I do not know what the specific issue is with the lamp (whether it's a lamp problem or a system design problem), all I know is my original lamp failed far sooner (3515 hours) than it should have. In what little research I've had time to conduct, I find that I'm not alone...and it's not just a "few" - seems like almost everyone's lamp is failing prematurely.
When I pulled my lamp cage I saw that the little mesh screen was pretty heavily matted with dust & lint. Okay, obviously that impairs the airflow to the lamp. However, if it's an airflow problem shouldn't the system have detected that fact and alerted me?
Now I hear that Mitsubishi has extended the warranty on the temperature sensor to 3 years. WTF? Does that mean that the temp sensor might be defective? If so, where does that repair take place, in the home or do they pull the guts and head to the shop with it?
Several folks said I was nuts for buying an ext'd warranty. Actually I bought two EWs, one to cover the TV itself and a separate one to cover just the lamp (since the lamp was excluded from the TV EW). Looks like I wasn't so nuts after all. (I've been down this road before. My present 65732 is in fact a 'gift' from another EW company)
