So, just so we're clear. His 57831 and my 57732 won't do PAL?

If You live in Europe, the UK or other places they have PAL, You and I only have ATSC and NTSC tuners built in since We live in the USA, the US, Canada, Japan and maybe a few other places have NTSC.

So picked up a new 73733 at BB recently, orked fine for a little while, however lately I am getting lines mostly white or more visible on white color that are 1" apart running vertically, across the screen. occurs in both satellite and DVD mode.

Otherwise wife is very impressed.

Any help please.

No, I'm talking about hooking up a PAL DVD player (specifically a LG BH200) and having it input PAL to the unit--not OTA stuff.

Thanks....

You'll have to try It and see, As I don't have any idea about that, For a definitive answer You'd have to ask Mitsubishi about this.

Is there any written procedure how to get to the lens for cleaning. If its not too difficult I might opt for this instead of fighting MTS for my 3rd light engine replacement.

Yeah, it would be very helpful for those of us whose warranty has run out.

I have a pdf file use at your own risk if you fubar your set I am not responsible.
I have done several and they all had this problem.....but once again do this at your own risk!!!! Not an official Mitsubishi repair! Will void your warranty!
If this works for you and you're really happy I just know you'll send me a gift!

NOT!!! LOL

Thanks for the procedure, but how hard is it to get the light engine out of the unit? I've replaced the lamp inside the lamp unit, does the light engine come through the same opening or will the entire rear cover have to come off the TV.
Yes the back panel has to come off. You should get the service manual for disassembly. I can do these in my sleep but then I've done quite a few. You will have to do a mechanical alignment after doing an R&R of the light engine.
I would suggest taking the directions to your local Mits repair shop and ask if they would consider trying this repair.

I have a 65731 that I bought in the states and the LG BH200 converted to PAL and I have no problems. I also have an old Samsung DVD player converted to PAL playing with no problems.

I hope this helps

HH Gregg periodically advertises discounts on the 65" 1080p DLP sets. The cheapest price I've seen is $1650. They don't specify a model number but its the xv color and HDMI 3 inputs (perhaps 1.3). Could someone please give me an opinion if these are a buy at this price or should one wait for the new Laservue sets. If it depends on the model, what model would one look for. (I doubt it's a Diamond line product).

I tried it with my 57732. It was jerky playing 1080i at first. I then got greedy and went for 480/576. I got a blue screen suggesting nothing was happening. No dice for me.

Good to read that it worked well for you--same player, too!

Two questions:

1. How do you get rid of a input that is listed, but not in use? It shows up in the input list, but NOT under the edit input screen, it is greyed out.
2. How do you reset 'Net Command'? I keep on getting that annoying message to reset it with the remote control for some unknown reason.

Do you have the line running directly into the TV or do you have the HDMI going in through a receiver?

That's the only thing I can think of. I have my line running directly into the tv via the DVI port (The HDMI ports on my TV are already maxed out. I convert the HDMI output from the BH200 to DVI and use the DVI in port on the TV). The only problem using the DVI port is that the TV thinks the BH200 is a computer and I don't have all the picture adjustments. But I have been able to play all region SDDVDs either PAL or NTSC without any problems

The HDMI cable is removed, it is not used anymore.

I talked to the local MTS repair shop for help and they act like I'm talking nonsence and the only way to recover the picture quality is a new light engine; so since your reply and this shop input I've been looking for a copy of the service manual with no success, any idea where to look. Is there maybe a PDF copy to be obtained somewhere?

Add me to the my 'Lamp' just died list! I have a WD-57831, purchased on 11/26/07, installed on 12/5/07, Lamp died on 07/05/07, Lamp life = 7 months, 0 days. This is FAR short of the 10,000 hours that is quoted. I did submit a claim to for a warranty replacement through Mitsubishi, and they claim it should be shipped to two to three days.

I have tried to go through 290 pages of this thread to get a gauge on how long the Lamp should last, but most people here seems to get far less than 1 year of usage, at $250 for a replacement Lamp this TV is going to get very expensive. I searched ebay and other sites and can get a replacement Lamp (Lamp only not the cart.) for approx. $180 shipped which is a little better but still makes this TV a consumables Hog!!!

7 months, but how many hours??
It's in the SM, the 2470 menu, 1st screen. Just don't push enter when "Initialize" is highlighted.
I can't access the Service Menu(I don't even know how) until I get the new Lamp, but I estimate about 1,600 hours Max (based on 210 days X 7.5 hours per day, and this is an over-estimate.)
There are plenty of posts in this and other Mits threads on Service Menu access. Do a search.
I found out how to access the 'Service Menu' and I will get an exact count, but as I stated I feel as though the Lamps are not lasting anywhere near the claimed 10,000 hours. Even if I left the TV on 24 hours a day at 7 Months it would only have 5,000 hours on it, which as I stated it get approx. 6 to 7 hours a day usage (and not every day at that level)

Mits just replaced the light engine in my 57732 (7 months OUT of warantee...thanks Mitsubishi!!) which fixed the halo on my set. Is this "residue" something that is present as part of the manufacturing process? Was there just a bad run? Or is this something that I should expect to show up again with this new light engine? Thanks for the info!!

docangle; Just so you know, you aren't alone with short lamp life. If I remember correctly, there has been at least two separate class action suits with other manufactures regarding short lamp life.

bpoore; Please read through the thread. It's well documented. The latest is it's the lens assembly that gets the dust buildup, not the whole light engine. Why Mits is changing out the whole assembly is beyond me if this is true.

I realize this....now. That's why I'm asking what I'm asking. Now that I have a new light engine, should I expect the problem to pop up again?

I'm also curious if my newly replaced light engine will bloom again after 6 or 7 months like the first one did or has Mits done something to reduce the problem?
You can hope for the best but honestly it will most likely come back. I went through three light engines with the same problem before Mitsubishi decided to replace my 732 with a 736
