I just wanted to add my .2 and say that I got mine in Dec. 06 and it is still going strong with no issues. It has been a workhorse! I've seen the question asked a couple of times and I will reiterate, where is a good place to get a bulb? I feel I better get one to have on hand in case this one decides it's had enough.

I recently ordered directly from the Samsung parts online which is J&J parts. The cost with bulb and holder was only $129 plus shipping.

It came in a perfect match. Took me 10 minutes to install. I now plan on ordering one extra since I thought for some reason it was about $300 for a replacement bulb.

PS I accidentally hit the "factory reset" in the service menu when I was reseting the bulb hour meter. Does anyone know exactly what this might have done?

Picture still looks pretty good but not as GREAT as it did from the factory. I wonder if I am nuts??

Thanks a lot for the info. To be honest, I actually thought it would be a little less than that, like 85 dollars or so. Still, I am at 3.5 years on this one and still going, so it's still a small price to pay!

As for the factory reset, you probably reset the calibrations to the default settings (for a brightly lit store). Did you customize the settings when you first bought it?

After 3 1/2 yrs approximately my set is giving me the three blinking lights of Lamp replacement. I notice that it has dimmed and it will cut itself off after a while. I just ordered the new lamp from Samsungparts.com for 129.99 + shipping and handling came out to 141.74 total for priority mail. I found the pages I needed for the replacing the lamp and am eagerly awaiting my replacement lamp to get here to have my Sammy back to full health. This has been the best tv set that I have ever owned and I am glad I bought it after following the advice from this forum.

So I replaced the lamp and I am still getting the tv cutting off and then the three blinking lights of lamp failure. It is not making any noises and the picture is bright again and it looks better but it cuts itself off after a few minutes. Anyone have any trouble shooting ideas on what may be causing this? So once again if anyone has any help they can offer I would appreciate it.

So the repair shop has said that it was the color wheel going bad with my Sammy. I bought a new one for 78$ and getting it replaced now.

Like what you see occasionally in a real theater projector, I have what appears to be a big hair or something on the bottom of my screen.

Has anyone tried to blow out something like this using compressed air, or removed the whole bulb assembly to clean it themselves?

Did the color wheel fix the problem?

Yes it did.

Problem solved. Pulled out the bulb housing and blasted everything with canned air. Never found any debris, but it's gone now.

I am at 6500 hours on the original bulb. I can tell that it is dimmer. I have a spare bulb that I bought from Samsung.

I still love this tv.

Just saw an HL-T6756 (1 model year newer then the one this thread is about) that is isf pro calibrated and comes with an extra lamp on ebay currently for $56 with only one day left.

I recently started getting what I call artifacts on my screen. I have looked through the threads but could not find anything related. If you look at the left side of the forehead you can kinda tell that the colors are not blending.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully someone can offer me a little bit of insight.

My set just started having a similar problem to the others here...screen goes black, 3 lights flash indicating the bulb "might" be bad. Let it sit a while and it comes back on for a few seconds/minutes.

So, the bulb is probably fine, right? The question is this:

Is there any way to know if I'm dealing with a color wheel issue, or a ballast issue? I feel confident that I could tackle either problem, but I'd rather have some idea of which one I should order first...

Well, as expected. I replaced the bulb with a brand new Philips, and the TV behaves the same way...3 flashing lights after 5 minutes.

*sigh*

So, onto the ballast and then the color wheel...

When I had those problems, I had to replace the color wheel. Once I replaced the color wheel I have had no issues.

The TV is working...sort of.

No longer turns off, and it actually looks pretty damn good (still using the original bulb since it was fine). New ballast, new color wheel.

However! Amazingly enough, I'm now experiencing the color banding that was shown only a few posts above this one...

Any clues on what might cause that? It's like a posterization effect, almost like viewing a high-color image on a 256color display. It seems to only happen in darker areas of the screen. I didn't have this problem before the tv started turning itself off...

Still here, just have a monitor set up on this thread. Got this TV many moons ago at Costco and has been running ever since Still waiting for the bulb to die (knock on wood).

Still here - purchased my 6767 in June 2006. I replaced the original bulb about 4 months ago and what an amazing difference - can't believe I went that long with a dark picture.

BTW, ebay has new bulbs (with housing) for less than $50.

My TV is still going strong and I have had it since July of 2006. I have had to replace the color wheel and the bulb and that is it. A couple of hundred total for almost a brand new TV after the repairs. I have been very happy with this TV set. I hope the Vizio 42" 3D LCD TV I bought from Costco treats me as well as this TV!

I bought this TV when it first showed up at Costco. I was one of the original Samsung HLM-507w customers too. I HATE IT that DLP has all but faded away.....Tonight I finally had my DLP set fail. I went to my coat closet and pulled out the box of replacement parts I bought in June 2008! I pulled out the replacement bulb, and in 10 minutes my tv was back to perfect again. Incredible. I have to admit, I had been looking at the new TVs and thinking my Samsung DLP didn't look as good as I remember it. Uh, it does now! Bright and SHARP. Incredible picture.

By the way, my original HLM507 was sold to my best friend from high school who still has it, and it is still working perfectly. I changed the bulb once when I had it, and when I sold it to him I gave him the box with a spare bulb/color wheel/ballast and he has not had to use any of them.

I got my HL-S6767W at Costco too, and I loved it. I never unsubscribed from this thread. To date the best TV I have ever owned. Unfortunately my DLP chip went out (started throwing white pixels all over the screen). So I sold it on craigslist and got a 73" Mitsubishi, because as you point out... DLP is still the best technology out there... especially when you consider value.

I really like my new Mitz, but I still think my Sammy had a slightly superior picture. It's too bad the world cares more about how thin a TV is than how big of a screen you can get for a reasonable amount of money. At least there is still Mitsubishi. They are selling DLPs up to 92" now.

So, after nearly 6 years, we were watching tv and suddenly it went pop, all dark with 3 blinking lights.

I'm guessing the lamp needs to be replaced.

IS there a consensus on this form whether to buy the original part or an aftermarket? There seems to be a large price difference.

Good evening all. I have read alot of this threat and got one of these great tvs. So I have had it about a month and I still like it alot. Two questions I have are: Any ideas on a spare lamp; are the cheap ones worth it or just go with a good one? (I paid 125.00 for this working tv) Also I tried to find out the hours on the lamp and well I tried the service code and it did not work ...maybe I am entering the wrong code so I guess if anyone has the way to find out the hours would be a big help. I am using mine off an over the air antenna that I made my self and it has great picture quality.


A little about me .. I was a public school AV Tech when we had 16mm film and 35 mm filmstrips and 2" Sony reel to reel video tape machines. Now retired and into old cars and crazy boats.

I haven't posted on this thread in years. I've had this TV for Many Years of Trouble Free Entertainment! Purchased mine brand new from Costco. Even Though I Now have the Latest Top of the Samsung E8000 64" Plasma Also Amazing Display. I cant bring myself to get rid of this thing its that good with the Right Lamp.

So to answer our question it Makes A Huge Difference what lamp you use I have tried the So Called Better made German Lamps. The difference is Night & Day Pun Intended.
