It's only been 5 months since I bought it, and the website indicates the player is under parts warranty, but not labor warranty and wants to charge me $43 bucks to have the player fixed. I'm not really inclined to pay repairs for a product that never really worked in the first place. Any ideas?

I purchased an extended warranty for my BD-P1000 that covers parts and labor and mine was sent in for service. It was my goal to use the player a lot for a few years, but it isn't going to make it. I used it a lot for 10 months. I have received notification it can't be fixed and the purchase price will be refunded but I am out quite a bit for shipping a couple of times and the warranty price, but it is likely better than if I hadn't purchased the extended warranty. Since the 90 day labor terms are clear and common, I would say pay the labor and fix it, if it can't be fixed see if you are offered something worthwhile.

have massive problems to get "run lola run" and "ID-4" to play on my bd-p1000. firmware on the player is 1.5, tried 1.4 and it doesn't work either

anyone heard if a new firmware version is upcoming?

I don't own run lola, but ID4 took at least 10 times before it would play. The player will keep spitting out discs with the "this disc cannot be played" error, but if you keep putting it back in and trying, in general most discs will eventually play. It's just annoying because it really will take about 10-12 tries for many movies, and I doubt most people will keep trying to get that far in the process. Even after ID4 played, the player showed some difficulty loading the complex main menu - it's functional but sticky when browsing the options. Plan to spend about 20 minutes of disc-spitting-out-and-putting-back-end-activity and I'm willing to bet you'll get the disc to eventually play.

ok, thanks. that is just crazy. up until lola, my bd-p1000 played every of my 160 BDs without any problems. just these two don't work and it really gets on my nerves

I had a BD-P1000 for about 5 months. Overall it was an okay player. I had a few discs that would not play without trying 2-3 times. I had a few movies stutter on the video. I noticed a few issues when pausing a movie and then playing it (it would stutter for a few seconds, and sometimes even lock up). What frustrated me the most, however, was the lack of TrueHD decoding (and HD-MA). I sold my BD-P1000 in July and picked up a PS3. I could not be happier with the PS3 as a BD player. I have not once had a disc lock up, not play, freeze, stutter, etc. And it is lightning fast next to the 1000. I would recommend looking at a PS3 or a BD30 (although having an HDMI 1.3 receiver is a must for the BD30) if you are unhappy with the BD-P1000. Now that the PS3 supports DTS-HD-MA decoding it is the only complete BD player on the market.

It played fine on my player. I have firmware 1.5. Just wish I could get Independence Day to work though.

I've been striking out lately, I am Legend, Resident Evil:Extinction, and Dan in Real Life would not play. After a couple of tries, Juno did play. I keep looking for the 1.6 firmware update. May have to shop for a new player. I'm back to watching HD-DVDs.

To me it seems that recent disc have more problems. Some are not even BD-J related. Has there been some sort of change in manufacturing disc? I ask this because all of my disc made before 3Q of 2007 or so have no problems. DL, SL, BD-J all load fine. It might take a while to load but they do. Or changes in the firmware that broke the tolerances of reading or disc recognition somehow.

Has anyone been able to get Independence Day to play on their 1000? I've emailed Samsung 4 or 5 times and keep getting responses that skirt around the issue. I've been told they don't know of any issues with that title (yeah, right), contact Fox, or my player needs servicing. When I ask about any further updates, no response. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with this title.

The only problem i had with it were the menu selections...they took FOREVER to load. The movie played fine but i thought the PQ was sub par.

Anybody heard any word on a new firmware update? I'm dying for 1.6. Also, with 1.5 Spiderman 3 is pausing a lot. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I watched Run Lola Run last weekend on my 1000, with old firmware (1.3?).

Played fine. No problems at all.

I think this is just like the Toshiba HD-DVD players where you either had a good one or you had a bad one (player that is).

I doubt firmware is going to fix your problems, honestly. It rarely did for the Toshibas that were flaky. Or it would fix one disc and break another.

I would cut my losses, sell the 1000 and get another player, or just get a PS3.

I watched the first episode of Smallville (Season 6) Monday night. Player worked fine. Tried to load it Tuesday night and it wouldn't load. Tried at least 6 or 7 times. Still no 1.6 firmware, I see in the BD-P1500 thread that the 1500 is selling for $348 at WalMart. Bought one last night - wow, does it load fast. Course, I was probably use to waiting for the 1000 to load, but fail. I was planning on keeping both players, but I don't see an option to match the remote to the player - the remote turns both units on. Not sure what I'll do with the 1000, but I'm a happy camper now.

BTW - when did we start rating threads? 1st time I've noticed the stars.

Hey guys I've had this player for 20 months now and I'd say it's overall ok, nothing compared to the Blu Ray's out there now. The Blu Ray " Hairspray " won't play on the player. But I have a question for all of you. The player plays blu rays great, ( I only have a 1080i tv ) but everytime I watch a DVD I'll get about 2-3 pauses, ver simular to the normal pause when a DVD is going to the second layer. I'll rewind it to see if it does it again and it doesnt, so I know it's not the DVD's cause they all do it in this player.

Anyone else experience that with this player? Thanks guys, I've been waiting to ask this question to people who own this player.

A simple question I hope.

If I buy an Onkyo TX 605 will this player be able to pass DTS MA and Dolby True HD to the receiver for decoding?

Yes had HUGE problems trying to get it to play, took multiple cleanings and loading and unloading. When did finally play, all the adverts and trailers, logos etc played incorrectly with a split screen effect one third down the left had side. When the film starting playing it played correctly. Not sure if its a defective disc or not. Keep checking here for the wave of people with a BP1000 who can't play it, hoping its something that will be fixed with a firmware release.
