The LT-40FN97 is black like the picture on the Jvc site and so is the LT-46FN97 (both look exactly just like the X887 or FH96). The price difference between the FN97 and FH97 is attributed to the gold RCA connectrors, the RS232c and new trim black with silver bezel on the FH97.
The PQ on the LT-40FN97 is as good as the FH96 and yes it does accept 1080P. specs are the same as LT-40X887 plus the one posted on TapeWorks Texas. My overall PQ impression of the FN97 is that it looked similar to the 40X887 only with 1920*1080 resolution. Now compared to the FH96, they are neck to neck maybe the FN97 edging the FH96. On a scale of 1-10 @1080i signal, FH96=9.8 the FN97=9.9, X887/787=9.9. Signal @720P, FH96=9.8, FN97=9.8, X887=9.8.
Sadly though, the old menu has not been changed so if you can live with it.....?
In conclussion, if you have your FH96 or X887 and can live without full 1080P resolution, then its excellent as far as PQ especialy compared to other manufacturers. Both Jvc sets match up evenly as far as viewing experience since you would be hard pressed to think 1080i looks better than 720P or vise versa (NOT ON A 40"). But if 1080P is your dose, then the FN97/FH97 is the way to go or if looks are something too go FH97. Blue ray 1080P or any true 1080P signal is no 1080i or 720P, it literary looks double the resolution PERIOD..........seen it.
