Just an FYI, I got a new 37" lcd for the bedroom and hooked the BD-P1000 up via component. BluRay's look awesome at 720p/1080i and dvd's at 480P look really great too. I guess this gets around the not-so-good upconvert (via component)? Anyway, this works out well because now I can get the Sony 550 for the HT (DTS-MA!!!)and leave this one in the bedroom since I have it plugged straight in to the TV (no AVR). I did get some 2.1 speakers that work nicely for a little better audio without all the hassle (plugged into headphone jack on tv).

I have Samsung BD-P1000....my player would not play The Ruins, Shutter or Doomsday....I have had these movies for a while now and unable to watch them...seems like Samsung takes forever to release the new firmware Ver.1.7...I am sorry I ever bought this player I know Samsung has been aware of this for a while now but it seems that they customer service is horrible...will never buy any Samsung products again....does anyone know how much longer it may take Samsung to release the new firmware?
Have you tried to clear the player's memory first (see the above posts)? That may help play the discs.

For tg5spd- get a chance to compare a DTS-HD MA track to the core 1.5 mb/s DTS track. You may question why you would want to spend the extra $$ to get a player that decodes DTS-HD MA.

Not sure how to compare the 2? I have an Onkyo 604 that works great at passing PCM so the 550 seemed to be the "magic bullet" for DTS-MA, and everyone seems to think MA will be the future of HD audio...I know I can hear a difference between the TrueHD tracks and DD on my HD-A2, I assume the same would be the case for DTS core and MA? Thanks for the reply.

FWIW The Ruins was a no go for me and Doomsday took about 10 tries to load....and then the movie was awful.

Guys, if you can swing it, get a ps3. I was in the same boat as you all...and I finally just got fed up with the player, so I sold it on EBay for $100. Ever since then, I got a 40GB PS3 (not a gamer), and I have not had 1 problem. I have played Doomsday, The Ruins, Cloverfield, and the list goes on and on. They all load with no problems whatsoever...and they load like regular dvds...super quick.

Replaced my POS Samsung with a $300 Sony. I'll never spend another cent on anything from that ****** company.

Just curious, which one did you buy?

I'm looking at the new LG BD3000 that's supposed to come out sometime in September. I hate that some many Blu-ray movies come out that have features that are only accessible to players with BonusView capabilities.

I just played Heroes S2 and all the disks work on my BD 1000. Although, I have been sweet talking the unit and building its self confidence.

I think you are doing more than just sweet talking your BD-P1000 to get those discs to play, I heard it lights up and rolls over on its back when you enter the room.

I had a heck of a time getting Heroes disc 2 to play. I got fed up and went out and bought a PS3. I'm not even really interested in playing games on it but it seems to be an excellent Blu-ray player so far.

I wanted you guys to see the transcript of a chat that I had with Tech Support at Samsung..this is not acceptable & it frustrates the issue even further. just thought you guys should see this....below is the full transcript.

info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Steve'
Steve: Hello, I am a Samsung Technical Support representative. How may I assist you today?

Andrew Griffith: Hi Steve, How soon will the new firmware update for the BD-P1000 be ready? i have been waiting for a while for this update...it's frustrating because I have blu ray movies that will not play.

Steve: Do you know what version you currently have?

Andrew Griffith: Yes ...ver.1.6

Steve: Ok, just wanted to verify. That is what I show as the latest version as well. Unfortunately, I do not have information when they are going to release a new version. Essentially, when they get firmware version they release it, we're never really provided with release dates on firmware updates for the bluray players.

Andrew Griffith: It's crazy I know that Samsung is aware of this problem...The movies I have that would not play are Shutter Forbidden Kingdom, Doomsday and the Ruins...I don't understand what's taking them so long, Sony and all the other companies has released they new firmware update & we are here just frustrated.

Steve: I understand, I apologize for the inconvenience.

Andrew Griffith: I don't want to have to waste money buying a new player, but do you know if there are actually planning to release an update at all?

Steve: I would assume they are, but that would just be an assumption. I don't have any official statement to provide that a firmware is being worked on or any release date.

Andrew Griffith: How do we the consumers have any idea of what is going on...there should be someone who is able to let us know....this problem is being highlighted in all the forums & it's giving Samsung a bad name...everyone says the same thing..no one can tell us anything about the new firmware update....should I buy a new player...because if there isn't going be an update we need to know, as these machines will be useless...there has to someone who can tell us something....

Steve: Honestly sir, we here at support are in the same situation. We are not given the information about if the firmware will be released and if so when it will be released. It's not as if we purposely hold out information on you, we can only provide you with the information we are given. I wish I had a better answer for you, but unfortunately that's the truth.

Steve: What I can do for you sir is make a note of the movies you are having an issue with and let our product support know. At that point we can get the movies in our lab for testing and forward the results to our engineers.

Steve: Are you having issues with any movies other than those 4 you mentioned?

Andrew Griffith: I understand your situation and I am not blaming you...but that does not make Samsung look good in our eyes...they should let you guys know something that you can relate to the customers....I am sure I am not the only one that has contacted you guys...the problem is we have nowhere else to turn....I can bet that none of you bought that piece of junk....I am sorry if I seem a little upset but I am....maybe someone from your company need to let the powers that be know how we feel...maybe you have done that already? Those are the only ones I have problems with it doesn't make much sense buying more new Blu Ray movies..I would just be wasting my money until there is the update for the firmware.

