I have 6 hooked up to an Onkyo TX-sr706 stereo. I have had the speakers for about 2 years so they have had a lot of time to break in. When I bought em I got em for 60 bucks a pair then, matched them up with a velodyne vrp-12 and with old pioneer stereo sounded pretty good. When I upgraded to the onkyo, They now sound phenomenal! Audyssey seems to have really woke these things up. Blu Ray movies sound astounding!

lol, wait til you upgrade the speakers. I have Insignias, and I consider them the best bang for your buck audio gear, but trust me, speakers make the most difference. Well, aside from room treatment.

I am in the process of buying a house... but when that is done then yes I am going to upgrade my speakers to something much better. I have been piecing my theater together piece by piece. These speakers I purchased with the intent of eventually moving them to other rooms... offices places where they will make people happy, but not needing something high grade.

Does anybody know if putting a felt ring around the tweeters will help smooth the tweeters' response?

I would try it but I don't have any measurement equipment.

Yes that is possible. It might also improve imaging. Some speakers use a thin rectangular felt(?) piece next to the tweeter rather than a ring for this purpose. I think good quality wool carpet padding would be better than the synthetic felt that is normally sold as felt. True wool felt might be best.

As for the Insignia $50 Speakers discussed in this thread, I went to BB and listened to them. I thought they were almost twice as good as a $25 pair speakers but, not quite.
