can't find exact depth spec to compare to current 61" samsung dlps though. I ideally want 65" - 70" but if Samsung is now making thinner dlp that are also led it may be worth waiting to see if they do one larger then 61". seems they have yet to even do a led set larger then 61" but maybe were waiting to make it slimmer at that size range.
The 6156 model at Sam's is the slim bezel with the hidden speakers.