Steve: Once again, I apologize for the problems you are experiencing. What will happen is we'll get this movies here in the lab over the next couple of days for testing. We'll test them on the unit and see if they movies play back correctly and forward our results to the engineers that design firmware for the units.

Andrew Griffith: Thank you so much Steve...I know you can only do so much.

Steve: You're welcome, is there anything else I can assist you with today?

Andrew Griffith: No that's it...you take care & have a nice day.

Steve: You too.

Steve: Thank you for chatting with us. If you have a minute, please press the "close" button and fill out a brief survey and have a wonderful day.

Andrew Griffith: wiil do.

Well, my up-to-now reliable BDP1000 has finally started having problems with new releases, in particular Universal titles - first Doomsday and now Baby Mama. I can't get either of these to load... no errors or hang-ups, just a black screen.

I'll give them a chance to update the firmware again, because this has really been a good player for me up till these new titles, but I'm not going to wait more than a couple of weeks before getting something else.
I have been having the same problems as other users with some select new titles. Mainly Ruins and Baby Momma as of Tuesday. Neither will load gives a black screen and nothing else. I will give the FF hold a try, but I have little hope. Oddly 21 played just fine on my machine. It's kinda disapointing that samsung seems to be taking so long with firmware upgrades. In the beginning when I had a movie that would not play there normally was a firware available almost like they were actually testing all the new releases beforehand and knew a firmware update was needed. Perhaps because the machine becoming dated Samsung is not being very dililigent about having solutions for these playback problems addressed in a timely manner.

In the beginning of all this I was format neutral had an HD-DVD and a Blu-Ray and liked them both. I have to say I wish HD-DVD had won. I never had a disc that wouldn't boot, and probably watched a large percent that were released in that format. Toshibia actually sent me firmware upgrades via the mail whenever there was a new one (they even sent me one after they stopped making the units), or I could just download and burn, or via ethernet. It just seems really silly to me the money grubbin folks in the Screw-Ray association still don't have the format nailed down and we users are totally dependent on the vendor of our machines to be nice enough to keep up with all the changes. I'll tell ya none of the firmware updates have made any dramatic changes in the way, speed, or quality of the viewing experience. I think all the updates are just to keep up with the DRM changes so the studios can have their chance at our backsides too.

At this point I just don't know if I want to spend all those hard earned dollars on another player only to have it not supported because V2.0 is the rage. I guess if I do it will probably be a PS3, but seems silly to buy a vid machine so I can watch movies, but at least it's V2.0 upgradable.

Hate getting movies I can't watch, won't buy a blu-ray title until I've got it from netflix to be sure it will actually play in this stupid paperweight!!

Just my ranting two cents

For all my player still works, I agree completely about the spec nonesense. I saw the insignia blu ray player going for 199.99 today and almost bought it as a cheap upgrade to my BD 1000. It makes me shake my head that a 2 year old 1000$ Samsung can be easily outdone by an Insignia model that is a fifth the price.

Don't want to sound like a Debbie Downer, but don't hold your breath. It's been 3 months since the last update (which actually did nothing). Ninety percent of all the Paramount and Universal titles cannot be played on my player. If they do load (after about 20 minutes of waiting) and they do begin to play, they will freeze at various points and stutter. Most of the newer releases from other studios give the same results. Samsung support always gives me the same reply as yours. Finally got fed up and tossed this thing out and replaced it. I'm just amazed that they still have the nerve to keep releasing players.

My Samsung BD-P1000 just played Iron Man perfectly fine. In fact, it loaded more quickly than most other BDs.

I also have Firmware 1.6

I watched it on tuesday... Had no issues with my player. My first time checking it out also.. Pretty good movie. I have the current firmware running in my P1000.

Trying to figure this out! Are your BD-P1000's possibly later manufactured models with possibly different updated hardware installed?

Firmware 1.6 just doesn't allow "Iron Man" to play for me, or for other people I've been talking to on different forums.

For an expensive $1000.00+ price tag, not even being connected to the internet, the unit should still play the movie, even if everything else new on the specs can't be utilized.

Sounds like a possible class-action law-suit waiting to happen if they can't find a solution.

Same here. It's not my main player for a while now, but I had no problems playing Iron Man on my BDP-1000. I don't believe I even have the current firmware on it as it's been months since I used it. Then again I don't think i had any issues playing any discs other than Speed when it was my only player.

Don't include me in your class. I'll support Samsung's case (for a fee ).

I have the earliest model of the BD-P1000. I purchased it before they first went on sale.

Did you try the "clear the cache" trick?
I still haven't encountered the disc that wouldn't play (aside from a defective Juno from Netflix...the replacement played fine). There have been a couple that acted up until there was a firmware update, but to date, everything it's been asked to play has played. Iron Man included. Still, the machine is on it's last legs. It's a dinosaur on the audio side, mechanically it's one step removed from an 8-track player and it's pretty ugly.

I've been holding out for a machine that would do everything the format supports to replace it with, and that machine will be here the end of the month. It's the Sargasso of my electronic components for the P1000...the living room system.
