2007 Mitsubishi WD-XX73X and XX831 Owner's Thread - Page 33

Okay, finally saw the 731 (57") and it was set up right next to a Sony 60" XBR1; They could not have had them any closer; Frame to frame!!! Here is my observation: From approximately 3 feet and closer I could notice pixilation on the Mitz but very little on the Sony, but beyond 3 feet it was a wash. The feed to both sets was HD from local cable provider. Both tv's had awesome pictures but I thought the Mitz had better blacks and natural colors...in fact the Sony had slightly gray blacks compared to the mitz...I did not try to adjust the settings so who knows. I tried to look for RBE's and could not see any on the Sony but with extreme attention to fast moving objects on the Mitz I could see them but it was only when I was looking for them, such as watching finger tips on a fast moving hand!!! (My wife could not see them under any condition). Watching the whole screen I counld not even notice them (RBE) and it was not a problem for me; Not sure what the big deal is unless you are a perfectionest? Another interesting thing that occured was my wife said the Sony looked a little green??? Now she has never heard of the green blob, nor does she have an interest in audio/video, but she is an interior designer and knows colors...after she mentioned that I started to notice the green. And it was quite noticible compared to the Mitz. If fact I started to compare it to other TV's in the store and it was quite apparent. Like I said, I did not try to adjust the settings on any of the TV's so who know's what could have been with a little adjustment. But I do know we were totally impressed with the Mitz 57-731. If it were not for the 65-732 coming out at the end of the month I would order the 731 today, I'm just afraid of buyers remorse for the dark detailer for the few extra dollars. Hope this helps...

uhhhh....like who cares what it looks like from 3 feet!!??
Three feet was the point at witch pixelation was no longer a factor between the sony and the mitz. I was trying to convey that this was not an issue with this tv as far as I could tell. I did not expect someone would actually think I was suggesting they sit three feet in front of theTV?

Good observations, this is what I saw as well in Best Buy before I bought my 65731. I just saw Chronicles of Riddick in HD, man what a fantastic set. The little pixelation completely disappears in high quality sources such as HD, so it's not an issue at all to me for in the end this is all I care about. I'm still debating 732 or not.

I can not find WD-65732 on Mitsubishi web site. Does any body knows where to get the specs and compare with WD-65731. What is the difference?

if you click on the 731, in the lower left it will show alternative choices and the 732 will be there. Click on it and it will take you to its page.

I wasnt thinkin you suggested for someone. I was thinkin thats how you watched TV. If thats the case, cant you just get a 19" and get like 6" from the screen to get an equivalent 65" dia. I guess the pixelation is to bad to work for you.

Hasn't Sony big-screens been off-and-on reported as slightly soft in comparison to Mits and Samsung? That's been my observation...the Sony screen appears to me a little different in reflectivity or texture too, which might have something to do with it.

I'm particularly interested in the 2007 Mitsu models as well. I have created a spreadsheet comparing the different models from Mitsu's website. Please free to ammend the spreadsheet as you wish. Please change the file extension from .doc to .xls before opening (can't upload Excel files for some reason).

BTW you can browse mitsubishi's website by changing the cid=388, 386 etc. The pages are still there only the links have been removed

I just got back from a local dealer who has the Sony 60" SXRD KDS-60A2000 and the Mitsubishi WD-65731 side-by-side. I spent approximately an hour and 15 minutes with both televisions watching both National Geographic HD, ESPN2 standard definition (tennis match) and a DTS demo disc that they had running briefly when I first walked in.

The Sony was brighter but what I noticed was an over exaggeration of colors. The show on Natgeo HD was about some guys searching for waterfalls. Much of the screen was woods, rocks, natural landscapes, water, etc. In pictures where the landscape was standard earthy fare, you clued in on the bright yellow shirt of one of the guys in the show as well as brightly colored ropes, backpacks, etc. The guy was wearing a canary yellow t-shirt and what I saw was that the Sony artificially put a fluorescent hue on the shirt. There was a scene where they were climbing down the side of a hill and the rope used was a flat red and again the Sony again tried to make the rope look fluorescent. The Mitsubishi looked natural and where it really outshone the Sony was on the faces of the people in the show. The Sony was pushing the redness in cheeks, while the Mitsubishi's skin tones were natural and more detailed.

