Images are 1024x768 resized and taken w/ only a Fuji 4mp camera. Also, the pictures are taken w/ photo mode in PGR3

You should try to take some more when its dark out to see how good the blacks are.

how in the world did you get that price matched? they are tellin me it has to be in stock at a local store?

Some of the stores are anal about that, but it often works because like circuit city, sears keeps all the VERY large tv(CRT RPTV's)in the warehouse.

Anyway it only saves you $25, you should just tell CircuitCity to **** themselves and buy it from Sears if they are gonna give you trouble.

awesome just got back from CC and dealt with a very nice employee there, contrary to the ones I talked to on the phone earlier, they were oos but are ordering one in on the truck should be here saturday....1197 OTD......so excited! thanks for recommendations

I find the SD upcomvert (540 or 1080) to be a bit 'soft' - anyone else think this or is it just me?

Since I am paying half what I paid for my Toshiba SD 50" about five years ago, I am walking on air. I can't wait to play with this toy!

I tried menu-menu-8-select and i could not get into the svc menu. Are you sure thats it? Tv on? tv off? :/ help!

EDIT: nm, my searches returned a "press input on the tv, then power and release at the same time." That didnt work So, im still lookin for a little help.

You cannot do it fast

When you first press menu wait for the regular menu to load, then press it again and make sure you do it firmly and hold it for a second, do the same for 8 and select.

This is the easiest method, mabey hitachi chose not to support this way on the new sets.

Well.... if anyone has any idea how to get into the service menu, and maybe has actually done it on a F59 series TV, give me a PM please!

ANyone have good (and cheap) suggestions for extended warranty for THIS HDTV... I have read the other thread but it focuses on other TVs and since this is a CRT and we do not care about bulbs and such...

I have heard that the Hitachi branded EW's are really good.

i got mine at cc when i purchased my tv. i had a panasonic pt-47x54j that i had before from cc with an ext warranty. well to make a long story short the tv had a problem with it and it could not be fixed. they replaced it / gave me store credit for the price i paid for the tv over 18 months ago. i then went and purchased the hitachi 57f59 with another 2 year warranty. i paid after my store credit for a new tv with 10 more inch of screen and a 2 year warranty for $120.00 i had to pay out of pocket. not bad since i get a new tv, 10 more inches of screen size and a two year warranty as well. so really i just paid the difference of having another warranty. hope this helps. i like cc warranty as i know it works and had no problems (it did take about two weeks to get it approved and then a credit0 but i'm not going to complain.

I'm thinking about getting the 65" but one thing that keeps worrying me is how get CRT's are compared to digitals for HD material. Every time I walk into the stores the CRT's don't tend to look that great. I know this is often due them not being set up properly, but it's all I have to go on. So what do owners think of the job the Hitachi's on HD when compared to digitals?

HD on a Hitachi CRT RP is Amazing. HD signals have rich, crisp , bright, dark colors. The best blacks for now (soon to change I hope).

well i say the hitachi f59 tv is as good as any lcd,dlp out now. the hd picture is awesome. standard cable looks pretty good and digital looks near hd on most channels. the reason the hitachi F59 tv doesn't look very good in stores is because it's not set up correctly. get the settings correct and it will look great. here are a couple of pic's from mine that don't do it justice as they have some glare, but show how good it can look. here take a look. http://img222.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ture0196ih.jpg http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ture0207yn.jpg the second one is why you have to love hd. the camera picture is not as clear as the real tv,but you get the idea!

The CC warranty was very price though... 350 or so. Too steep for what they were offering. If it came with a pro calibration it would be worth it to me

I'm not sure I even want one sine this TV should last me 2 years until I sell it and buy the next set... my toshiba lasted 5 years without a single issue... just sold it to get this one.

I expect the Toshiba (older sets) and the Hitachi to be higher quality then the panny crt rptv's were/are so I think I'll just stick without an EW for now.

Hello all, first time poster here. I bought the 57f59 based on all the talk on this site, so I registered and here I am. Question though. How the hell do you name the video inputs so they actually show the name you set it to show??? It has the menu to name the input1-5, but when you bring up the input menu, it still shows input1-5. BTW, this is my second set, the first one had a screen problem. I called the customer service twice. The first time they said my TV was an older model and it didnt have the cabability (WTF?). The second time they said it was the newest one and it sould do it. BTW, my dad has the older version from 2 years ago and his has the same menus, but his actually works.
Those video settings listed above gave me a slight pink tint on all my whites. Im still experimenting with my settings.

it's a little tricky, but i did it. you can't actually name it like larry's cable box if thats what you mean. it only names what the input is like cable , dvd, or vcr ect.. i have my dvd and cable box input and they show up when i select them. try reading the owners manual it helps a little.also if you hit the info button on remote it should show if you named it or not. good luck.

Ok this 51F59 sets is a complete POS, first of all ALL VIDEO is fuzzy, SD, ED, HD, i also have a spot on the screen where all the colors appear to be bleeding, WTF? I've had this set for 5minutes and its downright horrible, i should have never gave up my 51F710, these are very very bad sets and i do not reccomend to anyone! mabey i just have horrible luck but this is f'in BS

WTF! i think you either have very bad luck or your full of it. everything you have posted you have had a problem it seems. i'm not saying you don't ,but instead of setting around complaining get on the d@mb phone and call the store you purchased it from. tell them this is not exceptible and you want a another tv. tell them this is the second tv you have had with problems. maybe you just need to get a different kind of tv all together. either way they (the store you purchased from) should be kissing you @$$.

only thing a NEW set will fix is the spot on the screen that looks like the phospors got messed up on, its not going to fix the scaler in this set.

Anyway i feel bad because i keep making to 2 same guys carry 200pound tv's up and down my stairs

Well, I pulled the trigger and bought the 51" Hitachi f59 today from Sears.

$949 for the TV
$55 delivery
$489 for the 5 year warranty

I was going to get the 57", but it was HUGE and thought it was too big for my room - I am only 8 feet away from the TV, so I think it would just overwhelm the wife and I, especially going from a 32" TV.

Don't get me wrong - I was BLOWN AWAY by the SONY SXRD at Circuit City with the Hawaii feed, but not $3000+ more blown away.

Reason I went with the more expensive Sears warranty is that it is a much better warranty than CC or Best Buy or any of the 3rd party ones. The kicker was the once a year PM I get, where they clean out, adjust, tune up, etc. the TV - I am thinking that will perhaps extend the life of the TV quite a bit vs. no PM service once a year.

I was pretty impressed with the untweaked picture of the Hitachi in the store, though at Circuit City they had a bad feed on all of the RP TVs (except the Sonys).

CC was about $300+ higher, warranty wasn't as good or as long, and the 5 TV salespeople there ignored me to watch the soccer game on TV even though I told one of them I was there to buy today. Idiots.
