Personally I'm going to buy a Samsung as soon as I can but I've watched about 30 hours of HDDVD and love it. To date it provides the best film based reproduction we have ever had in our homes. Perhaps BD will as well but I doubt it will be better PQ unless they have better source elements( not the formats problem). $hit ,I put in a disc walk down to my front row, take one sip of wine and the menu comes up. This is not a hardship. Could it be better ? I believe the answer is yes (hardware) but it is still hog heaven as I hope BD will be for me.

Unfortunately looks like this store is now officially sold out

Cheers...

Unfortunately, there are just too many identical reports to come in to discount this, it seems that each BB is only getting 2 players...that's one less than they each got of HD DVD players!!! Seems as though Samsung was blowing smoke, unless they stock up the CC stores better...here's to wishful thinking :(

Just keep an eye on the sales ads - they'll pricematch for 30 days.

What I meant to say is that they had exactly one to sell and they were supposed to sell it on June 25th. However, I paid for the one on their truck so they are sold out for awhile...I guess I was lucky. Unless more shipments come in, these stores won't have stock to sell on the 25th.

right, that is what you said...they are getting two players, one is for the demo and the other is for sale...with hd dvd, each got three, one for demo and two for sale.

Which leads me to the next question...how many BD movies do they expect to sell if there is one customer - me! and I have said I won't buy mpeg-2 movies

Yep, I can confirm that all Best Buy stores are only getting 2 total. One for display and one to sell. Nice one Samsung.

wow... HD DVD has 17 whole movies to choose from! Wow! That's a reason to adopt a format if I ever heard one. Oh... wait a minute... D-VHS has even *more* and is even *cheaper* than a Toshiba HD DVD deck. Guess we should scrap both HD DVD and BD and go get one of those instead!

:D

p.s. BD just luanched. Actually, it hasn't even launched at all! DUH! of course there will be more HD DVD titles around... for a little while at least...
Actually there are 30 HD DVD titles to choose from.

I just realized this is a BluRay thread. I'm pro HD whether it is BluRay or HD DVD. I've been waiting for discs with HD content for 5 years. This is very exciting.
Lets see some pictures!

Netlix shows that title as being shipped to me this week(I haven' received it yet) so I figured it was released. I have it on order with Amazon but I never checked to see when they were shipping it.

Has anyone noticed that too many threads turn into bean counting and nit picking. Anyway, I'm glad Blu-ray is out. But I do think a grand for a player is a bit much. Now we can see if it will deliver.

well, let's face it, there aren't going to be many/any casual buyers like there were for the HD-A1 when it came out...there is something psychologically daunting about one thousand!

Will the Samsung Blu-ray player (or the Sony and any others for that matter) be available at Wal-Mart/Target/Costco? You know, those types of stores?

Art hit the nail right on the head! These are great times for us HT enthusiasts. Some things DO need improvement, but that'll come, and for now lets kick back and enjoy our new sources of HD.

Maybe but when some people routinely make statements that are false it's in everyone's best interest to counter that with the real information.

Just got mine tonight. I decided to give it a shot, and you really had to know what you were looking for to find it. They had two at my Best Buy and they were way up top on the overhead rack. It was sandwiched in the middle of regular DVD players, and didn't even bother asking a manager or employee to grab one for me. I just got up on one of their shelves and pulled one down and off to the register I went!

I did look breifly before for some titles, but they didn't have any. Grrr.

I went to the BB in Sterling, VA and Leesburg today. They both had the Toshiba HD DVD in stock. I was able to pick up the Samsung Blu-ray at the Sterling store ,but no movies. Did not see any at the Leesburg store. Looking forward to comparing it to my Toshiba when I can get some discs.

Anyone convert TS to home made BD9's? I guess it's time to try as BD software is very very limited at this point.

Yes, because when he said 30, and it turned out to only be 29 or 28, that completely switched me away from HD-DVD. A miscount is a miscount, he was not bashing/falsifying anything.

Seemed to have quite a bit of mosquito noise around titles. Could be the disc. I might have to check it out with the HD DVD again.
Let's just get this thread back on topic, OK?

Phansson, since you were also a Toshiba HD-DVD player owner this is probably a dumb question, but were you running the Samsung at 1080i or 720p output? I can see how it would be natural to try it first at your Infocus' native resolution, but maybe the Samsung simply has crappy 720p conversion just like the Toshiba. I'm sure you already thought of this, but I thought I'd ask just in case.

Not to pick on you Ben, as several others have echoed similar sentiments. But what you all are really saying is; that a thousand bucks is too much for you. However for those of us CE fetishist, or those with loads of disposable income, not so. Whether something is overpriced is an individual evaluation. Would I pay $ 1800 (or $ 1500) for a Pioneer BD-HD1, yes. Will I pay $4.99 for a HD PPV from DTV, no. It's not about the cost, I prefer to rent from Netflix or to purchase DVDs outright. Thats me, I'll own up to it.
I spent $800 on a progressive scan DVD player when they first became available, and it was a Toshiba.:) And that wasn't even the flag ship model. The flag ship model was $1000.

well, i'll give you the benefit of the doubt, as you don't know me or my gear or maybe even my posts of fairly recently, like yesterday. i have plenty of disposable income and i dispose of it quite frequently and effectively on all sorts of 'toyz' since i live by the male motto, he who dies wuth the most toys wins!

but really, that is besides the point. i did not say that i couldn't afford to dispose of 1,000 (i did, as i posted yesterday, i have one on preorder from bb and am so impatient and impulsive that i am looking to find it somewhere where i can walk out with it) but that most people will not be willing to part with that much money for a ce device. so these things are not going to fly off the shelf beyond the small number of fetishists that exist.

and even still, yes i think that 1,000 for these 1G machines is too much, regardless of the fact that i can easily blow it...i spent that much on an 8 ft bean bag!

but in general i understand what you are saying, it just isn't an appropriate response to my observation which has nothing to do with the few elitists.

Was that meant for me? I was responding to DaViD Boulet who said there were only 17 HD DVD titles.

I sort of agree with you. My other problem is I have had recent bad luck with two Samsung HT/DVD systems. One I gave to my mother and a week later it completely died, the other I have at home and the audio works but the DVD player now shows eveything green. I may get a BD player but it won't be today.
