Can I transport an LCD TV on its side???  

I'm not sure what you mean by "on it's side". If you mean laying it down, I would transport it upright if possible.

I also, would not transport it that way. I think the problem is that the glass will be prone to breaking while lying horizontally. A big bump in the road could cause damage to the glass.

Remember that these things are often sold over the Internet, and spend days banging along in UPS trucks with a zillion other boxes. I have to believe that some of them end up traveling on their sides, and I would think the people who designed the packaging kept this in mind. Otherwise wouldn't we be hearing all sorts of complaints about LCD TVs arriving at people's homes cracked?

Of course maybe this is a big problem, and I'm just not aware of it.

I've seen lots of flatpanels stored on their sides, and they come out okay. I'd say if you're careful and it's well packed, it'd be fine. But it's probably best to transport it upright.

Actually, what does it say on the box?

if it is 2 inches short in box, you may be able to get it into the car upright out of the box. however, there really isn't any technical reason why you can't transport an LCD on its back. if you had to, i would double check the markings on the box to make sure it is face up, lay it on blankets or something, and tie it down if possible.

Transported mine on its side (Sharp 37") from Delaware - no problem. Dealer helped place it in the hatchback. Your car's suspension/shocks should dampen accelerations that could hurt it. I wouldn't off-road it or seek out major potholes, though :D :D .

should be no big deal. have seen it done many times.
