I had read compatibility with new releases using Java, such as the two POTC Blu-ray releases. Maybe something else as well, but I don't think Samsung is alone in not being very forthcoming with which firmware updates do what.

I think it was to address a problem with the stupid game on the POTC: Dead Man's Chest BD.

It sure didn't address any of the real problems like, some disc not loading every time and sluggish menus with some BDs.

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I'm using a BD-P1000 w/ a H/K AVR-235 receiver. I had the bdp hooked up via 6 channel analog inputs. The sound was great, but I was hardly getting any bass from my subwoofer. I've checked everything (wires, settings), and I'm only able to get bass when I use the coax digital output (in this mode, it sounds fine). When I enter audio setup on the bdp, I get the test tone at a normal level from all speakers, except for the sub. Also, bass extention improved drastically when I switched it to bitstream mode (still using coax for audio in this mode). I just got my HSU VTF-1 subwoofer today, so as you might expect, I'm itching to get everything figured out asap. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

please help: I just bought the Samsung 1200. I have it hooked up to the HDMI port on my Epson 1080 (full hd) projector. When I put in the disc of BEWITCHED, the only way I can see it is stretched to the 16x9 format. Even if I change the setup in the Samsung's options to 4:3 picture or even 4:3 letterbox, nothing changes. I then went and hooked it up via component, and it was the normal 4:3 picture. When I use the HDMI, my projector's display options (zoon, normal, ect...even auto) are greyed out. I can't believe that people who have a projector would have to have 2 different types of connections (HDMI and Component)....can anyone PLEASE help?

I am assuming you are talking about a full screen Bewitched the TV show and not that lame movie. I don't have either piece, but one easy way is to output 480p from the BD-P1200.

I am talking about the tv series Bewitched and any other 4:3 program, they all stretch to the 16:9 format. (I wouldn't work so hard at trying to make that Bewitched movie look good, hehe). I tried 480p and the other settings, and nothing changed. I've changed just about everything, and I can't do it on my projector because those are greyed out when using the hdmi source from the Samsung. As I said before, I believe something is wrong somewhere that should be showing this in the proper format or at least changing settings should. I have to now have to go, as things are now, physically, to the Samsung machine and press Component for it to work properly. The trouble is my one component input on the Epson is used by Dish Network...and the Epson has only one HDMI input, and that's for the Samsung.
Also, does this mean (if I have to go to a 480p output, which doesn't change the stretching problem anyway, that you cannot upconvert any tv series or anything to 1080p?
This has been a common complaint for the Samsung BD players. There is no option to pillar-box 4:3 CD content and this is made worse by most HDTVs not allowing you to pillar-box the picture when receiving a 720p or 1080i/p signal over component or HDMI. A fix for this is way overdue from Samsung as it detracts from this BD player's usefulness as an SD upconverting player.
I would say this should have been addressed from day one. We all have sets of tv series and alot of 4:3 material which we simply can't play without switching to component, and who has the time or inputs to add another source? I don't. Then you have to go to the player and switch to component as well. I hope everyone concerned is contacting Samsung, this is not something that should be delayed. Is it the same with the BD-1000?
I finally got my BD-P1000 back from Samsung (after 25 days) and guess what, it still has the same problem (goes to a black screen when loading most BD and completely freezes). I get to call Samsung tomorrow and talk to there higher level customer care center (forget what the guy called) because they are closed on Saturdays. He says I have more option this time because it would be the third time I have to send the player in but, he didn't mention what those option would be. Anyone have any ideas?

Richard, the problem is in the player. It has a major LFE Bug which essentially ignors you Sub. It is actually sending a signal to your sub its just that you have to crank it up to get sound from it. Then when you switch to TV or HD-DVD, you have too much bass. Samsung will more than likely never fix the issue which is a shame.

Time for firmware update 2.0! Actually I've noticed in improvement in the picture quality in the 1.2 upgrade. Haven't had problems yet, but then again I haven't played that many titles, being that I've bought mostly HD-DVD's due to the crappy PQ on the Samsung until recently. Guess I'll keep it for Columbia/Tri-Star and Disney related titles.

Can you point me to more information about this LFE bug in the BDP-1000? I don't recall ever hearing about that before.

I own a p1000 and what bug? bas is deep and loud via analog...
The sub needs a +10dB boost to be at the correct level when using analogue.

Read about it here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=748147

I upped the sub on my 5.1 analogue inputs on my amp so it doesn't effect my other equipment that are connected via other means.

i have a bdp 1000 with the potc firmware update and picture quality seems fine compared to a tosh hd-a1 . is the samsung picture quality really inferior to other blu ray players as people imply?
I think it use to be a few FW ago, not now though.

My PS3 and my FW updated BD-P1000 throw virtually the same PQ on two different 1080p displays.

Agreed. I recently sold my BD-P1000 and picked up a PS3 and the PQ is identical as far as I can tell. If I had an HDTV that supported 24fps, the PS3 may have an advantage, but very few people do.

On the audio side, I have noticed a difference in AQ quality. TrueHD support aside, PCM tracks do appear to be a little more robust on the PS3, but I am not listening side by side, so my mind could be playing tricks on me.

I have both the HD-A1 and Samsung BD-P1000 and I am delighted with both. The newer Samsung BD-P1200 Blu-ray player has done better with objective tests and depending on display might look better. I believe the same holds for the Panasonic and Sony players, but the difference is likely very slight or not noticeable with most displays. In any event, I am happy enough with the BD-P1000 to continue to use it as long as it works properly.

EDIT: I was complaining about Samsung, but I talked with them again, and we're cool now.
FYI- Best Buy has marked these down to $299 now. My local BB had 4 brand new ones for sale still.
...i guess since Samsung.com doesn't even list the bdp-1000 anymore, there won't be anymore FW Upgrades....

It's still showing on their download support page. I think they just deleted the home page that has information on that player, but will probably continue to support it for some time (hopefully). But with Samsung, you really never know for sure.

so i finally went nuetral. picked up this player at best b for $259. they had a clearance for this item, and sort of did an impulse buy. i bought casino royal with it.
its looks very nice, goes well with my samsung dlp 61".
the pq for casino was very good. not to impressed with the audio, have it hooked via optical, have not tried analog. loads pretty fast (faster than my a20)
have not downloaded any firmware, because have not experienced any issues, and not sure if i need to.....
also when i hook up via 5.1 analog i am just using the old standard red/white cables..?

and it will sound better than optical..???????
