Searching for KOSS KS4102 firmware

Thread Starter
I have been searching for about three days now for the KS4102 firmware that is supposed to fix the digital coax time delay in the system. I have tried several email addresses, and phone numbers but none of them lead me to KOSS electronics. The firmware is supposed to be on the website but is no longer available. If anyone still happens to have that software or happens to know where exactly I may find it, could you please email it to me. Thanks.

I have two of these systems (cheapies for other part of the house and one in garage, main HT is Onkyo with Celestion speakers and Marquee 8500). Never had a real problem with them other than upgrading the fans. The purepath digital is nice... and sounds a lot better with some decent Klipsch 8ohm speakers (but not really loud). The std speakers stink. Single driver, fake tweeter, but then again, they were still in the original box where I found them earlier today, which caused all this in the first place! hehe.

I decided to fiddle with the HTIB for more than 5 minutes, I remembered there was an audio delay using the optical (and maybe coax) digital inputs. After a couple hours of searching while bored, I found a post pointing me to the "way back machine" website.

Also found a post by "Kevin Schaefer" on another site, and it looks like he has the firmware, and upgrade procedures all compiled into one ZIP file (via google cache before that too disappeared, and wayback).

I have yet to try it, as I found it 5 min ago, and it's late, but I thought I would post it here. If you get to it before I do, please post your results. I have two to mess up, and don't really care if they are gone, just doing it for fun.

http://www.kevinschaefer.net/upgrade.zip (please read last part of post before attempting)

I also found the user manual if anyone needs that. These units are nice for the money, and with any decent small speakers and average volume levels, sound good too (with powered sub). The stupid audio delay thing kept me from using it in the 2nd HDTV setup (it still only comes through the TV speakers . Supposedly this fixes or comes close to fixing the delay.

I have a KS4190, I'll post results tommorow... maybe. A file in the ZIP leads me to believe that it works with all three listed at the top of this post, but don't blame me if your HTIB needs to be buried 6ft deep after doing so.

There also might be an issue with VIDEO out after the upgrade, it MIGHT switch to component only, so if you don't have it hooked up via component, make sure you can from another input/tv if this happens.

**** PS: FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, once you upgrade the firmware from disc.... NEVER put that disc back in the KOSS, otherwise it wipes the flash clean... forever. Courtesy "swami" from another website. ****

Hrm yea, i've talked to schaefer earlier. He's only managed to grab the firmware upgrade for the 4190 and 51xx, and they are deemed working. But im really after the update for the ks4102, seems impossible to find however..

Thanks.

Well, I was looking around for your model number, and the archive.org still has info/files for the 3102, and maybe other models. In fact, KOSS seems to still be active in Canada,

http://www.kosselectronics.ca/koss/en/home/

Go to archive.org, and look up http://www.kosselectronics.ca/ for older versions of their site.

I even called the number and was given the number for the US KOSS support, didn't have time to check any further however. I guess KOSS Electronics is different than KOSS, and is restructuring or something.

Hi again.
Tried to look for it, but couldn't find anything for the ks4102 model.. I tried calling them too, however it directed me to some random hotline that didn't work.

Thanks,

Does anybody still have this firmware? I'm having no luck finding the upgrade for the KS4102

I am not sure if this a firmware issue post or not. First off, Vineet Singh's firmware link works. The system updates. just follow the directions provided. Here is a problem I ran into with one of these koss systems. Long story short, I had a nice theater system set up and bought a koss 4190 for a bedroom. I moved to a fixer-upper house which means no more theater set up for a while. I wanted to set up a temporary gaming room until I finish my basement and put my theater back together. I attempted to connect my xbox using an optical cable and I am not getting any sound from my koss system. I did a thorough troubleshoot as well. Here is my check list.
-Xbox digital out is on.
-Koss input is set to optical.
-Tried 3 known working cables.
-unpacking another AV receiver and plugged the xbox into it to make sure the signal was being sent.
I am wondering if the optical in doesn't decode the DD signal being sent from the xbox. . If anyone knows about this issue let me know. it is the old school xbox. not the 360.

Bump for a working link for the new firmware. The delay is driving me nuts, even with the speaker's distance setting to the max.
