About to buy my first LCD TV :)

Hi all.

I've been researching LCD TVs for the past few weeks, and I'm about ready to fudge up the funds.

I don't have HD service but am trying to figure out a way to get it at school in the fall. Where I live, there are at most 2 HD channels that I can get with an antenna. I'll be using it for SD TV, video games, possibly sometimes as a PC screen and for the occasional movie. My budget is between $1200-$1500, obviously I'd like to spend as little as possible, but if it's worth it...

Anyways, I stopped by a few stores yesterday and I really liked the Philips 32PF7421D. A few others I'm considering are the HP LC3260N and the LG 32LC2D, though one friend who works at Best Buy said he sees a lot of HPs getting returned.

I'm also considering getting a service plan...

Thoughts/suggestions on any of this?

sony and sharp seem to get good reviews, and they do have good picture quality(to my eyes)
more expensive panels may have faster pixel response time, more settings for the picture, and better processing.
extended warranty's can be good piece of mind, make sure you know what's covered.
my lcd was the least expensive for it's size, it's also a new brand, picture quality was almost as good as those costing $900 more.
so I thought it wise to get the extended warranty.

Check out the Sony KDF E 42A10 --- 42" of HD goodness and it's in your price range. That is, if you buy it at a retailer that thinks it gives you the best buy around. ;)

Thanks, guys!

I ended up going with the Philips. After fooling around with it in the store it seemed the picture quality was better than all but the Samsung (which was out of my price range).

So far, I really like it. I've only used it with SD TV and my PS2 via Component, both look great. I'm hoping to get HDTV and some more cables later in the week for some higher res stuffs.

I got a good deal on the TV and saved enough so that the 4 year extended warranty cost me nothing compared to the original price of the TV.
