That SM display looks pretty harmless, don't see why they won't release that to us. Hope they do.

My new set is a 1.11 (11/29/2005), and it does not have the little Genesis logo in the System information display. Does anyone know what is up with that? I don't think my 1.16 had it either. Are there diferent VPs out there, or just not displaying? Should I try to return and get one with the Genesis? (ugh, I hope not, this new set seems to have a better PQ!)

Could someone explain to me why all the screenshots show the resolution as 1920*540?

From what I have been told, 1080i is actually 1920x540 at 60fps. The set displays the resolution of the incoming signal, so it shows it like that. The set deinterlaces it and displays at 1920x1080 at 30fps, I think. So, 540 is correct - don't worry, the Westy is not cutting down the resolution of the 1080i signal (that is what I thought at first) . You will also notice if you feed it 480i that it will show it as 240. When you feed it 1080p (currently I can do that only through my computer) it shows 1920x1080.

Anyone know what the beal with Best buy is?

What's going on with the crazy price slashing on this TV? Why is it now out of stock online and not available for delivery, but still available at a few local stores? Anyone got any clues? I'm just about ready to buy but don't want to if this TV is getting discontinued or a major model revision is coming out.

Aahh (sigh), finally we can talk again! I felt like if I was in timeout for behaving badly. Anyways, its funny to see that all those people that were "on the fence" a couple of weeks ago waiting to see if the Westy would drop further in price are now pulling their hairs because they can't get one. I had originally purchased the 37w3 and returned it during the BB Saturday super sale and then purchased a new 42w2 that they had in store (they had three left but are sold out now) for $200 less than I had bought the 37w3 for. I also got the Extended Warranty for $100 less than I paid for the warranty for the 37w3.

After having it for a couple of weeks, I could definitely say it was well worth it. I've been watching the NHL and NBA finals in HD (OTA). I also have the Directv HD package. Banding is very minimal but most noticeable when watching HD Soccer. I have minimized the banding by turning down the backlight to 20. I also don't like a very bright picture so by tuning the brightness and contract, this helps too. I've had about three lockups and this only happens when you try to turn on the TV not when you're watching. I unplug and plug back in and then it works.

All in all, I am very satisfied with this set and although it has some issues, they definitely do not warrant returning/exchanging it. I would probably have to pay three times as much to get a different brand TV with a similar size and similar PQ.

Now if only I could upgrade the FW and access the SM.

It appears that the LVM42W2 converts all incoming signals to 1080 (Is this correct?). If that is true, then if I feed it a 480P component signal from my DVD player, it would up-convert it to 1080. Is this correct? If not, then I need to buy an up-converter DVD player. Which one would you recommend that works well with LVM-42W2?

The display resolution of the TV is 1920 x 1080 which means that physically there are 1920 x 1080 pixels. Although the TV does some conversion to display lower resolutions, it by no means does the more technical and advanced processing that "Up-Converting" DVD players do. However, this does not mean that a standard DVD will now look HD. On the contrary, it will still look crappy when compared to HD but not as crappy as on a regular DVD player. The only way to truely watch digital media in HD is with the new HD-DVD or Blu-Ray players which are still in the infant stages.

Don't get this thread closed by talking about price. I am keeping an eye on BB everyday to see if the sale comes back. I am thinking I will be out of luck After stewing over the purchase I have decided to buy this set if the price comes back down.

On a side note I did a store locator from the Westinghouse site and it does not show any BB in my area. Could it be that BB will not be carrying Westinghouse?

have been testing out the harmony remote for this set and don't see a one button solution to get to hdmi or dvi2, component2. is this possible?

I am about to pull the trigger on a DVD Upconverting player but don't know which one will work best with the Westy 42. I like the Sony S75H because of all the good reports on the picture. I like the Samsung because it does 1080P and have some good special features. Which one works best with the Wesy 42??? Need some help.

The Oppo Digital OPDV971H and Panasonic DVD S77/97 are rated as some of the top upconverting players.

After reading all about this, I ordered it online from Crutchfield, the price dropped since then so I called and it was shipping today, they are going to drop my price also. Hoping I dont have any problems with it. I saw it a BB, but of course they were out of them.

This should be easy. I havn't setup my 880 for the panel yet but I will. You have to go into the advance setup on the website but you should be able to customize just about any button as a direct input.

I tried plugging in my motorola 6412 phase 3 cable box hdmi into the westys DVI1 input. I got a pinkish purple coloring on the screen with the cable covered in this crap. Same when I plugged it in the DVI2. My HDMI to HDMI works fine but I would like to use the DVI for either my cable or sony S75H. I don't have the DVD player yet would it still do this on the S75H. Any thoughts or suggestions.

I just got my 1.16 firmware Westy. Looks good to me.

I just went to Best Buy to add the 4-year warranty. The guy tried to charge me $249 saying "the warranty goes off the retail price" - yeah right! After I called his bluff he charged me the lower $159 price.

I noticed that the 42" Westy connected to the HD-DVD player has been replaced by a $3299 Samsung 40" 1080p LCD. I asked one of the guys in the TV department if they still have the 42" Westy and he said "no" - I didn't ask for an explination, however.

Since I'm moving, I had my delivery date for my westy changed to late July - should I call Best Buy and reschedule delivery to as soon as possible? If they discontinue this item I'm worried they will give all of them away and end up cancelling my order.

check out Oppo Digital. There is a great thread on AVS Forum dedicated to their DVD Players. the OPDV971H in particular. I ordered direct from Oppo Digital. Sorry, I am a newbie...don't know how to do the "linky" thang. Haven't had a chance to check out the player as I am still waiting on shipping on the Westy.

Does anyone know where to buy Westinghouse (B&M, Crutchfield is too rich for my blood) besides BB? I am moving in 2 months to Cali, so I didn't want to buy this set (or the 47") until I'm settled in.

From what everyone's saying, it sounds like by the time I move, BB won't be stocking either. Also, does anyone have any info on when Westy is planning on releasing the 47"?

Wish it is that easy! I have a Harmony 676, problem is the Westinghouse does not have (or released) any discrete codes that allows us to go direct to the Component1,2 or HDMI, DVI1 or DVI2 inputs without having to cycle through.

so, after reading half of the opinions and reviews (about 100 or so pages) with the search and just reading everything...the general consensus is that this is a great LCD monitor, but be prepared to deal with certain problems?

Seems Best Buy is not the way to go anymore...I checked out Crutchfield, and may go with them.

Has anyone actually tried to run thier pc on this screen for functions other than gaming? I'm looking to do some browsing, but it looks like with the great resolution, it may be too small fo me to use...

My only other question, as i have to travel a ways to get ot a store where i can view this myself is the viewing angle. I saw some of the pics and it looks ok..I just have a 16x10 room that i'd like to pop this on the 16' wall and make sure everyone can view this without complaining...

yup, bestbuy emeryville, no more westy 42 display with tosh hd-dvd. they had the tosh hooked up to a small samsung which looked really b a d!!

asked the salesguy and he just said they will no longer carry it. discontinued.

Better than the way sceptre does it. u have 2 buttons to cycle through. all Digital outputs are on 1 button and the analog ones on another.

As for them getting pulled, prepare for total westinghouse assimulation into Toshiba muahaha

I just pulled the trigger at crutchfield got a good deal plus a good mail in rebate. Should be getting it in the next week or so. Got tired of waiting on best buy. Crutchfield is known for great service but high prices but their list is the same as BB right now.

Been waiting for this TV over 6 months and am glad to pull the trigger finally.