On the DTS demo disc, they had a scene from LOTR-Twin Towers and the blacks on both sets looked very similar and I couldn't really say there was a winner there. I would need to spend more time comparing the two with something like Underworld or similar being played.

I did not see any rainbows on the Mitsubishi and I was sitting approximately 7 feet away from both sets. I did go into the settings of the Sony to see if they were jacked up and they were not. I did move around the brightness and contrast settings a bit to see if that improved the colors in the Sony and it did not.

Based on what I saw today, I prefer the Mitsubishi. I want to see the WD-57732 with the added dark detailer feature when it arrives at my local dealer.

Okay, let me get this straight. I post my observations because that's what I thought this board was about. And you reply with a sarcastic response; Why respond at all if you have nothing constructive to add? Then I post a clarification, which it looks like you took personal based on the above response? Not sure what your agenda is but I know one thing, you apperantly enjoy dishing it out but you can't take it! Insecure?

If I get not sound I will give Mits a call on Wednesday to see if there is a fix.

OK my HDMI will only work if I go directly from my DirecTV receiver to to the TV. It will not work if I run it through my Pioneer Elite 74Txvi. Guess I will need to call Pioneer and find out what the problem is.

Did you get 3 feet from the TVs? And if so, what was your impression. Some subscribers here like it in the 1st row.

Any updates on when the 732s should arrive to stores? I have not gotten any response from the many requests for contact I have entered on the Mitsubishi site.

Thanks Mike. My wife and I noticed the same thing with the Sony 60" XBR1 compared to the Mitz 57"

How would you compare SD between the Mitz and the Sony?

No, who in the hell sits that close but little kids who are also playing with their toys? My sofa is 10 feet away from my Pioneer CRT HD-RPTV, which is where the next display will be.

Honestly, the SD content I was viewing was a tennis match on ESPN2 and there weren't any vibrant colors. Bland colored tennis court, players were wearing white, etc. I was mainly looking to see if I could see rainbows in the Mitsubishi because it was a sporting event.

How many times are you going to ask this question? {If I only had a Brain - Scarcrow, Wizard of Oz, Playing in the Background} The general answer is mid to late August. They will arrive when they arrive...do something else until that happens! Crawl out of your basement and see the sun! See your shrink! Collect rocks! Drill a hole in your head so you can insert the rocks! But please stop antagonizing people on this forum with mindless posts!

I did not want to stoop to his level but I needed a good laugh...

Just want to say I love this TV. Anyone have any other settings they would like to post? I am trying to find a good setting that reduces pixelation on background objects during motion.

One thing I noticed of all DLP's, (the least on the mits) is when watching nascar, when the car goes in front of the camera that looks through the protection net, the tv seems to lose focus on EVERYTHING and the whole car/net turns to pixels. I watch a lof of racing, and this is very bothersome.

I noticed that the more I played with it, the worse it got.

any help? thanks.

Over the last month or so I've compared the Sonys, Samsungs and Mits and while each are slightly different, I couldn't really say which was a clear winner. It came down to price and personal preference. If I'd gone another way, I know I'd be just as jazzed. Hopefully, my expectations will be exceeded.

thats a good distance. But I was asking for a friend, who like to sit in the front row, but is accutely sensitive to pixelation.

^^I often am about 3~4 from my TV, whenever I play video games at certain times. I also get real excited during certain sports/movies and jump up and run real close to the TV yelling at it the entire time. Reasonable (yet odd) question. The sarcasm and offensive language was not called for.

[quote=cbm2006]Hey Teach,
I enjoy your postings very much. Thanks for sharing as much as you do.
I would be very appreciative if you would share tips for getting a good deal on an HDTV as well as a good audio set up. I am still watching a 27" Mits that I bought so long ago that the VCR I bought at the same time was $800. I have not had one problem with this TV.
I currently plan to get a 57732 when they come out.
I live in Houston and would like to buy one locally for the local support.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance for your time.
