Thanks for the thoughts. The main thing I'll be trying to do is get rid of noise as that's why I didn't get the Samsung already so I'll do what you suggest. Any other suggestions as to tweaking the picture from the out-of-box settings?

Tv will be here btw 3.5 to 5.5 hours... (10 am to 12 pm AZ time)

It'll be at least an hour until I get it and even then if I post anything it'll just be pictures of the chassis... I'm probably going to watch DVDs most of the day (don't have Cox HD yet), play with the settings, etc before I make any judgements. If the Sammy HLS sets are any indication, out of box settings can be expected to be poor so I'll be tinkering a lot.

I went to UE and BB Friday 6/17 and had each look up the
65731 in their computer system.
(UE actually had 57731 on the floor but terrible feed)
His computer showed 30 for delivery on July 3rd already had
a sales price listed putting it at just barely over 3 grand. WOW!
I'm in St. Louis so surely they should be poppin' up on the east
and west edges by then if not sooner....fyi

The price is ridiculously cheap for the feature set. It almost seems too cheap - I felt like I was stealing the TV from them

The default settings had too much color saturation for my taste. The picture was too bright as well. I asked the sales person, we changed to Movie mode and the PQ came right in line with what I prefer. Calibrated, I think this is a winner. If you give it a thumbs up, I expect to buy this set. Hopefully, I'll get them to throw in the stand for the sales price as 3 stores would be competing for my business and all share the same OneCall price.

I'll probably take some shots of the set today and then post initial thoughts tonight or tomorrow...

That brings a question to mind...how do you calibrate a 6 color palette? DVE and Avia still utilize RGB calibration.

Ahh finally got it, the names were screwy, you have to rename #3 to "mits3.zip" then you have to rename #1 to "mits3.z01" and #2 to 'mits3.z02"


Jesus dude the TV looks awesome, the bezel is so freaking thin.

The only thing I'm interested in is picture after picture of different movies and even standard def TV. pbm mentioned he doesn't have HD yet, so we can't ask for that, but I'm always most curious about "how does the TV do with real world content"

And yes, the noise issue is a curious one as well. That room also looked like it could be a lot brighter (open the blinds maybe?) and see how it still looks?

I think about 20 photos overall would be awesome if you had the time. I can host them on box if that's easier.

Initial thoughts... need to watch a few movies and tweak some more before I comment too much

The Good so far

- form factor (did you see the picture of me holding a quarter next to the bezel?). Amazing.
- no weird HDMI issues, it just works
- quiet as heck
- specs indicate the set accepts 1080p in 24hz, 30 hz, and 60 hz over HDMI

The Bad so far

- no optical out is irritating to me (!)

This is exciting for me too! Can you talk about the PIP? Is it a 2 tuner built in PIP? I guess it takes a cable card to if you dont want to use a cable decoder box?

Ok, I finished watching Gladiator. I'll be sending the pics to RSK after some dinner to post.

Impressions are positive but I did see a lot of rainbows (wife saw none). I would recommend checking out the 2007 Mits as they seem a LOT better than the Samsungs that I saw.... more later

I just saw one of these at Howards in Southern CA and it did look very good(WD 57731). It was next to last years 73 and looked a lot brighter and less noise. A bigger screen, the 73 is huge, could account for some of the noise. I tried to compare to the SXRD but it had a different feed. The Mits looks as bright as the LCDs, brighter even.

TV looks great! Where did you get the matching base? I'm not sure to get a 65731 or wait for a 65831. I have no idea when the 831 is coming out and how much better it will actually be.
