Box dimensions:

68.1 x 24.2 x 49.9

I just barely fit it in my Sequoia. Any smaller vehicle would not work.

Equipment:

Toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD player - Better Cables Component Video Cables
Results:
I can't wait for Toshiba to enable 1080p on this player.Note:
Toshiba HD-A1 over HDMI does not work. This is consistent with other HL-SXX87/88 models which is more proof that this set has the same processor.

Yes it surely points to that they are very close or identical inside.
Do you really think the Toshiba can be upgraded to output 1080p? I strongly doubt it, but I'm open to the right evidence ...

Samsung is in the Blu-ray camp. I hope they can stand it long enough to work with Toshiba to fix the interface issues with the HD-Dvd player.

There is a "insider" that posts in the HD-A1 thread that keeps hinting that Toshiba will be releasing a firmware update that will allow 1080p/24. I can only hope.

The samsung site says the CR on the 67 is only 2500:1. Is this a misprint? as the 87/88's are rated at 10,000:1
post #66 of 1714
Box and Manual say 10,000:1 contrast.

Some higher res photos of the HL-S6767W stickers and box...

Can someone verify the actual width of this machine? I know it says 62.4" and I can only squeeze 62.1" - just hoping!

Well I admit, you guys had me fooled. I even stopped at Costco just to confirm what everyone is stating here, the great source of truth on the internet. What a dumb ass am I.

Things are not what they seem. All I saw a huge dumping ground for old, huge outdated 1280*720 screens for big bucks. Like a Sony 20 series for $3K. What a deal.
Luckily the Supervisor explained the real situation to me. The crystal ball was dark...

As usual it pays to be cynical and don't fall for the hype. I'll bet a Costco buyer just wanted to get deal on one for his own personal use.
reincarnate - Obviously the Costo you checked was not one of the blessed stores.

Our local Costo had three when Nevin bought his yesterday.

True, they do have some big, nasty sets for sale, but this Sammy definitely stands out from the crowd. I will get you the Costco item number when I get home and you can call and see which locations near you are carrying them. I had to drive 30 miles to find a Costco that had them in stock. There were about 10 other closer locations that did not have them yet.
Can someone PM me the price also thanks.
Looks like item # 116767 on my Costco receipt.

Dude - go away, you're making a fool of yourself. Ever stop to think the store you went to simply didn't have it? Only 1 Costco in my area has this TV and I'm hoping to get it tomorrow. You obviously have a bone to pick with Costco and this isn't the forum to get your jollies off. You are right about being a dumb ass though.

On another note, the manual that came with my HL-S6767W lists an HL-S6167W also. This may mean that Costco will carry a 61 inch version in the near future. Something to keep in mind if you have been waiting months and months for the HL-S6187/88.

can someone PM me the price please? I live in Boston, anyone have any luck finding one near here yet??

The supervisor told me that only the high volume Costco stores on the west coast have this display. There is a central Costco bias against the rest of the stores throughout the country.
This makes perfect sense as the only Samsung product in his computer system was a 23" model. He can usually see stuff coming in in the next 10-14 days. Zippo.

So this thread is highly misleading. The vast majority of the members cannot go to Costco and buy this display. Not one word has been posted here otherwise.
This fact is embarrassing. So dude I call the bluff and this my reward?

Now the real question moves on to if there are ulterior ulterior motives at work. This situation as nothing more than a bait and switch tactic to get more people into the store. Is there any relationship to how has Costco stock been doing lately?

Many AVS forum member have a lot of disposable income and are prime candidates for membership. Its all to easy to figure out "dude"! Kick me if I'm stupid.

You're all over the place - what's your point? You admit that Costco sells the 6767....the NEW HLS6767....with the new internals, 1080p inputs....yet this thread is misleading?

You've got too much time on your hands worrying about conspiracy theories. Look, Costco sells this TV, plain and simple. Maybe not all Costco's, but they're out there. What don't you get?

AVS members: this is not the first time employees of a company have led a marketing campaign to push their companies product (here it is Costco membership). Last year several HP employees used similar tactics.

