I Want a Quality 42" LCD/Plasma- Limited Budget??

I had another thread regarding this and it went into internet limbo, My wife and I are looking for a 42" LCD/Plasma tv to replace our 52" rear projection sony. I've seen a few at Best Buy and Circuit city, and I don't know if I should trust my eyes at the store or not. I saw an LG that looked great but read some folks input here that it's one to be avoided, and there was a westinghouse that looked great, but can't find much info on it.
My wife is dead set against spending much more than 2000, and I sort of am too. So if anyone has any experience with this type of TV, I am all ears and I appreciate all the help I've gotten here. Thank you.

I saw the Hitach 42s model at CC for that price and was very impressed. It's last years model but comes with two HDMI's and a motorized table top stand.

I would advise you to have a look at the NEC EDTV either 42VR5 or the 42VM5., which you can check out with the forum sponsors :)

These two excellent plasma will be under 2000 with shipping included and a 3 year In-Home Extended warranty.

Many people fail to budget for the Shipping and Extended Warranty, when they set their spending limit for a PlasmaTV :eek:

The Westinghouse 42 inch 1080P LCd is currently a steal, you can get it for the price your looking for online

Believe I would be careful about the Westinghouse. Just my personal opinion based on what I have been reading.

The Sammy HP-S4253 can be found for under your price target (including shipping) from a few online dealers. That is what I leaning towards myself, but I have not pulled the trigger yet.

I've convinced myself to get the 42" Westinghouse, it's really gotten great reviews everyplace I've seen. Very few poor ones. Adb, why be cautious? I haven't seen any glaring bad reviews.

Honestly I would say that the Hitachi sounds real good at that price, as does the Samsung. I saw them both at a cc and they were quite nice. Seem to be a bit higher quality than Westy. Recommend that you check them out against the Westy before you buy. Can't hurt!

how about the Samsung LN-S4051D ?

I have a Westie 42 and it's an incredible TV. No Regrets. If you get Firmware that's below 1.19 you will have lockups. This can be corrected by a firmware upgrade. It seems though the 1.19 firmware is already out in stores so there is chance you may get it.

Try to go to a smaller TV/Electronics shop other than BB and CC. They can often beat the large chains prices. I got my 42hp66 for a very low price. It can probably be had for your budget contraints. Mine was like $700(CDN) cheaper than the Panasonic 42xp60u and the PQ is excellent. I think the LG 42PC3D is good but and should be around the same place(uses the same glass as the 42hp66 but I prefer the Toshiba brand).... where you buy is just as important as what you buy. There should be a lot of smaller authorized dealers that can beat the big box stores in prices and service.

Thanks, it looks like we sold our rear projection, so just a few weeks away from the 1080p.. Can't wait. Thanks again for the input.
