2007 Mitsubishi WD-XX73X and XX831 Owner's Thread - Page 5

Has any one tryied gammign on this set?? Is the game lag only a problem the Samsongs were having or is it a DLP in general. If it is in general how does the Mits fair in gaming and delay department.
Anyone know when the 732 series will be out, and about how much off the MSRP they might go for?

Thanks!
Oh! And are the full specs out yet on the 732 series. I was set to buy a Sammy 6188. Now, I think I had better check out the Mits 65732, after Pharma's post. Thanks, Pharma!

All that I'm aware of is the 2007 line up info (first post). The MSRPs are wrong as the WD57731 apparently sells for 2799 as an MSRP and not the 3099 that is listed in the lineup. Moving up to the 732 adds some nice features but the real spec you want is the Dark Detailer (I'm guessing it'll really help shadow detail). Maybe moving up to the 732 adds 300 bucks to the price (clearly guessing here). AFAIK even the entry Mits 731 has everything the Sammy HLS 88 has and more.

This thread has the 732 specs. You have to download them. Check out post 42.

Thanks for all the great info PBM!
I ordered the 65731 from BB yesterday. Delivery is scheduled for July 7th.
It was a extended warranty replacement for a JVC D-ILA (first gen. POS) so I have no idea what the original 65731 price was. Mitsubishi wasn't even on my radar until PBM started this thread and I had to make a decision because I ran out of time on the exchange. The BB guys were very helpful and even gave me the option of returning the JVC and waiting for the Sony TVs but I didn't really want to be TV-less for who knows how long and based on the posts here it looks like the Mits may suit my needs better. I really like the 1080P(?) DVI input for my HTPC!
If your wondering about the JVC... First two returned in Oct. 04 dead power supply and stuck pixels, third had geometry, CA issues and now I am seeing the neon purple spot during some dark scenes. I've had the light engine replaced once on this set and as expected it made it worse. Normally my wife is very much against extended warranties but due to a old sign error I was able to get it on the JVC, thank God I did.

BTW BB didn't show any of the new Sony TVs in their system yet.

Are the inputs 1080p, including the HDMI?
Where did you get your TV stand, Pharm? I'm going to wait for the WD-65831 now and your stand looks great and will fit it great. Thanks for the great review as it has been REALLY helpful. Sorry to hear about your rainbow problems. Hopefully you can make adjustments and it will solve itself.

Acourding to the data sheet the HDMI suppport 1080p but the component do not. It seems all the digital inputs onthe TV suppot 1080p and the analog do not.

Here is a mirror site of Mitsubishi's website with the new models:

http://mitsubishitv.jazel.net/j/i/18326?cid=386

I do believe the Darker Detail feature is comparable to the SXRD's dynamic Iris, so this would be the model to compare

Quote:

Dark Detailer
DarkDetailer is a Mitsubishi exclusive technology that uses a dynamic aperture system to add depth and texture to the picture. Dark Detailer improves contrast ratio by more than four times, giving you a wide array of colors and shades that are essential for optimal viewing of dark, dramatic scenes while also providing maximum brightness.

hijammer,
That was one of my first questions as well. Pharm said he is going to get an XBox 360 and PS3 to test with it and quite his day job... ok maybe I'm paraphrasing (he's not a gamer)... he did mention maybe getting a PS3 though, so we may have to wait on that answer.

I hope that you're very happy with your purchase. Good luck! And yes, the DVI input is 1080p!

I got the stand linked below (that price is wrong, you can get it at least a 100 bucks cheaper and with free shipping). I bought the stand way before I got the TV and I wanted to get something big enough. It's 63 inches wide so it accomodates a big TV. But the key is that both shelves have 8.25" of clearance. I needed 8+ inches on the top shelf in order to accomodate my center speaker and I wanted it to be up off of the floor.

Yep. I don't think the components not accepting 1080p really means jack. If you have something outputting 1080p, you want it to go through HDMI anyway, I would think.

Sorry but someone else is going to have to test the gaming. The good news is that a lot of stores will let you bring in your gear if they think it will score them a sale. If you walk in somewhere and they don't, just try somewhere else.

If you can wait for the 732 series and cost isn't an issue, this is a feature I'd like to have.

I saw this article...giving some speculation into the pricing, detals... etc.

http://www.hdtvexpert.com/pages_b/Mi...2006_HDTV.html

So the 732 should be about $200 - $300 more with black gloss. Definitely a worthy upgrade from the 731.

That would likely be worth the cost, although the only feature I don't have that I want is the Dark Detailer. I will be interesting to see if that makes a real difference.

pbm,
It is starting to sound like you might keep the TV... are the rainbows becomming not so noticable or is it finger-nails-against-a-chalk-board bad and it's deifnately going back?

It's too early to decide for sure. I'd certainly like to keep the set but the RBE was nasty in high contrast scenes in Gladiator. This is really one of those "see it for yourself things". My wife didn't see one rainbow the entire time and couldn't be happier.

I guess to sum up my RBE experience (I don't want to rag on the set over and over when any DLP would have done this)

1. If this is your first DLP HDTV you aren't going to be able to tell if you see RBE in a store. I have spent countless hours in stores looking for RBE and never seeing it. You're going to have to buy or hang out at a friend's house to know if you see RBE for sure.
2. If you see RBE and that has stopped you from buying DLP before, this TV is NOT for you. Either wait for a color-wheel free LED set or buy LCOS/D-ILA, plasma, or LCD
3. RBE was only noticable in high contrast scenes (basically dark scenes with white light) found in movies. Haven't noticed it on TV or DVDs of TV shows
4. If you see RBE, it's a personal call to decide whether or not it's too annoying. I haven't made up my mind at this point.

I have a set from last year and I found things like the Sharp edge to be useless, but dark detailer is important IMO. I'm not sure if I want to go with this set or the Sammy.

Same here. I had the JVC (POS). Was junked out this week. The only difference is I have ordered the HLS6187W. July 5th delivery for me. I will keep a close eye on this thread. If the Sammy doesn't do it for me I will check out the Mits. That is if they allow returns on junkout exchanges. This does sound like a great tv. Only thing is I do see rainbows. I guess its better to deal with them than have the same issues with the Lcos tech (Sony or JVC) I just came from. When its black i want black. Not geen or blue or purple.

Thanks for the info on the new Mits.

I would like to know if there is any lag while gaming on these sets. If anyone has a chance to try it out please post. That would be most helpful.

I just saw the mitsubishi WD 57731 and it was simply beautiful. The only other TV to match the PQ was an older JVC (720P) and it was the only other tv to match the 731's brightness and PQ. I was surprised when the salesguy told me the JVC was 720P. The JVC was showing the streets of italy HD clip and was really very sharp but i liked the design of the 731 much better. Both these tv's made the Sony SXRD look a bit dull in comparison.