A bit of the truth begins to finally come out:
"Maybe not all Costco's"
We are still not even close to accurately portraying the real situation.

I don't work for Costco - I'm not even a member (yet). Not sure what truth you're driving at.

I don't care what you think anymore because I really don't know what you're point is...all that matters is that hopefully I'll pick one of these up today. If I'm lucky, I'll post my review.

Adios reincarnate....maybe someone else (if they care) can explain it so that even you can comprehend.

Greetings,
I'll give it a try...I don't work for Costco either, but I do work for one of their suppliers, albeit not in electronics.
Simply put, the west coast is their dominant trading area in terms of market share, and specifically the state of California.
Merchandise allocations depend on a number of factors, including supplier availability, product segmentation, current inventory assortments, etc.
Their business model is pretty unique and in certain areas highly successful.
This thread has become pretty amusing since it is now so far off base as to be laughable.
YMMV.

reincarnate, if you would kindly leave this thread......

I did work for Costco, but left in 1999. Since then I have worked as a EE at an Aerospace company. I could care less if Costco does well or not. If this set was sold at other B&M's I would have just made this a general thread regarding the HL-S6767W, but since this is a Costco specific model, I have to state that. I will edit my initial post to remove any Costco bias.
To all those who have found something useful in this thread -- just ignore the irrelevant. Doing otherwise is irrelevant.
I called Samsung customer support. They said that the HL-S6767W was not going to be exclusive to Costco. This brand new set might be going to those stores first, but given time, it should start appearing at other dealers.
Could someone please pm me the price? Thanks!

edit: got the pm thanks.

I hope we can get this post thread back on track.....
I saw this TV at my local Costco (Dallas, TX) last weekend. I plan on picking one up within a week or so. I know that Costco is selling the stand with the TV, but i have to get wood TV stand as a compromise for my wife

What stands are you guys using for this TV. i'm a big fan of the Bush progressive stand, but it doesnt seem to be available for TV's over 62" inches.

thanks
Ummmm, I live in northern VA and I know the Chantilly Costco had 2 and the Fairfax had 6 -- we're about as far from the west coast as you can get... Anyway, I've been waiting for the Sammy HLS-7178 but this deal was too good to pass up w/ TV stand -- plus I wanted it for the US v. Italy soccer match this Saturday, so I just picked it up w/ a Home Depot truck rental and I'm typing this with the 67" monster on in the background!! Thanks for the quick heads up everyone! I wouldn't waste your time hatin' -- if you like the picture and know the product and have the money, just get it. Just call your closest store and they can look in the computer and tell you where the TV's are in stock and if they are expecting any in. btw, I used my in-law's Costco card.

Lickety, what mode and color tone did you set? Any difference for day/night viewing? Thanks.
okay, went to one in MA and they told me the allocation hasn't even reached their Virginia warehouse yet. The price seems good, BUT it is right in 60" XBR and HP 65" range if I also added stands/shipping. I know it has "7 on Sony and 2" on HP, BUT those 2 literally rank #1 and 2 picture-wise, and the HP is 1080p already. Plus, I assume they'll both drop in $$ after Labor Day, correct?

Cons: Cash or Amex, self-delivery, inferior pq(??)

Pros: Costco return policy, extra 2" (hey, I'm a guy I'll take what I can!!haha!!)

Anyone with any of these 3 sets have any advice since price isn't entirely the dealbreaker here?

Bigger is better. That is my advice.

dockt - Color tone is currently set at normal. Mode is custom. I have not viewed this during the day yet (working during daylight hours, 7a ~ 7p right now). You can see some of my settings in the first post. I will pop in AVIA tonight and do a better calibration. I will report back tonight.

Just picked up a 6767 at a Costco in Nashua, NH - that leaves only a display model. The stand was made specifically for the 6767, but I won't use it as I had a cabinet custom designed. But it looks very nice with the cutout for the pedastal base, glass shelves, black to match the TV. With the rate I'm going at work, I probably won't get to set it up until the weekend, so I'll have a review soon....the wait is gonna kill me.

So keep plugging, these sets are available.
